Early season fixtures usually better watched than predicted, especially when they involve a newly promoted side likely to be running around the pitch like over excited puppies.

Brentford will have been really looking forward to this game but I doubt Arteta has. All the pressure will be on Mikel.

Arsenal should be good enough to beat The Bees but this is football and it is the start of the season. Not one to bet on pre kick-off.

Interesting set of early fixtures for Wolves - Leicester (A), Spurs (H), Man Utd (H), Watford (A), Brentford (H), Southampton (A)

Reckon they could find themselves in a relegation scrap with the likes of Brentford.

In the last five seasons there have been 2,0,2,1, and 2 of the promoted sides going straight back down.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank says his side will not change the attacking style that got them promoted to the Premier League.

He says the highest-scoring side in the Championship last season will "surprise a few people" in the top flight.

Speaking before the Bees' season opener against Arsenal, the Dane said: "We want to attack the Premier League.

"I'm extremely laser-focused on the next game and aiming as high as possible."

When asked if Brentford would try to emulate Leeds' successful return to England's top division last season, Frank said: "I don't know if they are our benchmark, but we are going to attack the league.

"We are a bumble bee - they are not designed to fly, but we were still able to fly into the Premier League and we will constantly do everything we can to keep flying as high as possible."

Frank expects "one of the greatest atmospheres ever" when his side host the Gunners on Friday in what will be their first top-flight game since 1947.

He said: "It is the first game in the top flight for 75 years, I think we will experience something in comparison to Wembley and England v Denmark and Italy."

It will certainly be an interesting game to watch and maybe a few goals at least.

Arsenal got five 1st team players out for injuries/illness tonight. Presumably why 10/11 is available. Arsenal performances about as predictable as Spurs nowadays.

Arsenal spent 50 million quid on some chap called Ben White.  Anyone know anything about him?  Is he the final piece of the jigsaw?

Anyway, I'm thinking Brentford "draw no bet" here at 3.1. Small stake. But it's a toss-up really.

if Arsenal think they are still a big club , anything less than a win here will be an embarrassment

Uba and Laca out thru 'illness'. I don't believe that for a second. Something else going on imo. One of them must have píssed off Aldi Pep

My initial thought was under 2.5 but @ 1.68 that's not a price I'm willing to take. I'll just have a watching brief as we've got Brentford at Selhurst next week. As a neutral though it would be good to see them kick off with a point at least.

Arsenal a great lay here given likely starting personnel. Owners continuing to milk the fans. Can’t remember a season when the top 4 looked so nailed on.

I'd wait to see the lineups and because it's the first game a few minutes at least.

Arsenal may not be weaker without those two as they normally underwhelm and Martinelli or Balogun might be as good or better. Not sure if Martinelli is fit to start as he played the Olympics and is only back a few days. But wouldn't be surprised if Arteta plays Willian as a false 9 either - he has before Cry and doubt he would start Balogun who is untried. Nketiah is injured.

Could be unrest in the Arsenal camp over this. I don't believe it's 'illness', not for both anyway. Could be Lacazette is possibly leaving or they are trying to offload him, perhaps. I don't think Auba likes Arteta and nearly certain he can't stand his tactics or playing out wide.

The last top-flight match that Brentford played in was a 1-0 defeat by Arsenal in May 1947.

Their most recent meeting was in the League Cup third round in September 2018.

Arsenal won 3-1 thanks to two goals from Danny Welbeck and one from Alexandre Lacazette.

Arteta well it reminds me of Brian Kidd, under Sir Alex, a lot of people thought he had more input than he actually had

Arteta basically doesn't know what he is doing and when he is finally sacked, then arsenal will be even further away from the glory days, sad but true.

Arsenal haven't lost a game away from home on the opening day of the season in over two decades.

Their last away defeat on the opening day was against Sunderland in 2000.
Patrick Vieira was sent off by referee Steve Dunn for lashing out at Darren Williams and Sunderland went on to win 1-0.
