Alan Hansen is "seriously ill in hospital" according to former club Liverpool.
A statement from the Premier League side read: "The thoughts and support of everyone at Liverpool FC are with our legendary former captain Alan Hansen, who is currently seriously ill in hospital.
"The club is currently in contact with Alan's family to provide our support at this difficult time, and our thoughts, wishes and hopes are with Alan and all of the Hansen family.
"We will provide any further updates as we receive them in due course, and we request that the Hansen family's privacy is respected at this time."

Good to hear indeed. Hospital is never a place to be. Why are youngish retired footballers in hospitals before their time these days? Anything to do with the sudden life changes and trappings of wealth?

I'm just a little younger. I think 69 is still too young to be hospitalised for a few days unless it was an injury sustained that was not health related. There had been quite a few recently.

Still don't think it's THAT unusual. No idea what was wrong with Jocky, no idea if he's been leading a bad lifestyle or not or whether it was hereditary. Feels like he's recovered very well though to be at death's door to leaving hospital within a couple of weeks so hopefully he's got a long time left. Sort of knew him back in the day as my dad was his regular cabbie to take him back to Southport (Graeme Sharp was a regular too). Lovely fella. Tipped well.

my grandad died from liver disease before he was 50 and he was teetotal, nowadays (young) people are getting it for any number of reasons, often linked to lifestyle but not necessarily.
