Mr Strawman, thanks for that correction, as I said I hadn't googled, just something I remembered, or so I thought, from my youth
Dixie, I knew both Keith and Gavin a little bit, a great family Also, to do with Charlton, I believe the Valley had the biggest single terrace capacity in the UK, if not Europe...the side opposite the Main stand, was huge, all terraced, no seats, must have held about 40k at a guess |

After the Gills, Keith moved along the Medway Valley to manage Maidstone during their somewhat brief stay in the football league.
Nearly got them promoted but they lost in the play off semi final v Cambridge when they were in front late on before a certain Dion Dublin got two late goals for Cambridge. The next season they were going well before hitting a poor run and KP was sacked, much to the annoyance of many fans. He was replaced by Alan Carr's dad  who got sacked himself less than a year later as the club spiralled in to obscurity as a result of financial mismanagement and they eventually went in to liquidation at the start of the next season  . |

Yes Dixie, I knew Graham Carr when he was manager at Weymouth and Nuneaton
He also played for Dartford as a real tough defender...you wouldn't think his son was Alan Carr...!!! |

Did Chris Balderstone play for Carlisle United in Division 1 (top league) in 1974 and play Cricket for Leicestershire?
Its hard to imagine Carlisle in the Premier league today. |

not only were they in the top division they were top for a few weeks. oldham were actually in the premier league ,fa cup semi finals and a league cup final |

Dixie it was a stat probably from 15+ yrs ago around the time everyone was doing a 6 team acca with EPL top 4 + celtic,rangers and was highlighted in racing post as to what bad value 28,s to 33,s was for that bet at that particular time ,obviously the more competitive the LG the more chance of it happening

analyst - i have good reason to remember Carlisle in the top flight that season as Everton somehow managed to lose home and away against them. Had the toffees won those games they would have been champions
 Carlisle eventually finished bottom of the table.Chris Balderstone joined Doncaster the next season and created a bit of history, he was in the middle of a Championship game for Leicestershire v Derbyshire and was not out at close of play on day 2, dashed off to play for rovers against Brentford, then back for Day 3 of the cricket where he then completed his century ! He then took 3 wickets and Leicester won the game and with it the county championship. An excellent all round sportsman, he became an umpire after his playing days were over. Sadly died at the age of just 59. 1tp - i don't doubt that the bet is bad value overall, but cannot believe such a low number of games panned out that way. As an Everton fan i can remember two games i was at in 1994 and 1995 where we were losing HT and won FT - the famous Wimbledon game on the last day of the season, 2-1 down at HT, won 3-2 and March 95, away at QPR, 1-0 down at HT, again won 3-2. And that's just my club, there must be many more examples. |

Would be interested how often the supposed big teams are losing at half time and win at full time. The likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid,Celtic, Rangers and united when fergie was manager. If you backed them blindly would only need them to do it twice a season to eek out a small profit.
Years ago thought about doing it with Rangers and Celtic every week in a small double 25-1 and 25-1 equals a 675-1 double, would be like buying a lottery ticket I know but a fun bet with potential decent pick up. With them normally kicking off at different times could play them on the exchange potentially getting a slightly bigger price. |
