Reportedly

Man United, Chelsea and Tottenham all apparently interested.

Would he even be an upgrade for those teams?

a little inconsistent at times for Everton but not many prem keepers you couldn't level that at currently..

been largely very decent in England colours...better distribution than most and has the experience of big games and high pressure environments through his England experience so unlikely to be fazed by a move to a bigger club...

if De Gea goes back to Spain or doesn't reach agreement on pay reduction (seems likely he'll be staying currently) wouldn't mind him at all personally..though Spurs might feel a more likely fit...

Everton to Tottenham is just a sideways move,  there's not exactly a culture of winning there, they have owners they solely care about the pound note, their fans are just cattle to them, Kane has completely wasted the best years of his life chasing records rather than silverware, think Arsenal should put in a bid, it wont be as bad as the Sol Campbell move, as Kane was actually a boyhood Arsenal fan, Kind Regards.
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- January 10, 2023 4:14 PM GMT
He's a good shot stopper despite his short arms.

But he's poor at crosses, if he comes for one, so likely he could only
replace de gea or lloris. Puts added pressure on centre halves
to defend.

His distribution is average but he can kick the
ball a long way from goal kicks making him a useful
extra weapon in route 1 situations. Pitches it half
way into oppo half which is good stuff, down wind
it's edge of their box!

His temprement has to be suspect, but as above
he has been fantastic for England.

If he had any length of arms he would have got to the opener against France, fantastic for England my arse!
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- January 10, 2023 6:00 PM GMT
Nowt to do with the length of his short arms for france
first goal, he simply mis judged the bend on it.

Anybody might get caught by it, but a top goalie
should have done better.

if you are rating Pickford's distribution as average, yhtl....one wonders what you make of Nick Pope...Plain

Below pickford, although he's learning.
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- January 10, 2023 11:25 PM GMT
Pope's positioning and handling has improved too.
Report brentford January 10, 2023 11:32 PM GMT
I rate Pope's keeping ability quite highly ...but have never seen in recent times someone as uncomfortable with the ball at his feet (in top tier football) as he appeared when he played for England..

I'm sure it's being worked on a lot but to be that bad he's clearly just not a natural on the ball at all...so there's limits to what can be done..

Pickford quite regularly pings pretty accurate 60 yard balls (passes not punts) ... Ederson aside (who is clearly the benchmark for keepers distribution) not seen many doing that to be fair..

also very good at getting the ball out of his hands to defenders in a progressive manner...struggling to think of any obvious examples in the PL who are better on those fronts..
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- January 10, 2023 11:44 PM GMT
Pickford finished second in most 40+ yard pass attempts amongst Premier League keepers last season with 821. Only Burnley keeper Nick Pope had more at 847. Pope and Pickford both finished 1 and 2 for most completions of said passes, with 319 and 291 respectively. In fact, nearly 70% of all of Pickford’s passes (not including goal kicks) were 40+ yards as the Blues went long-ball more often than not. However, Pickford finished in 14th for completion percentage of 40+ yard passes. These numbers could come from the fact that Everton were behind in most of their games last season or just the fact that the entire team was a bit shambolic; pick your poison.

Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- January 10, 2023 11:57 PM GMT
Pickford also finished first in average length of passes with 53 yards. Everton fans will also know that Pickford has never been one to throw the ball and the stats can certainly back that up, as he finished 17th in the league with only 108 throws.

interesting stats...criteria for completion would be quite critical - does winning a header count presumably ?

impossible to know cause re Pickford success rate - though they were often lacking a target CF which wouldn't help such an approach..
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- January 11, 2023 12:16 AM GMT
No idea, stats ain't always 100% useful.

Just a guide, and as per the article it might
have been skewed by Everton outfield players underperforming.

as most top sides have keepers passing it to centre backs inside the 18 yd box, what benefit,s does   pickford been able to wellie it a 100 yds to no one in particular bring to the top teams
Report Aspro January 11, 2023 11:11 AM GMT
The amount of errors caused by passing it out from the back probably justifies the long hoof and to be fair to Pickford, he can and often does pick out a decent long range pass. He's not a terrible keeper at all imo

As there is no offside from a goal kick
it is a huge advantage to be able to punt
the ball a long way.
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- January 11, 2023 1:59 PM GMT
The possession game ruined basketball
so they have a shot clock.

You must take a pot at the basket within 25
secs or you surrender possession.

Not there in football yet but, ffs, it can
be tedious at times watching teams keep ball
for minutes without any real attempt to score.
Report Crisp77 January 11, 2023 2:01 PM GMT
I'm surprised the big clubs don't just put an outfield player in goal. They rarely have a save to make against the park-the-bus teams.

Other sports have specific rules and you
can learn from them

Rugby bans forward passes, and gridiron limits
to one forward pass per possession.

Why?

Because forward passing is advantageous Happy

Report Racingqueen January 14, 2023 10:21 PM GMT
I dont think he is over rated. He is useless.

His England position is based on him being there at the right time with a bunch of awful keepers post Joe Hart.

At the moment Pope and Ramsdale are in a different postal code to him. Southgate being the spoofer he is takes the easy option.

He is actually worse than Joe Hart.
Report Racingqueen January 14, 2023 10:22 PM GMT
I'd say the Everton Defenders would be delighted to see him gone. His constant whinging at his backs is worse than Ronaldo.
They don't even seem to listen to him anymore.
