Basically said he's downed tools the last few weeks, been sub par in training, course he has, he knew he was announcing he was about to leave and was apprehensive about the reaction, no need for Slot to give off a different impression as if he was trying to save himself for Madrid trying not to get injured.

Coming out before the very last home game of the season and even mentioning that he wasn't happy with him in training, regardless of when it was, is Slot stirring up the Liverpool fans, why would he even bring this up now, if he plays him on the weekend, he's probably get even more abuse now, that's on him. Heard it reported it was last few weeks but even if it was start of the season that makes it even worse. Kind Regards.

Speaking at his pre-match news conference on Friday, Slot revealed he had to speak to Alexander-Arnold in his office during pre-season because he was not happy with the right-back's work rate.
"It is already a first gift I can give Xabi Alonso but I wasn't completely happy with every single minute how he was on the training ground," said Slot. "In my opinion, in certain moments he could do a bit more, to say it mildly.
"That is what we talked about, combined with that I said to him, 'You are a much better defender than everybody tells you, unfortunately you don't show it all the time' and that is why people sometimes tell you it is a part of your game you need to improve."

The smart play was for TAA, to say nothing about the transfer until the season was finished
