FURY V USYK

Neither of these two are greats imo, despite both being unbeaten before the last fight. There haven't been any great heavyweights for a long time. The fight obvs isn't big in the US either. There used to be some great US heavyweights but they don't seem to produce any greats at any weight any more. That's why HW boxing is in Saudi. They pay $75-80 for PPVs over there.

The last great heavyweight was Lennox Lewis.

In the US a big fight generates much more in revenue because of the PPV price over there and the size of the market, but the fighters get a lot more from the Saudis. The Saudis obvs aren't looking to make money on it. So maybe a trilogy isn't a shoe-in for financial reasons (for them).

But for the fighters and their promoters, it definitely is. Their last chance to milk the Saudis unless Fury wins and then they get another. Prob won't get a payday like this again after either. This time it's a reported $190m purse with a 55-45 split in Usyk's favour.

But you called the score precisely - nicely done as all the judges agreed.

One thing people think scores a lot is being aggressive, ie coming forward. That scores in MMA but in boxing it has to be EFFECTIVE aggression. If you are getting countered with better punches landing against you the opponent scores. There were a good few rounds like that for Usyk.

Katie Taylor wins fight like this too. Girls coming in with windmill punches and not landing many, while she lands better punches on the counter.

Giving rounds when punches only landed on gloves

The scoring should be live. There are fighters and corners who think they're ahead going into the final few and 1/3 judges will agree but the others don't. They have that in amateur boxing.

Most boxers/pundits don't even understand the scoring. It's totally unclear tho.

A 10-10 is not against the rules, but judges get marked down if they do it more than once in a blue moon

Fury is past his best but still doesn't seem to be in as absolute tip top shape as he could be for a fight like this.
Wouldn't be surprised if Usyk is doped either. Has power punches and stamina in the later rounds. He's not a great boxer.

10 pt must means at least 1 fighter has to have 10, but you can still have 10-10

Fury needed to damage him a lot more in the earlier rounds so Usyk was a different fighter in the later rounds. Same in the first fight. He was always going to fade when Usyk comes strong. Just winning the earlier rounds was not a good tactic in either fight.

Usyk one of the greatest ever is laughable.

Usyk is a Great Cruiser weight.. Probably the best heavy weight around atm.. Dubois wont trouble him, if and when.

Dubois' has already beaten him!

For me, Fury didnt do enough to take Usyk's titles. I remember Cooper v Bugner !

Turki had AI scoring the fight and it had it as 118-112 Usyk

You can have a 10-8 fight without a KD but it's nearly always with a KD and judges use 'severity' of KD to finalise their score.
You can have a 10-7 round which usually means a boxer's been totally dominant with several KD's

the criteria for winning rounds made it obvious Usyke should have been given the fight, cleaner shots landed, controlled the pace of the fight more and was hit less.

Boxing is a laughing stock when it comes to judging fights.
Surely there must be tech as well as eyesight to count the number of punches that land, hurtful punches etc.
This antiquated scoring system is too subjective, open to corruption, isn't transparent & needs to go!

Now all the big fights are in Saudi, they really should just fight to the death.

Boxing has been mediocre ever since they went to 12 rounds from 15.

Debatable whether Dubois was a low blow under the rules. It probably was, but Usyk's belt was at his belly button, he'd been hit hard before that and he took a break for a few mins while he was shook, holding his bálls. It was nowhere near his bálls.

Boxing doesn't have a world governing body like other sports. It has been run by promoters/dodgy money for decades.

How could anyone score that Fury by 6? Good god, I don't usually have the comm on but did (tnt) and they were confidently bigging up Fury when it looked like nowt of the sort to me, most ringsiders and then the judges! A very very long way from the worst decision ever.

Anyone who paid for that fight needs to give their head a wobble
