Dembele on the bench. Arsenal have a great chance if they put in a top performance. Not too confident they will but they'll hopefully be more effective with Merino up top to play long to if needed.

Here we go.
Gooners sounding off with Arteta out.
Fluck me, can we have him at SPurs?

The thing about the UCL is it takes a number of goes to win it.
United won the League in 93 and it took 6 years to win it. When the competition was not open to the top4.
Chels took 12 years from 2000 to  2012 to win it. Then landed another one soon after.
City have played UCL every season since 2012 and it took them 11 years.

The modern barometer of success is getting UCL football. If Arteta keeps doing that with this team they will only get better and go closer.
Report lurka May 7, 2025 10:37 PM BST
Arsenal were better than I hoped tonight. Had to take one of those chances in the first 20 mins. Rice should have scored the early one but Donnarumma made 2 excellent saves. Saka's miss for 2-2 on the night and they'd have been worried.

Martinelli - I've never seen an inverted wide attacker go on his weak side (and the defender's strong side) as much. He moves at Grealish pace and then is as fast as Hakimi tracking back? Has a good shot and is a good finisher but never comes inside. Baffling. Must be Arteta telling him to do that because it's just not natural for him.

Arsenal have been cráp at set pieces since last year. PSG are weak at set-pieces but countless corners and long-throws and can't remember them winning the first ball in the air.

Skelly had a generational mare tonight. Kept running into trouble and getting caught in possession and letting high balls bounce trying to hold off the player with his body (which he's normally good at).

Arteta has to focus on the attacking line now and should have plenty to spend too. He's never signed a first choice front 3 man since he joined, apart from Jesus. Merino and Havertz were not signed for that role. Jesus is not good enough and not a good fit for the role. It's quite remarkable that he's managed to challenge for leagues and the CL with these players. But I'd say that what the Inter manager has done in the CL with his players is more impressive. I wouldn't have PSG favs over Inter in the final but it's a one-off game, would fancy Inter more over 2 legs.

means **** all. Paris was comfortable, they always looked like they could turn it on at any moment. Launching balls in the box often causes moments, the result is that over the 2 legs nowt came of any of them.

Arguably Paris had the easier chances to score and wasted them over both legs. 3-1 could've been a lot worse for arsenal. It felt comfortable win for PSG. They had more concerning moments against Villa and Liverpool for whom both won a leg, Arsenal didnt get close to winning either games

Report rothko May 7, 2025 10:44 PM BST
But they’ve had injuries otherwise they would have done the quadruple. Perhaps Arteta should look at their training regime to get so many injuries.
Report lurka May 7, 2025 10:44 PM BST
Yes latarps, Arteta is a young manager still learning his trade and hasn't finished building a squad to challenge on 2 fronts. Every top manager at this level learns from getting schooled by more experienced elite managers in the early days. Pep won it early but got schooled numerous times over the years and changed his tactics and personnel multiple times.

Arsenal had higher xG but that's a lot to do with being behind from the first few of 180 mins. And some of that xG comes from a chance or two that were prob offside and would have been overturned by VAR but are counted for xG because they were missed.

Arsenal gone out in 4 semis in a row.

It's tough in knockout footy if you don't take yer chances,
but getting there is hard enough, and keep knocking on the doors
and one will open. Same in any sport.
Report lurka May 7, 2025 10:58 PM BST
The early goal in the first leg sucked the life out of them and the home fans for about 35 mins. Completely changed the game plan as you have to make sure you don't concede the second. Arsenal never recovered from it. They had the chances to especially early on tonight but weren't good enough to take one.

PSG are not as good as Inter imo. Inter will cause any team trouble and have more balls than Arsenal.

Report BULLET TOOTH TONY May 7, 2025 11:05 PM BST
that's because they have a better manager, who has made them one of best one touch teams in the transition in world football. They break your play down, they're can be at your goal in 3/4 touches. Arteta relies on Set pieces and swarm like press to create chances high up the pitch. Teams get past that press then they can cause Arsenal many problems. PSG should've scored more tonight! At least we dont have to watch a inter v Arsenal Final, that would've been turgid battle of styles.

Agree Inter win the final, because they are the more mature outfit for the big occasion.  PSG would have had a better chance against Barca high line then Inter low block

I am not an Arteta fan but not calling for his head. Let’s see what the  new guy does this summer.

One thing that somebody really needs shooting for is conceding goals from corners with shots from the edge of the box. How many crucial goals like that this season? No point scoring from set pieces if you are conceding from them.

Equally frustrating is a striker mia in the 6 yard box. How many times have crosses gone into the 6 yard box?

I think Arsenal have a good squad that will challenge next season with new recruits but consistently making  the same stupid errors is problematic and does not inspire hope.
Report MJK May 8, 2025 9:02 AM BST
The first legs at Anfield, home to Villa, away to Arsenal PSG are the best in the competition. They look a different team mentally when ahead in the tie into the second leg. Skelly was unlucky with the peno imop but the rest of the game was just like the home leg for him, all he wanted to do was get fouled or pretend to get fouled. Arsenal did their best but it wasn't good enough over the two legs, particularly the onus on set pieces. At least we won't have to see the set piece coach at the final. Honestly, wtf is all that about? Or the horrible Arteta waving his arms about for every single decision.
Report SirNorbertClarke May 8, 2025 10:38 AM BST
Arsenal are more of a highly coached set piece team than a football team. That's why they haven't been arsed about not having a centre forward.

Storm Alert u couldn't be further from the truth, I don't hate Arsenal. I wouldn't want u to go bust, wouldn't want u relegated. Its called rivalry, my favourite games are spurs v arsenal because its the best games. unfortunately the edge has gone out of it because Arteta is footballing terrorist and the most recent games have had the enjoyment coached out of them. I actually think arsenal fans deserve better then Arteta (plenty of my family are Arsenal fans) I find his football philosophy, his manner and behaviour frankly awful
