If you like top-flight English football, you must admire Everton FC. For the first time, I fear we may be going down but I detect little broad concern.

Buck up.

It is your duty as football fans to support Everton staying up but I fear the football gods have worse in store. It must be something to do with leaving Goodison Park.

Biscuits

I wouldn’t do Everton any harm going down ,get use to winning again rather than celebrating draws visit new stadiums all in all providing your back after one season the fans would enjoy it ,my team was relegated in 74 anyone who followed them in division 2 absolutely loved the season still to this day it’s talked about fondly.

I remember in the relegation season celebrating a goalless draw at home against wolves things were that bad if Alex Stepney (goalkeeper) hadn’t missed a penalty he would have been leading goal scorer and that game was in February

Back in the day there was a recognised 'Top 5' of which Everton was one. Today, that Top 5 form 5 of the 6 never to have been relegated from the Premier League. It would be a sad day if that were to end.

There’s only Everton and arsenal in my lifetime that have never been out of the top flight.

It wouldn’t be sad for long united played out 7 goalless draw in 73/74 and failed to score in 19 games that’s no good to those sat watching, following season wins and goals galore and great fun.

In the words of Kevin Keegan. "I would love it, love it if Everton got relegated. They have no divine right to be in the Premiership and their position in the league tells all.

Arsenal will be the only team never to have been relegated from the Premier League if Everton goes down.

There's a lot to be said about a day out in Luton and Rotherham, embrace change, as good as a rest.

Arsenal will be the only team never to have been relegated from the Premier League if Everton goes down.

There are 4 other teams that have never been relegated from it.

United/Liverpool/Chelsea/Spurs last relegations were all 50s-80s

Everton v Arsenal at Goodison is the most consecutively played fixture at the same venue in English football history.

The game in February was the 69th season in a row they played there.

Everton not down yet.

Newcastle were heading for another relegation last
season but it didn't happen.

As above the championship can be an enjoyable
break from struggles in Premier league.

Brighton have never been relegated from the Premier League.

Arsenal, Man United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham, Everton have been in the Premier League since it's inception in 92/93.

Arsenal currently hold the longest run in the top flight without relegation, they've never been relegated under the name Arsenal, last time they went down over 100 years ago they were known as Woolwich Arsenal.

If Everton are relegated and I hope they won't be, don't count on them playing Luton because Luton have every chance of playing City, Lpool, United, Chelsea et al next season which considering they were in the conference as recently as 2013 is some run of success. Not sure anyone has ever done it quicker.

New ground mooted for them too, I understand.
Report Winja April 29, 2023 9:56 AM BST
im sure i saw an interview with one of the luton players who has been in the team since the conference and would be the first player to go from conference to premiership with the same club if it happens.....was a great story...

I agree with jimnast.
Also relegation would provide valuable work experience, assuming they had the desire to reclaim their PM status of course.

The flipside is that it'd be by no means guaranteed it'd be a short spell in the lower divisions.

Their finances are an utter mess, and it's common knowledge their money came from Usmanov rather than Moshiri. There must be a decent chance they start next season with a points deduction. They are committed to the new stadium which has 15 months work to go. They've sold most of their "top" players. Pickford's probably the only one left who they could hope to get around £50M.

As long as Moshiri is calling the shots you'd have to gamble on more and more poor decisions being made.
Report unitedbiscuits April 29, 2023 7:01 PM BST
Can't disagree with the premise that Everton deserve to go down. Awful purchases on big contracts. Don't like Dycheball.

Stupid stupid commitment to a new stadium - I know Goodison is falling down but why not upgrade the benches etc..
Even if Everton come straight back up, could be in Norwich-Watford-Burnley yo-yo hell.
Report rothko April 29, 2023 10:24 PM BST
if everton go down they will end up in administration and in league 1

Its a shame the whole club disgraced itself when throwing that match against citeh (home 2014) so Liverpool wouldn't win the title. Thing is Liverpool fecked it up on their own (palace and chelsea fans seem to, think they were why lpool lost as well!). They have also spent shedloads of dosh and aren't the poor relations they claim - more like  neighbours who own a semi and drive a Porsche than anyone to give a sheet about. My grandad taught a few of the Everton team from the 30's btw!
Report mesmerised May 2, 2023 6:54 PM BST
think you'll find the whole "we're Scouse not English" shtick is what basically makes people not give a s*** about either club. I'm not bothered who goes down though if I had a choice I'd keep the London clubs up, Bournemouth and Southmpton, less travelling for Arsenal. Kind Regards.
