Good on him.  Took me a long time to get the prejudiced plank out of my eye and accept what a terrific player he was.  Rooney rates him as the toughest he ever played against, and he played against so many good ones.

I concur that it's good to see Frank and Coventry going well. He always gave it 100 per cent when managing Everton and seemed a decent guy with it. He didn't have a lot of cash to play with in the transfer market but one big mistake was freezing out Doucoure in the weeks before his sacking when results were very poor. Sean Dyche came in, reinstated Doucoure and he was their best outfield player for the rest of the season and of course scored the winner in the last game to keep the toffees up.

I also backed Coventry to go up this season so am a bit biased Wink

Over the years on here I've always noticed that when certain clubs get relegated, it takes their fans from their forum with them, Stoke a prime example, forum was infiltrated and awash with Stoke fans during their prem era, wasn't seen  for dust the second when they fell through the trap door, hopefully that trend doesn't change if Everton finally go down which in turn will mean the quality of the forum goes up, i.e. the new poster Dixie Dean and his ilk clears off back to whichever swamp he recently dragged him out offLaugh

Here's a great stat for you

"The 2025/26 Premier League season is just days away, and whatever happens, it’ll be a historic one for the club as we enter our 100th consecutive top-flight season.

Since we were elected to the old First Division in 1919/20, we have been a fixture in the top tier for a century of campaigns, a feat that no other club in English football history comes close to.

Our current run consists of 4,024 games heading into the season opener against Manchester United, where we could notch win number 1,900 in that time.

Most consecutive seasons in England's top-flight
Team    Seasons    YEARS
Arsenal    100    1919 -
Everton    72    1954 -
Liverpool    64    1962 -
Sunderland    57    1890-1958
Manchester United    51    1975 -
Tottenham Hotspur    48    1978 -
Aston Villa    44    1888 - 1936
Blackburn Rovers    44    1888 - 1936

Cool

Tut tut mes, you (and others) are so suspicious. I have never been banned before as i only joined the forum for the first time six months ago.

Yes i was fully aware of the Gunners proud record and the fact that Everton were commendably second on that list .

However Arsenal still trail the mighty toffees total of over 4,750 games in the all time list of games played in the top flight. Grin

I actually made a long post on this a few month ago to one of the ever bitter spudites on here

mesmerised22 Apr 25 01:01Joined: 10 Nov 10 | Topic/replies: 37,576 | Blogger: mesmerised's blog
Latarps, you and many of your fellow spuds have been incredibly bitter about Arsenal being promoted by hand 106 years ago after World War 1, whilst Arsenal were democratically elected back to the top flight and by some distance, 18 votes to your 8, it was never proven that there was any wrong doing. The argument put forward was that Arsenal as first ever southern league club had a long service to football and deserved to be included.

However, neither Arsenal or Tottenham had any real claim to take that final spot in 1919/20 after WW1 after the expansion of the top league, we had finished 5th in the second tier, you had finished rock bottom in the top tier, so it's laughable spuds make bitter points about this as if we robbed you of a place, you had no business even lobbying to remain in the first place and neither did we have to be included, it should have gone to Barnsley who finished 3rd in the 2nd tier before the war, and the next team in line for automatic promotion, along with Preston and Derby, it's Barnsley who should feel bitter and them who were robbed. Chelsea had a claim to remain in the top tier after finishing 2nd bottom in 1915 because United had fixed a game against them.

If Sir Henry Norris was up to no good, he had some amazing contacts to get 18 different clubs to vote for us and one way or another, it's not you who feels hard done by, it's the Tykes.

Arsenal also didn't do anything that was against the rules in the 30's, they simply identified the best players and got them.

And this whole 'moving onto your turf' thing, when Arsenal moved to North London in 1913 it was because we had no choice, we were in Plumstead, there was fk all there, transport links were poor, still is relatively speaking, ground ran along an open sewer and so as you can imagine, crowds werent the best. We were even close to merging with Fulham and could have ended up there, think our owner owned them as well, how times have changed.

Yet even when we moved to Highbury, which is North London, we didn't actually encroach on your territory, that's because you weren't even in London, you were a Middlesex club, you was not even absorbed into the Greater London area until 52 years later - we were a London club before you were, we were always a London club regardless of which side of the river we were born on. Moving less than 10 miles within the same city is hardly a big deal, not like it's Wimbledon taking themselves out of London placing themselves in Milton Keynes for no apparent reason.

And whilst I'm on a history tour, did you know the reason why we play in Red is because of Nottingham Forest, we signed a couple of their players from Forest and they brought there own, they then called a favour and brought more down as we were brassic, and Sparta Prague play in Red in turn because of us after their president saw us play in London in 1906, the white sleeves came along thanks to Champan who apparently saw someone at the training ground wearing a red sleeveless sweater over a white shirt. And as for the Spuds the current white shirts apparently were a homage to Preston who dominated at over 100  years ago, but you started with a Navy Blue shirt emblazoned with a RED H, then for a six year period between 1890-96 your entire shirt was RED.

Bet you didn't know that. You've learned a few things tonight.

Kind Regards.

Middlesbrough they are doing very well in the championship and at there current odds, look a very good price to trade, can see them 4/1 or less sooner or later, Ipswich have drifted like a barge, the Middlesbrough price should be a lot shorter imo,
So I added them last week to the five fold at 13/2

Payouts 35K are now only 18K at today’s prices

Would like to see Millwall promoted as a London club, one of only 5 clubs in the Championship who've never been in the Prem (Millwall-Bristol City-Preston-Oxford United-Wrexham), they seem to live around 8th in the Champ over the last few years and think they've only ever been in the top flight once, or twice. Surprised a billionaire owner hasn't taken them over given they're a London club with a fairly large catchment area even in a saturated city of many football clubs. Kind Regards.
