don't watch as much golf these days but this has been excellent viewing - shame about how moronic the some of the US crowd are but will make it all the more satisfying of they can get it over the line..

I fancied Europe at 2.7 Thursday night. Unfortunately, I got sidetracked and missed the boat. Still a good watch. American caddies well out of order, not for the first time.

I was thinking the same, but then I watched the docu about Luke Donald and the European team, and saw how cohesive, passionate and determined they were. That changed my mind for me. Still didn't win any money, but thoroughly enjoyed it.

yep, they do seem to play above the sum of their parts in the last 20-30 years ? (defer to golf experts) and the U.S almost the opposite..

The Americans have not played badly, by any means, especially today. It just seems to mean that bit more to the Europeans.

USA usually have advantage of hitting ball further so set up home
course to give them advantage, wide fairways, little rough.

This course doesn't really lend itself to giving that advantage.

Ryder Cup does mean more to Europe, the Yanks are very individualistic thinkers, Europeans are more team minded making team bonding easier and motivation greater, big part of that reason is that Football is the number 1 sport in most European countries and it's the most tribalistic sport in the world, us against them, In America I don't even think it's a top 5 sport, behind American football, Basketball, Baseball, Ice Hockey probably even college football and Boxing, maybe soccerball is on a par with Golf itself. Whilst America has it's own big team sports it's not the same, attention and focus is always centered around the individual stars, the fans have never had an away culture where they follow their teams to the ends of the earth like they do here, let alone have an ultra culture. So it stands to reason when Europeans are playing the Ryder Cup they are going to war, when the Yanks are playing the Ryder Cup they are going to work, hence 'show me the money', I want to get paid for playing with my rivals, I mean my teammates.

Kind Regards.

USA have college golf, which of course now takes most
of the top European talent too. It's team based as
well as individual.

Foursomes, four balls, and singles matchplay are really
three different games, on top of stroke play which is
how the vast majority of golf is formatted. And stroke play
qualifies you for ryder cup.

LIV is trying to bring in team stroke play golf which
is yet another format.

It is possible to excel at all formats but some folk
simply do not.

On top of this Europe have had a lot of players in great form
whereas USA players seem somewhat embarrassed by the
antics of home supporters which has likely distracted them,
and you don't want to be distracted playing golf.

Victory over a foreign adversary especially in one of their most popular sports, golf, means the absolute world to America. Hence all the abuse the European players have had to endure.
