Response from BF help:

There's no way of proving the motivation behind those bets - Xhaka to be booked is quite a popular selection, as he does get booked more often than not - Gilles M

Interesting to see the accounts of those bets.

I do think many people might have cottoned onto the yellow card Xhaka so it might be coincidence.

It will also be interesting to see if there is an Albania gangster connection!

Unless there’s a financial trail back to him, impossible to prove. Wasn’t there a probably apocryphal tale where the Hammers under Harry immediately hoofed the ball out from kick off to land the first throw in bet?

In his autobiography, Matt Le Tissier claimed to have done this in a match for Southampton.  But I seem to recall that the details didn't really tie up when people looked back at the match where it was meant to have happened.

I had a knicker on him getting booked tonight.I know he is not playing but he might run onto the pitch and kick someoneLaugh

Close but no cigar

Partey to the rescue!

Won’t be any links to Xhaka. He does not need the money but the Albanians might have him under manners.

They've tipped him off by announcing it. By the time they look for his phone he'll have 'lost' & replaced it

Hackshaw, I have heard that Le Tissier story. It went like this.

He bet on the time of the first throw in on one of the football indexes, so the quicker the first throw in the more he won, and once past the time of the bet the longer it went without a throw in the more he lost.

He got the ball soon after the kick-off and he pretended to slightly overhit a long pass to put the ball out. However, one of his teammates 'leapt like a salmon' (Le Tissier's words) and managed to keep the ball in play. Then no matter how much he chased he couldn't get hold of the ball for ages and he had lost a great deal of money by the time it eventually went out for a throw-in.

You may be right, but I seem to recall it being Dennis Wise for Wimbledon, although they were probably all at it back then.

Theres always some bu$$ hit story surrounding the time of the first throw in , usually involving Redknapp and whatever lie/book/public appearance he is peddling.

They used to tell one how they had sold the time on the spreads for time of the first throw. They kicked off and punted it into the crowd , then some fan threw a sandwich at the full back taking it , over came security and it took ages before the culprit was escorted out.  Time of the first throw ran into the minutes and they done a fortune.   I think Harry and Derek McGovern were spinning that particular version.

Hadn't previously seen this thread, certainly an entertaining read. Fair play to the sharp minds on here who spotted the alleged irregularities at the time they allegedly happened, will be interesting to see what happens from here. Reminiscent of the infamous Susses v Kent thread on the cricket forum many moons ago.

Mr Neymar planning a Xhaka tonight? 8.3k already matched down to 1.40 at home to Maccabi Haifa.

He's been booked twice in the comp this season, so another would mean a 1 game suspension, which if they win tonight, will be a dead rubber.

Wouldn't have been a dead rubber if Benfica get a result tonight, they are level on points, results and goal diff before tonight with first in the group at stake. All the talk in the media was that he had to avoid a booking tonight or he'd miss what might be a vital game against Juve in the last game. Maybe he's looking to get off early before the WC?
