Takes about 5 seconds, not worth worrying about.
|

I agree with my ol' buddy mesmerised here.
Why is this still a thing? The demand for racism far outstrips the supply. |

Another Mr Angry post.
It's a harmless statement that takes a few seconds. Just live and let live. |
|
By:
what are they doing it for?

It's "take the knee" season yet again.

Clear em out, clear em all out.

Agree with author. Always have.

Would the FA condone a “five second gesture” condemning child grooming and sexual abuse by Asian gangs, which to me is far more important than the stopping of hurting people’s feelings by using inappropriate language? Would they condone a “five second gesture” designed to highlight the requirement of the “duty of candour” by professionals to the public, particularly the police who deal with football issues? Would,…………
No, so why reintroduce this pointless political gesture.? |
|
By:
The taking the knee was always OK as long as it was done once, the fact that they kept on and on and on for month on end meant it lost it's effect, they are now bringing it back as their paymasters have requested it.

Keep politics out of the sporting arena. Full stop.
|

It's a shame the Gammons can't spare 5 seconds to acknowledge that racism hasn't gone away.
|
|
By:
If racism is defined by any person, anywhere in the world, making an unpleasant tweet, after a football game watched by 10 million people, then you need to be realistic and accept that racism is never going away and move on.
|
|
By:
And if it isn't just about a few people in a milion making internet posts then they should spell out what this racism is that is oppressing them.
|
|
By:
If it was only one person then no need to flag it up.
Sadly racism is getting worse under the guise of freedom of speech. Keep highlighting racism, keep highlighting it is wrong One day, eh! |
|
By:
I agree with highlighting racism but only if it has a positive effect, I just don't see how the same optics relayed are going to do that, if someone is of such low intelligence they abuse someone because of their skin colour or make monkey chants etc, then it's much more likely someone close by giving his a wallop will have a much longer lasting impression on him to let him know it's wrong then a 5 second kneeling protest, and let's be honest, being physical with these types is the only kind of language they ever understand. Kind Regards.

By:
Indeed.
And the racists hate the kneeling protest. Most folk applauded at sjp, good to see. |
|
By:
Kneeling in support of a man who robbed a pregnant woman at knifepoint just doesnt do it for me.sorry.

I suppose if you are actually thick enough to think
footballers protesting racism is about a guy killed by usa cops, and not about racists like 19 points then hey ho. |
|
By:
Well they never done it before he died.never mind, each to their own.we all can make our own minds up.

Yhtl is the forum th!cko. That word "racist" has lost all its meaning when you throw it around like confetti. And yes, the take a knee thing is a result of career criminal George Floyd's death.
|
|
By:
I'm sure as a forum thicko it's my duty to educate you
that it predates George Floyd by many years. |

It's use in the PL (which is what NP was talking about and what the entire thread is about) does not predate the death of George Floyd.

The whole point is they simply need something new, this is something old, and something we're all immune too, it just has no effect so is a token gesture, something new should preferably be not something that does not infringes upon a football match, such as ordering every Prem player to go into schools in areas where racism or racist people are more likely to spring from and give talks to kids when they're at that impressionable age.
They're more like to take notice of that than kneeling. It sort of reminds me of when UEFA used to hand out pathetic paltry fines to clubs in countries like Croatia or Bulgaria when their fans were in their thousands chanting racist slurs at black players, they didn't really care either until time pasted away and they were under more pressure from sponsors to act with heavier sanctions like stadium closures etc otherwise they'd still be handing out small fines. Kind Regards. |

Taking the knee originated with Colin Kaepernick in 2016. Done during the American national anthem in protest against the lack of attention given to the issues of racial inequality and police brutality in the United States.
While few would argue that the UK has the same racial problems as America we do still have racism in sport, witness Antoine Semenyo being abused just a few weeks ago at Anfield. |
|
By:
I'm sure Colin Kaepernick would be happy to be remembered
but it's way before him too. Martin Luther King Jr. is depicted kneeling in prayer with fellow civil rights activists in a famous 1965 photo from Selma, Alabama, where they were protesting for voting rights. He and others kneeled in prayer before being arrested for parading without a permit. The act is associated with both prayer and non-violent protest against racial injustice, a connection highlighted in contemporary contexts where taking a knee has been used as a symbol of protest |
|
By:
Kneeling in prayer has been practiced since the earliest days of both Judaism and Christianity.
