So Betfair have restricted my account to a deposit limit of £100 a month. Totally useless to me. I think PP and Flutter want rid of the exchange. I have a deposit limit of£5k a month on the Purple place although I don't need anywhere near that much

Farewell fellow forumites the end is nigh

I doubt my post will be up soon but I have been told to close the account despite have a bet on the Premier League winners market. They will pay me if it wins when I placed the bet to trade

Why the restriction? Any good reason given?

They need t/o on here to make any money.

Wont make much restricting people to £100/week

£100 a month. Reasons are I sold by restaurant for a lot of money so now I don't have a monthly income. Having the money in Stocks doesn't count apparantly. They want the exchange gone

Total joke after 16 years on here. Even tried on Twitter but to no avail. Funny how they will still pay me out if my bet on the Premier League lands. It won't as I placed it to trade

are these affordabilty checks actually the law yet?
or are betfair preparing for the law to be administered and are now just getting rid of the customers they dont want in the interim
By:
barstool
When: 10 Aug 21 19:50
No, they are not the law yet and may never be. A lot of hand wringing, showing intent etc is going on by the firms to prevent the hammer falling. I suppose they think weeding a few out will help their cause. One thing is for sure, if affordability checks come in, they are finished. Most decent people will never allow that indignity to happen to them. Deep down they know it too.

i notice this law has been introduced for october 31st but if you check the games they are still available
gambling commision announcement
From 31 October, the UKGC stated that licensed online gambling operators must remove all slot game technical components or features that relate to:

Making slot spins faster than 2.5 seconds
Autoplay – as players can lost track of their play
Quickspin  functionalities
Gameplay sounds or imagery which give the illusion of a win when the return is in fact equal to, or below, a stake

interesting that the casino still has these features on all slots yet they have not removed on the features yet but are following affordabilty checks that have not actually been brought in by law yet properly

Bookies should never have been allowed casinos/fobts in the first instance. Totally abused their position and set the gambling epidemic ablaze. Now honest Joe punter is being made to pay for it.

yes barstool betfair used to have a lucrative vip programme everyone loves freebies and being looked after now they have changed the name to priority dpt and even though vips win but pay more commision they receive diddly because of this politically correct area with gambling that has now occurred
as you say the casinos and taking advantage of people playing games longterm no one wins has caused this

How's liquidity with inplay football markets at the purple place nowadays?
Just wondering.
By:

When: 11 Aug 21 14:32
Wouldn't have thought that BF want the exchange gone, at the moment, and despite the apparent demise, indifference by the exchange users still see people sticking with it rather than moving to purple.

If the BF exchange disappeared, that would surely be the kick up the ar5e that we all need because if you want to play on the exchange then BF would have made the choice for us.

There would finally be that mass migration and presumably the purple liquidity would improve overnight, BF would lose a lot of customers forever.

I don't have any complaints with bf duffy and am  not looking to leave but as you say, if the exchange [did] shut up shop  most bf'ers would  go purple I would think.
Would be shame imo but there you go.

I'm a two quid merchant so this is above my pay grade, but if you are doing ok on betfair why would you want to deposit 5k a month ?
By:
duffy
When: 11 Aug 21 15:00
You could win 5k and withdraw it, then deposit 500 the next week and they'd want to know where it came from...bonkers.

They have created a situation where you feel pressurized into not withdrawing money from a betting account.

How's that for protecting potential vulnerable bettors LaughCrazy

There has been enough warning about this.  Don't withdraw until you have enough to cover a bad downturn and then you'll have no problem.  It's annoying but there's nothing else to do.

I'm a two-quider like corky and totally agree with dave1357 but then, being a two-quider, what is there to withdraw? Blush

I've said for months I'm done once they bring that rubbish in

This country is done full stop, can't even lose £100 a month without big daddy state telling you you've been naughty

Just feck off Plain

Was this on the exchange you were limited to, snooze?

If 98% of people on here are losers (I question that figure) and  I'd imagine a large percentage lose in excess of £50 a week, then the £100 deposit limit will surely mean a huge dent in Betfair's and presumably other bookies profits long term. I can't believe they'll allow this to happen so I think it's hot air, a pre-emptive strike to hope the GC come down favourably on a long term solution. Presumably the alternative for the punter is £100 a month in mutliple bookies accounts to get their fix. Big Brother surely won't have access to that info too?

£100 a month,so they will allow you £3.22 a day ,what happens if you lose the £100 on day one,how can you chase if they do not let you deposit more .And how come the whale's can slap £100,000 on an even money shot.Do the whale's have to deposit £100 a month for 84 years before they can place their 100 grand bet.Confused

I'm in the why do you need to deposit camp. Just keep a working balance in the account permanently, I just don't see the need to withdraw

As an example- there's already almost  a million bet on the Brentford/ Arsenal game tonight hours before ko. That's almost 500k matched. With commission along these lines on football & all the money matched on horse racing why in hull would PP want to close the exchange. Restricting the OP makes absolutely no sense to me other than possibly he is over using data in relation to his betting pattern or for some other issue with the rules. BF might upset customers, although I must say recently I had to use live chat & the issue was settled very quickly. Why would BF turn away customers as it takes commission regardless of result! None of this adds up or makes sense to me.

don't these restrictions affect both the sportsbook and the exchange?

is the PP site doing the same thing?

The opening poster may have a winning account showing profit, fair play to him if he has.
my question is ,if he is clever enough to win money on betfair he should be clever enough to win and still show a loss in his account.ALL BOOKIES AND EXCHANGES DON'T WANT WINNERS ,THEY WANT MUGS.SUCH IS LIFE NOWADAYS.

When BF operates on a commission basis, would someone of long standing on hear please explain why it should matter to them who wins & who loses. I'm knew hear & I just don't understand! For every bet taken on BF there is 1 winner & 1 loser!

I HAVE A BETTER QUESTION,why should a punter care what company he bets with?,i know betfair are best for prices, but profit is profit, and any gambler should not care who pays him out his profits.and i doubt very seriously that Betfair care who they pay out, as long as THEY get THEIR share of the profit.Grin

There you go Mr Brassneck-the last part of your posting agrees with me. It must be true because your a long standing leg end on BetFair & your opinion is valued throughout your postings.

All of this is down to an overly enthusiastic pre-emptive implementation of regulations that may never see the light of day.
Quite why this approach is being taken, I could not say. What I can say, however, is that is smells like poor leadership.

It is not the law, it is a bit like a publican limiting his customers to say 5 pints a month, and if you drink them in one day you can't come back for a month. A well thought out business model.
By:
Lee Ho Fooks
When: 13 Aug 21 19:35
Their business model is puzzling, Betfair's like a rudderless ship and their way forward makes no sense to me in many respects (but that's not always difficult). Here's a recent example that I can't match OP's post with    "Minimum Stake reduced for EURO (€) only customers from €2 to €1"

Where's the logic in it all?
By:
Giuseppe
When: 13 Aug 21 19:40
suits me to be honest

often do draw no bet with 1 euro stakes

i'm not a high roller like you lee
By:

When: 13 Aug 21 19:48
You noticed the trail of 50's that were dropping out of my pocket as I walked in I see. You reduce minimum stake to 1 euro (£1 next?) hoping, I presume, that more will have an interest in an event then you restrict deposit limits - makes no sense to me at allConfused

When: 14 Aug 21 22:29
There have been umpteen threads on this, 90%+ of regular sports gamblers lose less than £100 a month.  And I suppose a reasonable amount of those losing more than that will be able to prove they can afford it.  So the industry isn't that bothered if it gets the politicians off their backs and still allows them to make a crust.
By:
----you-have-to-laugh---
When: 14 Aug 21 23:15
Is it a deposit limit, or a loss limit?

If you leave cash in account you dont
need to deposit.

If you remove winnings and steak, you
need to deposit again.

Might be in profit, but cannot
deposit until next month.

If it's losses then fair enough,
in many ways, but why should
you have to prove to gambling
company?

Surely your bank should be
doing that anyway.

Obviously losing big on the exchange is no big gain for the exchange but if somebody [somewhere] loses big ..... that's the issue here.
Is that somebody jeopardizing the paying of bills? The providing of food for themselves and perhaps a young family? A roof over their heads even?
The best way forward , to my mind, is put a limit on losses.
A couple of grand even, isn't going to render someone homeless is it?
Then have that loss set alarm-bell ringing and the loser blocked from opening another a/c.
How difficult would [that] be?
By:
G Hall
When: 15 Aug 21 12:44
Too difficult for betfair.
By:

you see some guys back horses and football teams every day,and their normal bet might be £2 win,£5 win and £10 win.
Then some day the same account holder Deposits £1000 and wacks the full grand on a 9/4 shot that happens to win by 10 length's.
If you put two + two together you can see what is happening, and a gambling company would have to put a Deposit limit on the account to stop this carry on.
"i am not saying this was what the opening poster done(his account may have showed up this style of betting,or the account was mistaken for another account) .but it is clearly understood ,if a guy who backs in small bets suddenly lobs a grand on a horse with a bookie or gambling company and it wins,The gambling company will limit the punters bets believing that the bet is being placed for someone else.
