I agree about some of the characterisations Dragon, Joseph Fiennes is very good as Southgate, capturing his tics and mannerisms perfectly. The guy playing Kane is good too. Not so sure about the Rooney character, looks more like a male model, bet Shrek was pleased about that
Some poetic licence has of course been used, being a drama and all that. For instance, the role of the female psychologist woman in the team's "success" is rather overplayed, but no surprise given that this is the BBC after all and we all know what one of their main agendas is these days
But if we see past the "wokier" elements it is still watchable and certainly better than most of the dross on the box at the moment.

Saw it twice at the National Theatre; once with Fiennes and the updated version with the new guy.
Did capture the spirit of the nation in those long summer tournaments of 2018-2020 (and the lesser ones in Qatar and Germany)
It's not highbrow theatre, but was really enjoyable. Recommended to any football fan, if it tours again.
Haven't seen the BBC production yet, but will get round to watching it.
