Surprised

Barcelona have agreed a deal worth more than £69m with Newcastle United for England forward Anthony Gordon.

BBC Sport previously reported the clubs were in advanced talks as they looked to agree a fee.

These had been described as positive and a deal has now been struck worth in excess of 80m euros (£69.3m).

Gordon will now finalise the formalities of his move before he flies out with his England team-mates to the United States for a training camp before the World Cup.

Bayern Munich also held formal discussions with Newcastle, but there was a gap in valuation between the two clubs and it was Barca who ended up making an acceptable bi

So that means Rashford's leaving? as they play the same position.

This has Coutinho to Barca vibes to it, or Griezmann either. Doesn't seem that good.

Bit overpriced really but you don't get much for £69m in today's football world .

I believe the toffees had a sell on clause inserted when AG signed for the Toon , 15% of any future transfer profit Cool

Sale of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona provides Newcastle United with a massive, immediate boost for their Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) balance sheet.

1. How the Accounting Profit is Calculated
In the world of PSR, player purchases and player sales are treated completely differently on a club's balance sheet:

The Book Value: When Newcastle bought Gordon for £40 million in January 2023 on a 5.5-year contract, that expense was amortised (spread out) at roughly £7.27 million per year.
By May 2026, he had been at the club for roughly 3.5 years, meaning his remaining "book value" on the balance sheet had dropped to roughly £14.5 million.

The Sale Value: When a player is sold, the entire guaranteed transfer fee is booked immediately in the current financial year.

The PSR Profit: Because Newcastle sold him for an initial £69.3 million (€80 million), the accounting profit registered for PSR this financial year is the sale price minus the remaining book value.

This means Newcastle registers a staggering PSR profit of roughly £54.8 million (minus Everton's £4.4 million sell-on slice).

It's monopoly money, innit

Not for me. Never really rated him too highly. Pretty at times but his end product is poor. Newcastle won't be missing much and can improve on him.

Said the same several seasons back. Hasn't pushed on for me. I'm astounded that Barcelona want him.

Report CLYDEBANK29 May 28, 2026 11:35 AM BST
I'm really not a fan of Rashford.  Without the ball he falls asleep and is a liability.  He is the worst top player I've ever noticed in this respect.  A Rashford lapse could quite easily see England out of the WC.  Gordon is a tireless runner and worker.  At pressing, and working for the team he's miles ahead.  With the ball I think Rashford is marginally better.

I'm not sure Gordon does that much tracking back, most
of his ball winning is done in the high press.

He doesn't not track back, but that's not his strength, for me.

He's very quick, especially rapid acceleration, hits top
speed and away, but when at top speed there's not
many catching him.

And his energy is good, so makes loads of forward runs
and loads of pressures.

When he played with isak, it gave isak so much space because
of gordons runs.

When isak was tired after 70 mins, Gordon is still
making runs...

The problem is (for me) yhtl... as nippy as he might be, he doesn't do a lot with it. As a "forward" he's not exactly high on the goals/assists is he? There are many players with higher goals and assists that are not getting the adulation he is. Can't work it out myself.
Report Bish Bosher May 28, 2026 7:43 PM BST
On a slightly different note; I read Duncan Fergusons autobiography last year and Anthony Gordon who was a keen boxer in his youth beat the living daylights out of Big Dunc when he challenged him to a boxing match. Theatrical dives yes but if he can chin Big Dunc he must be quite hard

Not sure Liverpool were actually in for him this summer. Soundings are that it's the right wing that's the priority. They don't want to spend too much on the left cos they see Ngumoha as a future player there. The club certainly rate him though, but not sure they were ever in for him fully.

He has had 1 good season at Newcastle. When he joined I thought he would be great and hoped after the 23/24 seasion he would kick on but it was downhill from there. He has left Everton on bad terms and was diabolical for Newcastle this year. In the CL he got 6 of his goals against Championship level teams and a boatload of penalties ffs. When he is in the mood will run his socks off defensively but going forward I found him limited. His link up play was very average and a bit of a headless chicken most of the time. I wondered this year would he actually be better suited playing in a kind of left wing back position so he would have more space to run into etc...

His attitude is seriously questionable and he seems to think alot of himself. Never forgot him throwing a strop at Howe after being subbed off against Brentford away in his first season. Not a team player imho
