Indeed you might have played walker and Trent as right side of a 5 and might get
best from both of them.

Ok - right side of a five - I’ll take your word.  Personally what I want a right back to do is defend effectively first, second and third, and above all, to keep or get goalside of his opponent as required.
Read the game, complement your defensive mates and make feel secure at all times.
Attacking can wait for when it is required, if at all.

I think the game has moved on from that LH. The game is all about wide players playing on the wrong side and coming in to shoot with their favoured foot.

If you look at Klopp's great team, it was the midfield's job to be auxiliary defenders. They would spread wide and provide a shield to break up attacks as they were starting. This allowed Trent and Robbo to get ahead of them and provide the width that the wingers no longer give.

The game is all about control of the midfield with wingers coming in to find gaps, false nines dragging centre backs around etc. Having a Carragher at right back might well come back into fashion at some point, but the likes of Klopp wouldn't be a fan of it.
