anyone who is as blunt as that , says it all about the person , its just rude , even if you lose , theres no need for it

As gibmark says, let's keep things civil and not resort to mocking losing bets. No one has managed it since this forum opened so it would hardly be embarrassing for anyone to join the other 100% of people. I think 5 units profit would be deemed a success as anything less isnt really indicative of anything but breaking even would be good going in the real world over 100 bets. At this stage belper is the only one over 5 units up( just) but can he maintain it

I'm not saying every short fav is a lay, but a lot of them are correctly priced so there's no point in backing them. But a lot of people think they can just back the top 20% teams against the bottom 20% teams and win. The bookies aren't that stupid to give away free money like that.
By:
Think of it like this - If you were a mug who just turned 18 and wanted to make his first football bet, what would you do? Back the top 20% against the bottom 20%, and make a 5-team acca with these certs. Surely a winning strategy.

I agree that backing short odds for the sake of it will end in the poor house. All my selections are researched and thought about before placing.
No doubt I'll have a mare tonight as I've been on here defending myself. Anyway, let's see. Bet 50 Austria to beat Moldova 1.075 Bet 51 Israel to beat Faroe Islands 1.26 Bet 52 Italy to beat N Ireland 1.23 Bet 53 Poland to beat Hungary 1.70 Bet 54 Switzerland to beat Bulgaria 1.13 |
By:
5 timer normally , but Poland , Israel , Austria nothing to play for , so watch out for team selections

Backing elite teams to beat crap teams is obviously doomed to fail as Mo will find out/ is finding out but so is Gazes strategy of lay betting short odds. Betfair is a backers market, the lay prices are too high to make long term profit on football- if we could all lay at trade/ bookies prices rather than SPs we would all be millionaires. There's only so much research anyone can do on 22 guys kicking a bag of wind about with all the variables involved

some call it the Beautiful Game

i love the game

We are talking about it from a betting perspective not from enjoying watching it, I have had a season ticket at wolves for 20 years myself so obviously watch it myself. The idea that anyone can predict what will happen in a match with 22 individuals with officials/ VAR looking at all the variable involved is daft as we can see on this thread.

Wolf , do you mind asking you , do you not bet on football then ?..if not what other sports do like ti bet on then ?
By:
I bet on football for a bit of fun without expecting to make long term profit. I think horse racing is more profitable although I prefer football as a sport to watch so always torn between head and heart as my two favourite sports are boxing and football although the former rarely produces top fights these days compared to past eras.

By:
yes Horse Racing is most peoples entry into the ganbling world .......well at least it was when i started in the 60`s ..bunking off school to go to the races
.all pre Betfair of course , much easier to get into now , in other roots today of course ..i like most sports , but football is the best for me ,, so thats what i watch and punt/trade on the most ..Oxford Utd v Man U 1st live game 1968 or was it 69 ? , 1st international same year v Holland 0-0 though but have been hooked ever since |
By:
Not sure about " entry " into the gambling world, Ive been on here for 15 years and hit the premium charge a decade ago. I think there is more skill to predicting horse races contrary to football which seems to be people begging for goals or laughably looking at tables seeing 1 team at the bottom playing one at the top viewing it is a "banker".
By:
I'd say football is the entry sport not horse racing, most football punters are young kids backing the odds on favourites or screaming for overs to come in with cigar pics- very little skill involved at all.
By:
yes form is form though , in horses or footie its hard to ignore it , but as you imply , isnt everything , many a odds on fails to pay at race tracks too
By:
yes your probably right these days footie is more popular , but pre betfair it was horses for sure

next bet (number 14) for me at the moment is a back of West Ham to beat Wolves on Saturday, matched at 2.54 but I'm eying up a couple of others which I'll place nearer the time, depending on price, so it might not end up being number 14 chronologically/coupon wise in the end.
