He was told not to train with the squad by Brighton until the transfer window is closed.

Brighton do this really well. Don't blame them for the way they are playing their hand. If a top club wants a player in January then they are going to have to pay. United under Fergusson knew they had to pay a premium because it was United. I guess they always do.

I really don't know how good this kid is. I thought they were after Danilo and he went to Forest for £16 million. Now Arsenal are looking at paying £160 million for 2 centre midfield players but they could well be what is required. Nearly everything else is in place. When the right goal scorer becomes available. They also have an eye on the Montpellier wunder kid and allegedly a new right back and a different paper said they were considering selling Tierney to Juve!

I think Arsenal would be right to roll the dice this once, but I don't know how good the kid is. The Title is there for the taking. The squad needs strengthening in the right places at the right price. Players will now want to come to Arsenal.

So Brighton dig their heels in and keep a player who doesn't want to play for the club, that's clever

What player do they think they're going to get for the rest of the season? a player that has played at the same level for the last few months? not only are his performances going to diminish because his head has turned 180 like an owl in the complete opposite direction but his transfer value is also going to depreciate along with it, then they have a problem going into next season, maybe they are so loaded these days having fleeced mugs like Chelsea and Tottenham for average players they genuinely do not need the money, by refusing him a better career they are also taking a Premier League title away from his which will also make him resent the club and likely to never reach the same level again. Any sensible board would just do the honourable thing and allow the kid to progress in life, clubs like Brighton should know their place in the pecking order and ecosystem, any good player they have will eventually have the bigger fish come circling, looking for pats on the back taking the moral high ground for holding him to his contract is all well and good but in the long run they will be the losers.

As for wantaway players getting a bad rap, why is it fair managers get to decide that a player is no longer good enough for them and can move them on with no backlash from the fans when he has a contract, why is it fair a club owner can decide an offer is too good to turn down for a player when he wants to stay but forces him to move on, with no backlash from the fans, yet a a player decides a club is no longer good enough for him and people are up in arms, fine him, banish him to the stands, make him train with the kids, double standards, a manger and an owner can decide a players contract is not worth the paper it's written on when it suits them but the player can't do the same thing....WALOFS.

Kind Regards.

Mesmerised - I think the Caicedo situation is more complicated than you think it is. Firstly it is not clear that he wants to go, despite what his agent said he said. Secondly Brighton want him to help secure a place in Europe because a place in Europe will help them keep other players likely to be in demand before next season - Mitoma, Macallister, Estupinian and Lamptey.

You say "Any sensible board would just do the honourable thing".  Really!!.... The Brighton board don't seem to be doing too bad so far.  I don't think they are taking the moral high ground at all, they are just doing the balancing act that all teams in their situation have to.  Their "problem" if indeed it is one, is that they have lots of good players, some potentially much better than good.

Knee jerk reaction to buy Fernandez for over 100 million who's barely scored 20 goals in his career, but he's a World Cup winner so that in Boehly's mind gives him gravitas in his billionaire circle of chums, who out there was even bidding 50 mil for him, release clause or not if no other bidders of that range then they'd have got him eventually, is he even better than Gallagher.

As for sending West Ham a message, I'm pretty sure they don't want to sell Rice and if they do decide to then Arsenal will face competition form clubs with deep pockets. Rice won't be going for peanuts.
