Can't believe this is back, the very first time you can easily argue it was a powerful, symbolic visual message even though if it would inevitably become quickly forgotten, but whatever effect it did have became incredibly diluted as they insisted on players taking the knee every single week for months on end so it lost it's purpose, and now it's back again for more of the same. It literally does absolutely nothing to prevent racism, even first time round you had black players like Zaha refusing and ex-players like Les Ferdinand calling it a token gesture. People just want to watch football , not pointless kneeling having politics and PR campaigns foisted upon them by the FA and Premier League who are drenched and drowning in fear of losing lucrative sponsorship and broadcasting deals if they're not seen to be doing enough to promote the message.
Low intelligence morons who want to be racist or discriminatory are never going to be the sort of people who will change their pattern of thinking or behaviour just because a load of multi millionaire footballers kneels down for a few seconds on football pitch, it's chocolate teapot stuff.

Would the FA condone a “five second gesture” condemning child grooming and sexual abuse by Asian gangs, which to me is far more important than the stopping of hurting people’s feelings by using inappropriate language? The taking the knee was always OK as long as it was done once, the fact that they kept on and on and on for month on end meant it lost it's effect, they are now bringing it back as their paymasters have requested it.
Keep politics out of the sporting arena. Full stop.
It's a shame the Gammons can't spare 5 seconds to acknowledge that racism hasn't gone away.
If racism is defined by any person, anywhere in the world, making an unpleasant tweet, after a football game watched by 10 million people, then you need to be realistic and accept that racism is never going away and move on.
And if it isn't just about a few people in a milion making internet posts then they should spell out what this racism is that is oppressing them.
If it was only one person then no need to flag it up.

I agree with highlighting racism but only if it has a positive effect, I just don't see how the same optics relayed are going to do that, if someone is of such low intelligence they abuse someone because of their skin colour or make monkey chants etc, then it's much more likely someone close by giving his a wallop will have a much longer lasting impression on him to let him know it's wrong then a 5 second kneeling protest, and let's be honest, being physical with these types is the only kind of language they ever understand. It's use in the PL (which is what NP was talking about and what the entire thread is about) does not predate the death of George Floyd.

The whole point is they simply need something new, this is something old, and something we're all immune too, it just has no effect so is a token gesture, something new should preferably be not something that does not infringes upon a football match, such as ordering every Prem player to go into schools in areas where racism or racist people are more likely to spring from and give talks to kids when they're at that impressionable age.
They're more like to take notice of that than kneeling.
It sort of reminds me of when UEFA used to hand out pathetic paltry fines to clubs in countries like Croatia or Bulgaria when their fans were in their thousands chanting racist slurs at black players, they didn't really care either until time pasted away and they were under more pressure from sponsors to act with heavier sanctions like stadium closures etc otherwise they'd still be handing out small fines.

Taking the knee originated with Colin Kaepernick in 2016. Done during the American national anthem in protest against the lack of attention given to the issues of racial inequality and police brutality in the United States.
While few would argue that the UK has the same racial problems as America we do still have racism in sport, witness Antoine Semenyo being abused just a few weeks ago at Anfield.

Kneeling in prayer has been practiced since the earliest days of both Judaism and Christianity.
