Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.
The deal is worth £130million ($176m) to Newcastle due to solidarity payments and will cost Liverpool £125m. It will set a new Premier League transfer record, surpassing Chelsea’s £106m signing of Enzo Fernandez from Benfica in January 2023. Liverpool’s purchase of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen earlier this summer amounted to a total package of £116m, with an initial fee of £100m and £16m in potential bonuses.
Isak will undergo a medical on Monday before completing his move on a six-year deal.
The Athletic reported earlier on Sunday that talks regarding Isak’s potential Liverpool move were ramping up ahead of the transfer deadline.

Sources close to the deal have told BBC Sport that an agreement for the Sweden international to move to Anfield is now in place. Newcastle sources claim the deal could be worth as much as £130m with add-ons. Isak is expected to undergo a medical on Monday before signing a six-year contract. Liverpool had an original £110m offer rejected in August but are now set to land their first-choice target of the summer. The protracted saga involving the 25-year-old appears set to come to an end on the final day of the summer transfer window, and it follows Newcastle having signed striker Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart last week. Liverpool have already broken their club transfer record this summer by signing Germany attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz in a deal worth an initial £100m, with a further £16m in add-ons. Isak's arrival would top that outlay. After also bringing in Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Armin Pecsi and Giovanni Leoni, the deal would take the club's spending to about £416m without add-on fees. Liverpool could still add to the spree, with the Reds working on a deal to sign England defender Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. Meanwhile, the departures of Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Jarell Quansah, Caoimhin Kelleher, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Tyler Morton and Ben Doak have recouped an initial amount of about £190m. |

Liverpool spent the Coutinho money on two of the greatest of all time in VVD and Allison. Cant believe the Geordies are going to blow the dosh on a 29 year old from Brentford with one year left on his contract and the German Peter Crouch. Throw in Elanga for £60m and they've been absolutely fleeced this summer imo.

Newcastle have done well imho. The negatives for them are only lack of replacement (Still today to get someone in) or even backup for that position. There is the ego element with fans unhappy at him going to an opponent but a mature fans will acknowledge he needed to be shifted and may also have dodged a bullet given he has now shown his personality type after decent output from him and a trophy. Also no guarantee he succeeds there. They have a lot of egos in that forward line now and will be interesting to see how they pan out especially with Wirtz struggling so far.
The top 10 largest transfer fees is in the main a whos who of failures and little value shown. They have gotten a serious wedge of money that will do them the world of good PSR wise in a market where the top spenders are dead. Liverpool imho are the only club willing to spend that sort of cash. Real, Barca, Man Utd, Man City all seem to be pulling back for a variety of reasons. The fee Newcastle have gotten is about the max of the current market. Above this price you are looking at players who shift serious jersey sales/merchandise/marketing which Isak will do for Liverpool fans but not much outside that etc.. Newcastle get a top grade attacker in for half the price and 2 or 3 years younger and expand the squad depth including RW, CB and another attacker who replaces Wilson and another few years in the bank in terms of age.. If Newcastle get another attacker in the door today who is decent (Looks like Wissa is done and dusted), I would punt them for Top 2 at 33/1. Top 4 odds as well look proper value around 4/1 |

Liverpool fans have short memories. When Newcastle were taken over by the Saudis they were the first ones to complain about the blood money. They have now paid 130 million to the Saudis; does that now make them as bad as Newcastle

Be interesting to see how Slot fits them all in and who makes way and whether it upsets the equilibrium, what we know to date as a fact is that Ekitike has started extremely well without Isak.

You may as well of said that he was six weeks closer to 99, what a muppett. By the way, Wissa scored as many goals from open play in the PL last season as Isak did (19), the fee is £50m and some unreachable add ons.Meanwhile, down the road.............. |

The German lad is not a bad player. He isn't the superstar the media were making him out to be during the U21 Euros, but he has ability, scores goals and seems to be hard working. He has quite good feet for a beanpole, as well as aerial prescence. It's a lot of money for a player only proven at U21 and Bundeslige level, but I don't think he will turn out to be a bad investment.
As for Isak, it's beginning to look like Liverpool might not even need him, the other big teams have been so poor. |
