Anyone grew up in the early seventies, certain tracks just transport you right back. Aside from the obvious, much repeated, great songs by the likes of David Bowie, Simon and Garfunkel, Don Maclean etc. Certain types of music and certain songs have the power to send a shiver down your spine, or bring a tear to your eye.

Here's a couple that you might or might not remember.

I've always loved the sound of the flute, can't think of any other instrument as redolent of the early 70's, you don't hear it so much these days, other than in orchestras, which is a shame

"Winter in America" by Gil Scott Heron
and
"Chicago Damn" by Bobbi Humphrey.

Two of my favourites

Which relatively little-known songs conjure up magic memories for you?

You're obviously younger than me, Gio. I kind of remember it though. "Crockett's Theme" was it?

I loved the Theme music from "Arena" by Brian Eno. A short but mesmerising track, synonomous with the pink neon "Arena" in a floating coke bottle.

Probably not forgotten; My Sweet Lord George Harrison. Still sounds great in 2021. In The Summertime Mungo Jerry probably not played nowadays due  to the lyric "Have a drink, have a drive". Double Barrel Dave & Ansel another classic Collins first reggae song I ever head. OMG these are all 50 years ago.

before my musical time but 'Dreams' by Fleetwood Mac ages incredibly well to my ear...obviously it's not that obscure but I'd end end up just posting some unknown punk/post punk she ite no one had heard of except maybe shiny (king of the music ref)

I like "No Regrets" as well T.D. and Midge Ure's cover is really good also.
An honourable mention for " American Girl" by the brilliant Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers but, for me anyway, there is a standout.

"Don't Fear The Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult. (1976).

That intro just gets me rocking and it's a regular on my playlist.
Still fresh and invigorating after 45 years.
I absolutely love that song and the video is great as well.

some great examples there, Happy Almost anything by Simon & Garfunkel takes me back, Penny Lane and Hey Jude, which I think were the first Beatles songs that I recognised, and remember hearing on the radio as a young child in "real time", as it were, rather than discovering them years later.

The Dragon I saw Golden Earring live in Reading in the early 70's. The drummer smashed up his drums and threw his sticks into the audience the sight of teenage girls fighting to get them was something to behold.
