Bolivia didn't win an away WC qualifier between 1993 and 2014, the longest streak ever. Their record away from their altitude advantage is appalling.

Italy are the highest ranked side not to have made the World cup to they could easily make that case, think Nigeria are second highest ranked side not to make it, whilst they have a huge population, don't think they'd be profitable to FIFA.

Their rules state it would be “A nominated alternate, often the direct runner-up from the relevant qualifying playoff or highest-ranked non-qualified team from that confederation.”

That would mean UAE who finished behind Iran, you'd think FIFA would go for the country that would provide the highest broadcasting fees, which in theory would probably be UAE being oil rich, but Infantino is Italian (Swiss/Italian) and would no doubt lobby Italy for being the highest rank, whilst fattening out his argument citing Italy's history in the World Cup. The huge population of Italians over in America might count for something as well, more tickets being bought etc

8 teams, highest ranked from each confederation.

Doesn't seem right South America has 60% of teams guaranteed to qualify from automatic spots, Europe less than 30%, Africa and Asia 17-18%.

Germany, Spain, Portugal and Holland only won their groups by 3 points and could easily have ended up in the play offs in one off games, Italy lumbered in with Peak Norway.

UEFA have the power, if their were no European teams at a World Cup it wouldn't go ahead as it'd carry no weight without the European teams, they should demand more places otherwise they'll pull out and have a European cup in it's place instead.

7 of the top 10 teams in the FIFA rankings are European, 11 of the top 20. Only 4 of the top 20 in the rankings are South American sides.

The italy bets are weird. I've taken about as many as I can afford. Rules clearly state they wont be the replacement as its a different federation. Also how can a team that get knocked out then play in the competition. Imagine the uproar if they won !

Why havent 6 countries not been removed from the market , I doubt Iran will pull out as surely they would face a long ban if they did .

Of course they can Mr Ed.  Iraq qualified through the International Play Offs, not directly through the AFC.  That'll be all FIFA need to promote either UAE, Bolivia or Italy.  And FIFA will act in their own political and financial interests in that regard, whatever that may be.  Unless FIFA themselves come up with an unequivocal statement all bets are on.  Might even be a play-off which would be close to a bye for Italy.  This is the FIFA that invented and awarded Trump a peace prize.  You really think they have any integrity!
