Alan Hansen is "seriously ill in hospital" according to former club Liverpool.

A statement from the Premier League side read: "The thoughts and support of everyone at Liverpool FC are with our legendary former captain Alan Hansen, who is currently seriously ill in hospital.

"The club is currently in contact with Alan's family to provide our support at this difficult time, and our thoughts, wishes and hopes are with Alan and all of the Hansen family.

"We will provide any further updates as we receive them in due course, and we request that the Hansen family's privacy is respected at this time."

A Rolls Royce of a centre half, always remember the story when talking about him and Lawrenson as a pair together where at the end of the game Lawrenson would be covered in mud and Hansen wouldn't have a mark on him.CoolCool

Wasn't it a couple of days ago Kevin Campbell was seriously ill in hospital?

Not gospel but a guy who plays golf with him says it's cirrhosis or similar.

A rolls royce indeed and looking back probably even better well ahead of his time he was a truly majestic footballer in his pomp all class.

Good to hear indeed. Hospital is never a place to be. Why are youngish retired footballers in hospitals before their time these days? Anything to do with the sudden life changes and trappings of wealth?

Is 69 really that young for being in hospital?
By:

When: 24 Jun 24 17:10
As a 67 year old, I say yes it is a very young age for an extended stay in hospital.
By:

I'm just a little younger. I think 69 is still too young to be hospitalised for a few days unless it was an injury sustained that was not health related. There had been quite a few recently.

Quite a few recently? Really?

Still don't think it's THAT unusual. No idea what was wrong with Jocky, no idea if he's been leading a bad lifestyle or not or whether it was hereditary. Feels like he's recovered very well though to be at death's door to leaving hospital within a couple of weeks so hopefully he's got a long time left.
Sort of knew him back in the day as my dad was his regular cabbie to take him back to Southport (Graeme Sharp was a regular too). Lovely fella. Tipped well.

Well yeah. If he was in for a hysterectomy then I'd grant you that'd be pretty unusual.

Some geriatric golfer was told Liverpool and thought they said liver poor.

Incorrect.  A very fit guy still leading a very healthy lifestyle....not a heavy drinker in any way
By:
The Dragon
When: 25 Jun 24 15:24
yes id be surprised if he was a drinker.

strang its not possible to find out what was/is wrong with him.

it is when you're seriously ill

You don't have to be to get cirrhosis - speaking as someone who got it at 28 from drinking too much!

my grandad died from liver disease before he was 50 and he was teetotal, nowadays (young) people are getting it for any number of reasons, often linked to lifestyle but not necessarily.
