Dixie, Everton were expected to be doing much better, the handicap indicated they would likely be around 57pts and punters were still backing them, believing they would outperform that.
Moyes looks like delivering low 40s. Having just moved into a huge state of the art stadium are the owners gonna be happy with that

tobermory - I'm not sure how much better you reckon the toffees should have done, you could say the same about a number of teams ( they are just 7 points behind second place !). Judging performance on the basis of pre season handicap odds seems a bit of a bizarre take if i may say so.
They have played both Liverpool and Man city away (both defeats as usual but played ok). Yesterday they were just as good as Spurs in open play but uncharacteristically let in two poor goals from corners, the first goals from set pieces they have conceded this term. The disallowed goal was a game changer, opinion was divided but interestingly in todays paper Mark Halsey was saying it should have been given as a goal due to Vicario having a clear line of vision, he reckons that VAR official Stuart Atwell "just likes getting involved" (not his biggest fan it seems
).
Home draws against Villa and West Ham were frustrating as they had the chances to win both but the absence of a decent goal scorer up front cost them as it has done for some time. It's not Moyes fault that the powers that be could not get a suitable signing in (they don't grow on trees after all). They are creating a lot more chances than they did under Sean D.
The club is in a much better place than it was before Moyes returned but if you really think he is on dodgy ground then surely you have to take the 25s on offer for him to be next to go ?

Moyes puts them out there so sets the mentality. Or should do. Fifteen mins. In and the SL had possession stats at something like 37 v 63. That’s poor at home. It improved a bit as the game went on but not enough for a home side with ambition. And that is my issue with this Everton, a lack of it. I grant you that these stats. can be misleading but work definitely needs done.

There was no dithering this year tobes, Moyes wanted a right back and a striker on top of the decent business that was done with KDB and Jack signing but there simply wasn't the available players. Barry is one for the future but too raw at the moment.
Kenny Tete had all but signed from Fulham but decided to stay put at the last moment. Not much the manager can do in that situation.
The January window will be interesting, there has been talk of a move for Ivan Toney but presumably if he is available there will be much interest from other clubs (spurs for one) so its unlikely to happen.

What was depressing , as an Everton fan ,was that three of the top strikers last season in Seie A , were Moise Keane ,Ademola Lookman and Romelu Lukaku.Would have them all back in a flash.
I'd certainly welcome Lukaku back but Lookman and Kean never looked like cutting it in the EPL, Lookman has only really started scoring in the last year or two in Italy, Kean just did not seem suited to the EPL, 2 goals in 32 games tells a story. He does seem to have got his mojo back in recent times admittedly and could do better here now.
They were near the top of the scoring charts in Italy last year when we had Beto , DCL , Broja and Chermiti to choose from.
Possession stats largely reflect who is in the lead and for how long. Villa Bournemouth United Brentford Spurs all ahead for well over an hour.

Got - Lookman and Kean had plenty of chances for the Blues but like the others you mention couldn't score either ! imo they would still struggle now.
Lurka - agreed, Grealish and Ndiaye in particular would set up so many chances for a Lukaku type (or Toney come to that if he fancies it !).

I'm not missing any of your points Honcho because you haven't really made any, not salient ones anyway. You are basically claiming that the club has not made progress under Moyes but you could not be more wrong. Sean Dyche was sacked halfway through last season when the team had 17 points from 19 games (0.9 points per game).
Since Moyes took over they have taken 42 points from 28 games (1.5 points per game). A huge uptick on what went before and certainly equates to progress being made. And they are playing much better football as well, which will do for me.

Honcho, under Moyes so far Everton would get 57 points over a full season, but with Dyche in charge only 34 points. It's just not true to say progress has not been made.
Anyway, the thread was supposed to be about who was the next manager to go and i was amazed that anyone was suggesting it could be Moyes. As Pereira has now got the tin tack then that's settled.

Ok. Last point from me. Points won by different managers are almost meaningless. My point is where is the ambition? There is not one world class player at the club, other than (arguably) Pickford. There is a sprinkling of international players but very few. How does the club propose to get where it belongs and that is back in Europe challenging the best?
The new stadium has been a great step forward.
Pickford has kept the team afloat in my opinion. Much, much more than that is needed.

Alls we (Everton) need is a decent striker as the current 2 are just not good enough (although Barry needs time).
Agreed Toffeegirl, this is what i have been trying to say above. EFC have the bullets but the lack the gun ! We have creative players now but top strikers are thin on the ground and those that have been available in the transfer market are and have been out of reach financially for the club.
Honcho, the club does have ambition but Rome wasn't built in a day. You have to remember the parlous financial fair play position the club has been in for a number of years and the new owners have to tread carefully. World class players don't come cheap, that's why most clubs in the EPL don't have any ! The new stadium is fantastic but weighed heavily financially. The fans will be more patient now they can see things are heading in the right direction.
