I really rate your first named, not sure about the rest. I think when Rodgers fronted Queen he took the band to a different level. They played like a rock band for the first time in many years.

Queen in the early days wee brilliant and Mecurys range of voice on the first four albums was fantastic. Coverdale is a given such rich tones and a great range.
Hay (Golden Earing) great voice which has stood the test of time and the same can be said of Catley who is very much underated in the rock world.
Agree on Rodgers but not with Queen - Mercury just irreplaceable.
Love springstein songs but a very poor voice imvho- Jagger in the same book

Springsteen for me, unlike the dragon, i used to love that gravely 80's era sound. he's still holding up pretty well for 70+, shame they've had to put the 2021 tour plans on hold

Maybe they don't all fit the rock criteria but my 4 best of all time.
Steve Perry...JourneyKlaus Meine...ScorpionsMark Hollis...Talk TalkCarl Wilson...Beach BoysMaybe they don't all fit the rock criteria but my 4 best of all time.
I'm struggling to choose one, I've seen AC/DC, Springsteen, Stones, INXS, Billy Joel and others but none of those a stand out.
If pressed I'd choose the person whose voice and songs I really enjoy and maybe counts in a "soft rock" (ish) kind of way.
Step forward.... Neil Diamond.
Mark Hollis is a very good shout Hayden by the way. I do like a bit of Talk Talk when I have an 80"s hour of a morning I must say.

As a kid me mam played me the platters and Gene Pitney, they were rock and roll to her, and her generation. Great singers.
Pretty sure you can have Neil Diamond.
Elvis had a great voice too.

However, just for an individual vocal performance, the Gold Medal would go to Devin Townsend / Deadhead

Frank Sinatra thought Glen Campbell was a p**fter when he helped sing backing at his recording sessions! It is hard to forget Joe Cocker's performance at Woodstock

Steve Marriot. Good shout. Pity he left the faces. They were all leaving good bands around that time to start 'supergroups' Did any of them really do any better ?

I remember him talking about how he wrote the lyrics of one of Slade's earliest and greatest hits on the top of a bus. Ten minute journey. Sometimes inspiration just grabs you he said.
