We know all this.  It isn't news.  Which makes the progress Clarke has divined out of this squad even more noteworthy.
We've been found out tonight and it was always going to come, sometime because as you say the material is average.  But Clarke has given us a little self respect with his run of results and forward we go looking to do something in the Euros for 2024.  We need better players and can only hope we find them.
Just why the English feel they need to gloat when they have blown real chances to win their last two tournaments is beyond me.  The softest run/draw in World Cup Finals history and bottled it in the semis against Croatia.  Going one up in the Euros final, at home, against a defence who's average age was about 35, and totally throwing it away!
We're trying to get to that level of non-success too but it is a long hard road.

i think scots fans have every right to be disappointed after they'd done the hard job of getting past world giants moldova, israel, faroe isles etc, it must be incredibly frustrating to know that they were so close to being able to challenge france, belgium, brazil and argentina at the big table and that their obvious marked improvement in not dropping points this time around to the faroes will be in vain; makes you wonder where it all went wrong ....
