Blimey, Guessand has been bang average for Villa, and that's being kind. Palace are falling fast. They do look the third worst team in the PL as things stand. Next 4 games crucial for them, including home matches against Burnley and Wolves.

Because they have 90 minutes, and have more than one task.
If a team parks the bus it helps remove risk of a defender being exposed. If defender gets forward in attack and other team get ball they can hit that space quickly. Look at Liverpool second goal yesterday as fine example of full back in press, exposed by quick ball and good running by striker. |

They have 90+ minutes and their prime task is to defend. All that requires is concentration on the basics. Easy.

It’s not about “just” defending, it’s about doing it right when it is required/essential, putting in the effort. The guy can be tired after the game. It’s laziness, mental and physical.

Not possible to run 40 yards in a second to cover somebody running
into the space you leave by attacking as requested by manager. It's a game of creating advantages and overloading space by moving defenders forward is a common tactic. If you lose ball, or over press, you can be countered as by trying to create an overload you have left a vacuum. 2 teams parking the bus will guarantee a 0-0 |
