VPN providers have 'virtual' servers all around the world. If you want to watch American Prime just connect to an american server. They are easy enough to use but can be a bit laggy.

Sometimes the BBC twig you are connecting via a VPN server and block you from Iplayer. Simply connect via another of the UK servers until you find one the BBC doesn't know about.

Obviously you shouldn't use a VPN to connect up to Betfair. That would be illegal.
Report lurka August 29, 2023 12:01 PM BST
Yes. But certain phone apps including betfair use location data from your phone which will tell them you are in the USA
You'd be better off using a VPS, which is a computer you rent in the UK which connects to the website from the UK and you control it remotely from your phone or laptop in the USA via a logmein type service.

This guy says he currently uses PlentyPass to watch prem sat 3pm matches but needs to upgrade as PlentyPass is unreliable. How to upgrade is the question!

Steve

I use IP Vanish and it certainly works everywhere i've travelled to without any problem.

You can set it to whatever country you want to appear to be present in.
Report 11kv August 29, 2023 5:53 PM BST
Free or monthly payment that is the question fella.

Going to need this to watch College Football this season, TNT not covering it, absolute disaster.

I've been using Browsec for several years and imo their premium service is the best value on the market at $40 per annum
Report sparrow August 30, 2023 3:06 PM BST
I have used Nord VPN on a 2 year deal and wondered if there was better value out there. Only really use it for the football.
Report Storm Alert August 30, 2023 4:45 PM BST
If you find there is a big price hike from Nord after first term, worth switching to get a good start deal again with a different provider. ExpressVPN have been around for ages and offers a good start up price and no issues with access geo-blocked streaming content. Surfshark is cheapest of three mentioned and gets a good rap but not tried them myself yet.
Report sparrow August 30, 2023 5:09 PM BST
Thank you, storm. Just been looking at Browsec which also seems reasonably priced.

Turbo VPN and Turbo Lite VPN is the one I use. Been using it for some years and not had a problem. Its free although you can choose to pay which gives you a faster connection, as yet I've never seen the need to upgrade.

I've been using a VPN to access BF for years and it's never been a problem. "Location services" on my phone is almost always switched off.

Report sofaking March 4, 2024 4:36 PM GMT
Nord VPN is a good option but there are others that are just as good (Proton, ExpressVPN, SurfShark, IP Vanish, etc). Just don't use a "free"VPN. They'll steal your data.
Report lurka March 4, 2024 5:22 PM GMT
There was a time when the app wouldn't let you access from a phone without location data. Seems they've done away with that requirement now tho

Never had a problem accessing BF on any VPN, but its some of the other firms that are getting better at blocking them.
One in particular (think Ray Winstone) has a Fort Knox level of defence against those pesky customers who dare to log in for a bet while they're away on their holidays.
Has anyone tried using a dedicated IP (the likes of which VPN providers such as SurfShark offer) to solve this ?
Report dave1357 March 5, 2024 8:46 PM GMT
I haven't felt the need to use this method yet, but it is possible to set up a vpn that uses your home internet ie tenerife - tu casa - bet-tres-seis-cinco.
Report Platini March 5, 2024 10:15 PM GMT
Do tell, I haven't heard of that.

Any idiots guide for it ?  I'm not the most tech savy Crazy
Report lurka March 6, 2024 11:07 AM GMT
I've never done it but I have my own router, separate to the one my internet co gives me, and you can basically open up ports on it and access it from abroad. It's like giving it an internet address you can access from anywhere and then use your home internet connection. You might even be able to do it with the routers you get from your internet co too but you'd need to get into the settings and allow access.
Report lurka March 6, 2024 11:13 AM GMT
Your router would need to have a built-in VPN function. So basically your router is the VPN server. You connect to it remotely via the web and then use your home internet connection from anywhere.
Report dave1357 March 6, 2024 11:17 AM GMT
It is also possible to buy a server or use a pc/laptop as a server - just do a search for how to do it.
Report spyker March 6, 2024 12:31 PM GMT
Proton is the best free vpn as you get some features you normally pay for (those that pay basically keeps the free decent). It's probably a bit more 'ethical' than most vpns as they don't sell (anonymised) data it seems. If you need secure emails they do that as their main thing I believe.
Report sofaking March 6, 2024 3:42 PM GMT
I thought Proton VPN was a paid service?  I do use their email service though along with Nord VPN.
Report Platini March 6, 2024 4:58 PM GMT
I've used Proton for years. Their email is excellent. And their VPN is among the best of the free ones.
I think it works ok for BF but most online bookies can block access. SurfShark is the best paid VPN I've tried, for the price (very reasonable) and number of locations.
Works for everything except Ray Winston.
