Champions league winners?
When Gerrard was manager? Would have been 1000/1, imo Early to mid 90s, with Gazza, Hateley etc maybe 20s |

Been shown maximum respect by the forumites but just a wild stab that 'the bairn' is a being a tad tongue in cheek here

He knows the club well, so he'll slip back in easily.

Mediocre clubs like Rangers invariably attract mediocre managers.

Know a few Rangers fans sounds like he turned it down due to Kevin Thelwell who's director of football.

Rangers and Celtic.
Kind of reminds me of the biblical parable of the Prodigal Son. A Rich man divides his fortune between his two sons. One (Rangers) goes off and wastes the lot. The other (Celtic) stays at home and does fluck all. The point being the family fortune is not improved by either of them. There has been 40 years since any team outside of the Old Firm were Scottish Champions. In that time the pair of them have seen the finances and reputation of Scottish Football fall off a cliff edge. Rangers have been a basket case of mismanagement since Davy Murray left and Celtic have been an irrelevance in Europe since Martin O'Neill. They are two mediocre sides who are about as attractive to watch as a team fighting relegation in the English Championship. They have brought in on themselves. |

I think Rangers were a basket case when Murray was there he got them liquidated and they had to form a new club and the new club had to apply for entry to the Scottish league.
The real problem at Ibrox is the fans won't admit that's what happened. WATP ![]() |

Rangers and Celtic would both join the EPL in a shot if asked/invited which explains their root problem in a nutshell - a dearth of TV income. It will never happen of course.
Imagine explaining to people thirty years back that Scotland’s top two clubs would be reduced to making short term loan deals to make up their squads. There was a guy who was never off the football phone-ins twenty five years ago roundly criticising David Murray about his financial profligacy in running the Club. He was hounded and harried and ostracised by the fan then would later be proved very right. Scottish football is done, at every level, never to rise again. That is the reality. |

Stevie G is looking like a genius now. Ideal caretaker manager for Liverpool.

If Rangers and Celtic joined the Premier league, their days of winning silverware would be well and truly over.
