Yeah it’s going the way of the league cup now. Got under valued with having the semis at Wembley and no replay in final. As I said previously the 2 1970 final games were terrific, although if var had been around then they would’ve ended up being 5 aside games.

Yes redrob 1970 was a great final (both of them)the day when hardly anyone had a colour tv ,a friend of my dads had one so it was there I watched both games,he and his pals were all city fans so in the replay at old Trafford we had to listen to the wireless as city were playing gornik in the cup winners cup final,
You make a very good point about where the semi finals are played part of the fun of the semi final draw was which stadium would it be at ,also no replays are a negative,it’s a real shame now the obsession with the premier league and champions league has over shadowed the fa cup . That all said the saddest moment I felt in sport due to the pandemic was the arsenal Chelsea cup final played in front of no crowd that really hit home to me how the world was at that time. |

Regarding the league cup I’m not been bias but I do think Sundays has a real buzz about it.

Re the league cup, i think both participants would forgo it for a guarenteed top 4 spot. Barring the winners no one ever remembers who won it or cares.

I think those at Wembley on Sunday in particular the Newcastle fan will cherish a win,but yes the clubs would sooner have a top 4 finish.

Was in Newcastle the weekend they lost to Scholes and co. in the FA Cup final. It wasn;t pretty. Their capacity for fighting amongst themselves when they lose is well known.

boro away to wolves in f a cup quarter final replay , boro,s golden generation hodgson,proctor,johnson,armstrong etc, players allegedly all fell out arguing and fighting with each other and fans in motorway cafe on way home

Has to be England's defeat to W Germany in 1970. The England team were better than the 1966 winners imo and their opening match against Brazil was quality. I was hoping that the final would be between the same 2 sides, but unfortunately, thanks to the ref and Banksey's food poisoning, it wasn't to be.

Totally agree the 70 side was better than 66 ,driver,nit picking I know but Romania was Englands first match followed by Brazil then Czechoslovakia.

And wasn't Bobby Moore amazing! I'll never forget the respect that Pele gave him at the end of their match, Bobby's timing in the tackle was incredible that day,

It was a wonderful world cup driver and that game had everything from Bobby moores brilliant performance to Gordon banks save and of course the unforgettable sight and the embrace between Bobby and pele pure class.
That Brazilian side was and will always be the best team I will ever see ,it was certainly englands best team and west Germanys best team and probably italys best yet I doubt combined they would have stopped Brazil winning the World Cup. |

Moore was absolutely top class. Without him and Bobby Charlton that side would have been quite ordinary. And I agree - the embrace between Pele and him afterwards is one of the great sporting moments.
Bill Shankly is alleged to have got hold of Kevin Keegan later in Moore's career before playing West Ham at Anfield and told him that he'd been watching the West Ham players walking in and that Bobby Moore look tired and jaded. "He;s been out clubbing son, you;re going to score a hat trick today"! No Liverpool players scored that day and afterwards Shankly told Keegan - "You were never going to score today son - Bobby Moore is the best in the game"!  |

1st time poster, I was at that Wolves-Boro game.. one of my favourite memories. Brilliant atmosphere, I remember it went to extra time and we won 3-1 (Kenny Hibbitt scored, I think) We lost to Spurs in the semi after a replay at a hardly neutral Highbury (wonder goal from Ricky Villa)
One of my heartbreak moments was a few years earlier... also in the FA cup quarters replay at Molineux... '76, I think. 2 nil up against Man Utd... lost 3-2 |

Sunderland getting beat in the 1987 inter-division play offs over two legs against Gillingham to send us down to the third division for the first time in our history.....little did i know we'd spend another four years down there in my lifetime

Losing at home to Arsenal 0-2 in 1989 and conceding right at the end to a Michael Thomas goal and lose the league was a real sickner .
Would have won it at 0-1 still have nightmares about it. Losing to united in the 76 FA Cup Final when we battered them was also tough - Flukey Macari goal  England losing to Germany in Euro 96 was also hard to take |

Dragon, that match in 1989 was incredible for many reasons. The Liverpool fans were awesome that night given everything that had gone before. My recollection is Arsenal were presented with the trophy on the pitch and although the players/fans celebrations were muted of course, most Liverpool fans stayed and applauded. Within a few years football changed forever with the formation of the Premier League and businessmen (or countries) taking over our magnificent game...

A lot of FA Cup memories on here. 2001, we battered Liverpool but lost to two late Owen goals, think Henchoz handled in the box but got away with it, 4 years later Man United the much better team on the day and we stole it on penalties with Paddy getting the winner, can still see Fergie and Keane standing next to each other in the rain afterwards completely bamboozled as to what just happened.

Henchoz tipped the ball around the post denying Henry a certain goal. It was in the 17th min as well and very clear cut, making it hard to understand how the referee Steve Dunn missed it.

in the 1st game on the sat 1 v 1 the wolves crew took THE TROOPER pub well known pub for boro crew plenty had tried before but that was the only time an away team took it over [:sad: ] |

apparently that game was the last 40,000 plus ground at molineaux

I heard that it was tasty at the first match ... I would've gone but for a family wedding.
Yeah they closed half of Molineux not long after the replay... coz of the Bradford fire. Two of our stands were part wooden |

We only had half a ground till Sir Jack Hayward came along and saved the club, rebuilt 3 quarters of the ground

The Boro defeat @ Wolves in the 1981 FAC 6th round, felt like it broke up the Boro team (Craig Johnston, David Armstrong, Mark Proctor, Bosco Jankovic - all soon left) suppesdly to pay for Charlie Amers Sports Centre and the club ended in Div 3 (now 1) and in Administration by 1986. 12,000 Boro fans went to Wolves for the evening replay. I think the crowd was 44k.
Yellow (Yella) Rose was a big pub for Boro fans when we played at Ayresome. Frontline were the main Boro crew in 1981 - mainly they just went to away games where there was a chance of what they called some chew. Terry Cochrane I think lives in Normanby now - great little winger in 1981. My biggest disappointment was losing 4-0 at the UEFA Cup Final in 2006 - Seville were an excellent team, but I was hoping to give them a close game after the heroics that occurred to get to the Final. It also felt like a bit of the end of era with Steve MaClaren going to the England job and Gareth Southgate retiring. |

Was in the kop for that 89 game vs Arsenal, most of the kop turned around for last 5 minutes, everyone could sense what was coming. And it did, tension was unbearable. We didn't play well at all, had been on a great run up to that last game, but we were very subdued for that game. Whether it was the pressure of it all or the circumstances of the what we needed to do got the better of us. If we'd have needed the win that night, really believe we would have, because at that point of the season we were in better form than Arsenal.

biggest memory was boro fans including me getting tanked up from 11 in morning in glorious sunshine thinking where are all the spanish fans , we,re outnumbering them 3 to 1 ,till getting in ground 30 mins before ko and seeing banks of seville fans with huge banners who,d been in ground for hrs different cultures as how to watch football |
