Agreed ^ but some very worrying aspects to that game though.
For the first goal there was no midfielders anywhere near the play once they got into the final 3rd. For the 2nd goal, Guimaraes (Who gets a pass in every game by the fans) made no effort to track back and assist the defence. He was literally jogging and was a total disgrace. He was ahead of Elanga before the play started. He is massively over rated imho I'd bin every player at that club before i'd bin Howe but that type of decision doesn't happen in the modern game. |

Agreed with dambuster
By:
Yeah, agree with some of what dambuster says but that's not what the owners give a fook about and the geography has nothing whatsover to do with it otherwise no fooker would be going to Saudi to play, once the pounds start to fly then you will see players arriving, Howe is a dead man walking and has been ever since he walked in the door what's more he knew it.
If Newcastle weren't in such a perilous spot he wouldn't have even got the job in the first place, he was only ever keeping the seat warm for a galactico ad that is how it will go, someone like a Conte will be next through the door, just a matter of time, the owners will be thinking, about bloody time too. As for Howe, he's done himself a lot of favours and put himself back into the shop window, if he went before ETH I wouldn't rule out Radcliffe snapping him up. |

By:
Manchester United are by common consensus having a nightmare season but they are ahead of Howe's Newcastle.
United need to sack ten Hag. Newcastle need to give Howe a 5 year contract extension. |
By:
Newcastle have overperformed with a small squad,
we will know Howe's fate in weeks, through the support he either gets or doesn't in the transfer market. if as Duffy says, he is a dead man walking, he will get token small signings and late failed bids. However let's be real, there are very few who could have achieved the instant impact he did on arrival, so don't get over-enamored by foreign mercenaries carrying false hope. Howe could do a really good job if backed. (In my opinion) |

^
Agreed, we all think that, football people think that, but the owners want to be noticed, they are not football purists, Newcastle is just the latest in a long line of sports vehicles being used to promote themselves and when they all sat down around the table at the beginning of their reign and discussed who was the one man that they needed to steer the ship and be the figurehead of the club that would make all the eyes look to the North East, no way did they think that it was Eddie Howe. |
By:
He won't be there much longer. He's pretty good but not good enough. And I'm talking about ability nothing else.
By:
The Owners and the Board will have already lined up the man they want and and if he is any good he won't be available until the summer.
By:
Hopefully Howe is England manager for the World Cup, i think we'd deffo win it with him in charge

Eddie battling tenHaag and Hodgson for favourite in next manager out

Eddie never won anything yet

By:
Would be a staggeringly bad decision to sack him. Who would they appoint in his place?
Players are not good enough. If viewed honestly they are 6th/7th best in the league in terms of quality and depth. Howe has them at the level they deserve and what would give me hope is he seems to see the players who are holding them back. The physio looks like he's been let go which shows there is some shake up going on. Botman supposedly played 2 games with torn ACL cos the medical team missed it ffs |
By:
I don't think they will sustain a position in top 6 or 7 though, and if not Eddie will be in trouble I think.

The Saudis are not going to appoint Big Sam or any other interim manager. They will waint until the end of May to announce their shiny new manager.
By:
why if their going to make change, might as well give any new guy half a season with little hanging on it,to get his ducks in a row, with players away at euro,s not a lot of time in pre season to get sorted
By:
If the new guy is any good he'll currently be employed.
By:
I'd give him a new 5 year contract, that would make the team more stable and let the players know,
Its not the coach, its you lot. |
By:
I like Howe but it's right to question the signing of Tonali and how much due diligence was done. Main signing of the summer, tying up millions upon millions and he lasts a couple of weeks before the skeletons tumble out of the closet. Owners must be fuming at that surely.
By:
The Arsenal owners stayed patient with Mikel Arteta after two 8th placed finishes, and now they're reaping the rewards.
This is Howe's first rough patch, during a crazy injury crisis out of his hands. Hire and fire culture rarely works - give him the chance to turn it around, he will turn it round. |

Surely its not up to Howe to be doing due diligence. IMHO that would fall at Dan Ashworths door. Ashworths Head of Physio appointment has left the club after only 15 months and paternity leave. I would expect this is linked to Sven Botmans ACL injury not being picked up and him playing 2 games worsening the injury. Ashworths reputation is massively over rated and he gives me the waft of an "FA Head" bluffer. Tony Bloom rules the roost at Brighton so any recruitment success wouldn't be lain at Ashworths door imho and beyond that I see little real achievement. I expect Ashworth will leave before Howe. |
By:
the main reason for arsenals supposed improvement were l,pool and chelsea falling off a cliff in same season and no ch lg football,
he now has no recognised no 1 goalie or striker and spent 200 mill on 2 players to be in a worse position than 12 months ago, COOL |
By:
MBS didn't buy Newcastle to win the FA Cup. He wants to emulate City. Howe has zero chance of helping Newcastle do that.
By:
Howe has already helped Newcastle do that.
Even the fallen giants are scared. |
By:
Surely its not up to Howe to be doing due diligence.
absolutely - that's not on Howe at all... |
By:
My impression is that Howe has (as is correct in the modern game) has only a part in the recruitment anyway...I'm sure he's consulted and has influence but fewer and fewer clubs leave the manager to pick and choose on his own..
By:
Yeah, fair enough. It's probably more on the DoF if Howe is basically just the coach.
I know from experience here that Liverpool really go deep on the personality of players to root out any dickheads before they're signed. Seems perfectly normal to me. Much more mad to be chucking tens of millions at someone and for it to fall apart in the way that it has. Surely a few chats with ex-colleagues or others with good connections in Serie A would have uncovered some rumours of his hobbies. |
By:
So Liverpool did there due diligence on Luis Suárez, El Hadji Diouf, Robbie Fowler the white line sniffer, Jermaine Pennant, Bellamy, Stan Collymore, and I'm sure a few more over the years.
Tonali was at AC Milan for 3 years, a Serie A winner, 15 caps for Italy - and no one invloved with those clubs knew anything about his gambling habit, or at the very least no one is owning up to knowing about it. You can do as much due diligence as you want, and Newcastle do that, but sometimes - it gets you nowhere. |
By:
The one obvious thing to come out of this is, is the Pif really need to listen to the lads on here who know best. They need to listen to the smoggies and yorkies, the cockernee reds, the scandi scousers, the folk who really know north east football. then we will be in a good place
