Not forgetting with all the stop/start/stop again, the game was nearly as long as an nfl match

It is a stupid rule.

Why should the defence get the advantage of holding up play, getting all their players back and building a wall after they have committed a foul disadvantaging the attacking team?

Quick free kick chances ar usually allowed by the better standard refs, when I played a good ref would tell both sides before ko that he'd try and let the game flow, allow quick free kicks etc. And tell the goalies to be aware of this.

Cameras everywhere, pundits galore and VAR, are all highlighting just how many mistakes refs and linesmen make in a match. BUT, we used to accept it, admittedly we didn't know about most of them(like the fingernail offsides etc), and moved on. All the post match talk on every game is now about right/wrong decisions and not about the football. A disaster for genuine football fans. Is it too late to go back?

Very true and most of these “ experts “ don’t even ‘ know the laws of the game!

Ref made a mistake, and somehow managed to correct himself.

Had he allowed the goal, it would then be ruled out for offside.

I bet this so called injury lasts at least 2 weeks as well craftily invented by PGMOL so they are not seen to be suspending him for incompetence Laugh

To be fair i was at the game and it was the first time in a while where it felt like there was an atmosphere and not completely sterile due to the lack of fans.
That free kick incident lit up the whole stadium and granted there were only about 30-40 of us in the press box but it was great. Both benches going nuts, Players kicking off,  the commentators arguing as to why it was/wasn't a goal. It was almost like being a proper match day experience :)
