Saka is worth 300k a week. He creates a lot more than his numbers suggest, despite the way Arsenal play. This season the manager has him holding width with Timber underlapping him inside instead of the other way around. Baffling. Should be playing Ben White behind him in at least half the games (if fit). Timber is woeful going forward.

Nowhere near the standard of Henri and Bergkamp .Good player though .

Ozil and Auba were on 350k a week. Havertz is on 280k and is horizontal 90% of the time. Jesus on 250k.

The fact that such average players as highlighted by lurka are/were on astronomical wages merely underlines my earlier point.

The EPL serves up pretty average fare most weeks and is not worth the money that many fans fork out to watch it.
I stopped paying to watch top flight games years ago out of principle once prices rocketed along with player wages.

Arsenal weren't in the CL when those 2 were on 350k either. They've made €300m+ from the CL alone this year + the last 2 years. A lot more than back then from the high PL finishes too and tons more commercially.

To be fair you had to pay more to get those players to state intent
to get where you are today.

It's a difficult one, but once a club sets those levels
for pay then it's difficult to retain staff without paying
top rates to current guys.

About 3k a week would be very good money for Saka's skill and training.
But the Premier League is a television product that earns big money for the product.
The product is worth a lot as a advertising vehicle for gambling and sports goods into their target audience.
To keep the audience they overpay the actors to retain them.

300,000K per week for someone who seems to limp off the pitch in every second game he plays (and don't even think about the ones he misses) doesn't seem like good value to me.

Yes, the amounts are huge but players only get paid what their clubs deem they are worth in a free market.
Bear in mind, AFC generated over £600m in revenue last year - I'm sure their players were largely responsible for that.

Another game where Saka did nothing according to people who rely on stats after the fact and don't use their eyes. He doesn't get an assist for the first goal because it flicked off a Spurs player's foot before going to Eze. Therefore he did nothing in the game. His involvement in Eze's 2nd counts for nothing on the stats too.

Also created a good few of the OGs scored by Arsenal this season, doesn't get assists for those either.

Arteta allowed him to come in off the line a lot more yesterday and progressed the ball more thru the centre and inside, hence Eze and Gyok flourishing. Hopefully that will continue but it was more down to Spurs playing 3 CHs I suspect and no other team will be as woeful as Spurs were yesterday.

I'm presuming you are referring to the 23/24 accounts, where despite a revenue of £616m the club made an overall LOSS of £17.7m.

The club has over 500 full time staff and needs 3,000 staff on matchdays (according to their own figures).

The current CEO of one of my old companies, Aviva, has an annual package of just over £7m. Very generous most may think but they oversee a company which had an annual revenue of over £22 BILLION in 2024.   Which rather puts Saka's "worth" in to perspective imo.

Yes the wages are of course silly but that is the economic reality of football - as it currently stands.

Correct Nobby. I stopped doing so years ago once player wages really started to get out of hand.

The top clubs dont care about the long standing english based fans , they know they can fill their stadium with tourists etc who will spend thousands in the club shop , look at the crowds now they are full of tourists filming with their phone not even watching the match

No they certainly are not machines wes, the standard of the EPL is pretty average. Which is why so many of us are dismayed at how much they are paid.

Fans have only really questioned players pay since the cost of admission, merchandise etc shot through the roof.
Johnny Haynes may have got 100 quid a week but the average player was on about 25 quid a week, not massive compared to the average uk wage then of 15/16 quid a week.
