Champions League final 2006, can't watch it even now, seen youtube highlights of past finals and have to skip past 06, triple punishment with Lemon sent off after 15 minutes, Pires hauled off for 2nd choice Keeper, think they scored 2 offside goals that VAR would have ruled out, at least 1 anyway. Ref said years later in was a mistake to send Lehmann off. Larsson who spent years in Scotland decided to pop up in a CL Final for an assist, journeyman scored the winner in the pissing rain, seemed destiny at the time though, Bergkamp signing off after 11 years in his last season (though he didn't get on) and Wenger's 10 years at the club in a Paris final, Henry had a great chance for 2-0, before Messi, Xavi and Iniesta really came to prominence, think they were all on the bench that night, massive missed opportunity, 17 years goes quick. Kind Regards.

Was actually a win but felt like the worst defeat ever. Last game of season away to sunderland, united had to better city's result at home to QPR. Utd won 1-0 , city game was still going on and QPR had been leading 2-0 when the pillock joey barton senselessly got sent off, city had got one back by the time Utd's game had finished, but then went on to turn their game round in injury time, won 3-2 and won the 2012 title on goal difference.

Birmingham 2 Arsenal 2 - Feb 2008

Arsenal five points clear of Manure in Premiership. Third-minute horror tackle by Martin Taylor on Eduardo da Silva fractured his tibia and fibula, almost severing his foot off. Such a severe injury that Sky Sports television refused to show replays.

Arsenal played 10 men for remainder of match, but players were clearly affected and far from fluent. Leading 1:2 until a 95th min penalty awarded after Stuart Parnaby dived over Gael Clichy (who didn't make contact and VAR would have overruled). Having lost their main striker, Emmanuel Adebayor was in the box seat, but didn't score in about 10 matches and a six point lead dissipated, which handed lucky old Man Utd waiting in the wings the title on the last day of the season.

Watford went on to win in extra time... the fact that they got thrashed 6-0 in final was no consolation.

First season of the playoffs 86/7.

My team Oldham lost the first leg at Elland Road 1-0 , Keith Edwards 89mins.

The second leg we went 2-0 up 2 minutes from time.
15 seconds later Keith Edwards scored making it 2-2 on aggregate.

Leeds went through on away goals after extra time .....we finished 7 points above them in the league.

It took the club 2 years to recover from the result.....me too.

Note , Leeds did not get promoted.
They drew 1-1 home and way with Charlton (3rd bottom in the old first division).
Charlton won a 3rd game at a neutral venue.

The only positive was ...after already giving away Dennis Irwin to us ....the next season they sold Andy Ritchie to us for peanuts.......the greatest player my club will ever have.

Wesdag Yeah that was a big mistake by Wenger, like most Arsenal fans hated that decision. We hit the bar in that semi before lucky old Man Utd went on to win 1:0, with a gifted final win against Milwall. Then a few days later the full strength Arsenal team went out to Chelsea in CL semi after conceding a late goal in the home tie after getting a 1:1 draw at Stamford Bridge.

F A Cup Final 1986. Everton 1 Liverpool 3. Spent my whole life up to then dreaming of beating them at Wembley in the FAC. 1-0 up HT. I left Liverpool 2 months later to live in London and do a proper, professional job which took over most of life. Still here. Never ever able to rekindle the daft, limitless enthusiasm I had had for footy for 25 years prior to that day, which, in retrospect, marked the end of my "youth", or at least the start of respectable middle-age. It was certainly a significant day in my life, not just for the result.

Another one that comes to mind is when Man Utd beat Arsenal 2-1 in the FA Cup semi in 1999.  It's the one where Giggs scores and takes his shirt off.  Everyone was queuing up to suck Giggs's John Thomas afterwards.  But nobody mentioned that Giggs was a substitute who came on at the hour mark.  He scored well into extra time, running against tired players who had an extra hour's gametime in their legs.  I still don't think the hype was deserved.  At the time I absolutely loathed Man Utd and the Giggs-adoration did nothing to calm my condition.  I was a teenager as well so football was a far greater preoccupation in my life than it does now as an adult.

You make a very good point about where the semi finals are played part of the fun of the semi final draw was which stadium would it be at ,also no replays are a negative,it’s a real shame now the obsession with the premier league and champions league has over shadowed the fa cup .

That all said the saddest moment I felt in sport due to the pandemic was the arsenal Chelsea cup final played in front of no crowd that really hit home to me how the world was at that time.

Bill Shankly is alleged to have got hold of Kevin Keegan later in Moore's career before playing West Ham at Anfield and told him that he'd been watching the West Ham players walking in and that Bobby Moore look tired and jaded.  "He;s been out clubbing son, you;re going to score a hat trick today"!  No Liverpool players scored that day and afterwards Shankly told Keegan - "You were never going to score today son - Bobby Moore is the best in the game"!   Grin

The Boro defeat @ Wolves in the 1981 FAC 6th round, felt like it broke up the Boro team (Craig Johnston, David Armstrong, Mark Proctor, Bosco Jankovic - all soon left) suppesdly to pay for Charlie Amers Sports Centre and the club ended in Div 3 (now 1) and in Administration by 1986. 12,000 Boro fans went to Wolves for the evening replay. I think the crowd was 44k.

Yellow (Yella) Rose was a big pub for Boro fans when we played at Ayresome.

Frontline were the main Boro crew in 1981 - mainly they just went to away games where there was a chance of what they called some chew.

Terry Cochrane I think lives in Normanby now - great little winger in 1981.

My biggest disappointment was losing 4-0 at the UEFA Cup Final in 2006 - Seville were an excellent team, but I was hoping to give them a close game after the heroics that occurred to get to the Final. It also felt like a bit of the end of era with Steve MaClaren going to the England job and Gareth Southgate retiring.
