Quite unbelievable for Bournemouth supporters to comprehend.

From the dark days of the 17 point deduction for going into Administration in 2008.

Meeting at the Winter Gardens with collecting buckets for the "Save the Cherries fund".

Appointing an untried manager in Eddie Howe in 2009.

What followed was a meteoric rise through the divisions.

Here we are now being talked about possible European qualification!

BF have us at 2.1 to finish Top 6.

My heart says 'we can do this', my head says not.

I would be keen to hear the knowledgeable thoughts of the footie forum.

Is this a Back or Lay.

It's a sit back and enjoy the ride.

Playing some lovely stuff.

what a fantastic run they are on. in terms of your question its worth looking at their remaing fixtures.

after playing liverpool next weekend they only have 2 remaining fixtures v the top 6 teams (away to city and arsenal).

The remaining fixtures are 7 home games to teams below them including 3 of the bottom 4 and only 5 away games at Brighton Soton, Spurs west Ham and Palace.

Their home form against lower teams 12th and below is pretty good with 3 wins and 2 draws with no defeats, their away form is even better with 4 wins 1 draw and no defeats.

So based on those stats and providing they dont get many injuried to key players u wd say its a back rather than a lay.
Report CLYDEBANK29 January 26, 2025 1:09 PM GMT
My head says they will do it if they avoid major injuries.  There will very likely be 8 or British teams in Europe for starters, 9 if Spurs or Man U win the Europa League
Report CLYDEBANK29 January 26, 2025 1:13 PM GMT
Considering how well the English teams are doing in Europe, if Spurs don't win the League Cup, and one of the top few win the FA Cup, it's the top 8 in the league into Europe
Report CLYDEBANK29 January 26, 2025 1:17 PM GMT
Arsenal Liverpool Chelsea Man City and then you have Forest Newcastle Bournemouth and Villa to get down to 8.  If Man City are hit with a point deduction could be a top 9 finish.

Many thanks guys for your thoughts, reading Dragons analysis things seem very positive. It makes a change being nervous for this reason rather than previous seasons trying to stay up. Thank you all. Lets hope our run can continue against Liverpool on Saturday.

They have major injuries, it appears to have helped them thus far.

More injuries may cripple them, at intensity they are playing.
Report CLYDEBANK29 January 27, 2025 1:47 PM GMT
They do have a fair few injuries tbf.  Far more than I'd realised.  Clearly helps when you lose two centre forwards that their stand in scores a hattrick.  The players that seem to be getting the plaudits and the big clubs circling. Kerkez Zabarnyi Semenyo seem to be playing every week and you could perhaps add Kluivert to that list.  If they remain fit could be key.  Villa look a bit rocky to me, especially now they've sold Diego Carlos, Torres already out and Mings gets injured the game after.

I have had to have a bit of 4.8 on Saturday, seems quite generous don't you think.
Report The Dragon January 27, 2025 6:52 PM GMT
Hey Easy Rider

Yes given that you have beaten city  arsenal and forest at home and Liverpool are the only top 5 team who have beaten you this season.

Tough game for the reds for sure given you are unbeaten in 11 games. 4.8 is a tad high imvho

It's like a step up psychologically to beat Liverpool, but
they are certainly good enough, if prepared.

Two losses on the bounce, not what we wanted at this stage of the season.

Sky pundit Glenn Murray thought it was a belter of a game, two good teams and could have gone either way, small consolation.

Wolves in cup this weekend, hopefully get back to winning ways before trip to Tottenham the following weekend.

Its all bunching up a bit!

Small matter of getting the better of Man City on Sunday, then it could be on.

Must be in with a shout.

Could be some jostling for the European places tonight.

Newcastle should win, so long as they have got over the partying.

Brighton v Villa tricky one.

Bournemouth and Ipswich both with injuries, but surely Bournemouth should be to strong.

last night's result was a killer and does seem like the injuries they've had are catching up with them.  Still going down to 8th (if Palace don't win the FA Cup, or Villa win the FA Cup and finish outside the top 8)  Always the chance City get deducted points too.  So not over yet.
Report easyrider April 5, 2025 9:28 AM BST
As MC Hammer would say, its "Hammertime". Come on you Cherries.
Report easyrider April 14, 2025 9:29 AM BST
And so we move onto our next Must Win game.
Fulham a good team having a very good season.
We need three points tonight as next game is away to Palace who are also having a good season.

Situation not helped with Ryan Christie now out for the remainder. Semenyo has lost his scoring boots, Klivert fatigued!, Huijsen and Kerkez probably eyeing up big summer moves. Kepa, really a marmite keeper.

Games are running out, need these 3 points.

Come on you Cherries.

Onto Selhurst Park next, hopefully Palaces legs will be heavy after their trip to Newcastle midweek.
Report easyrider April 20, 2025 9:43 AM BST
Played against 10 men whole of second half, credit Palace, but surely we should have managed one.
Just have to hope these European places go down to about tenth at this rate!
Report CLYDEBANK29 April 20, 2025 10:05 AM BST
There could be 10 teams in Europe next season if Manu/Spurs win EL, Palace win the FA Cup, Chelsea finish 7th and win the ECL.  But I think it can only realistically go down to 8th in the league, which it will do if Palace don't win the FA Cup, in which case 8th goes into the ECL.

The race for European places resumes with Chelsea, Brighton and Fulham all having very winnable games.

Cherries are hosting Man Utd on Sunday.

I would hope that a full strength Bournemouth, shall be to strong for what will probably be a mixture of Man Utd first teamers and reserves as Bilbao looms.

Games are running out, need to win.
Report easyrider April 28, 2025 8:31 AM BST
In reply to my original question I would say---Probably Not.
Report easyrider May 2, 2025 8:21 AM BST
With renewed enthusiasm after recent disappointments -- The run in.

Four games to go, minimum two victories needed, probably two and a draw.

Arsenal (A), Villa (H), Man City (A), Leicester (H).

Have to be targeting 3 points at Arsenal.

Evanilson back after red card rescinded, so full strength Cherries line up.

Lets do the double over The Gunners.
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- May 2, 2025 10:59 AM BST
If the FA Cup winners and Newcastle finish in the top seven, the Conference League playoff round place goes to eighth. Fulham (51) are eighth, followed by Brighton & Hove Albion (51), AFC Bournemouth (50), Brentford (49) and Palace (45), so there's every reason for these five clubs to play as though the season is still alive.

With Man City away next week I think we really need 3 points today, as I am sure Villa are thinking the same.

small club mentality, gave their all last week against a big team, lose at home to Villa the following week, it's what I call 'just beat a big team' syndrome, where small teams just can't follow up a big win. If they gave as much effort as they did against Arsenal 7 days ago against everyone they'd be top 5. A lot of players for clubs of the same size always up their level against a glamour club almost as if to get themselves in the shop window, you're at Bournemouth for a reason. Kind Regards.

I am sure Huijsen would love to finish his Cherries career with a win and keep Haaland quiet.

Shame City also need the win, but quietly confident we can pull it off.

If we had been offered that before a ball was kicked, would have bitten your hand off.

Looks as if after the Leicester game we could see the breaking up of Andoni Iraola's team.
