cancel your direct debit. They will not sue you. And they will take you back in a heartbeat once the footy resumes as they will all lose money from this crisis.

long term if this crisis continues they will lose lots of customers if there is no live sport so they need to address it

They will, had a legal battle for 2 years with BT over breaking contract

know lots of people that always cancel by direct debit usually at the end of the football season and nothing ever happens, they can't chase hundreds of thousands if not millions and it would be give a lot of bad publicity if they did, and even if they did, let them chase you, people do the same with lots of things such as gym contracts and any other direct debit subscriptions.

Even if they did spend more that your contract is worth on court fees, and for such a small amount x thousands/millions of cases, you still stand a good chance given the situation, you paid for sports, they longer offer sports.

Maybe Wolf but in circumstances where there will be mass cancellations and they are already losing a loads in ad revenue, I doubt they are going to throw good money after bad and chase people for relatively small amounts. Did you cancel your entire bundle contract or just the sports package when they chased you?

I negotiated a Sky Sports and Cinema package for £26/month two years or so ago to come back with Sky after they kept calling and offering me new deals. (I had left Sky a year before that when the price had reached £70+/month, so much for loyalty eh?). My subscription had crept up to £36 this year, which I was ok with but nonetheless it was on that upward curve again.

Then on the 2nd March 2020 they unexpectedly put my subsciption for this package up to £64/month!!!!!!!!!! The cheek of it. I rang up from work to cancel and was given the run around which included three 20+ min waits while they 'put me through' despite me telling then all I wanted to do was cancel my subscription. Finally they accepted cancellation of my subscription (coming into effect on the 2nd April), not before though telling me that the best deal they could offer me to stay on the same Sports and Cinema package was now £45/month!!! Which is still £9 more than the £36/month I had been paying prior to March!!!

I would advise anyone with a long term Sky subscription to cancel with immediate effect (not just the DD). Sky treat their loyal long term customers with utter disdain and contempt. Routinely putting up subscriptions for those in the keep net several times a year well in excess of inflation until you are paying annual subscriptions exceeding £1k/year.

I used to love Sky sports, but over the years they have lost Champions League, Spanish Footie, some cricket and a host of other live coverage. Rather than in the past there was something of interest if I wanted to watch live sport (on Sky Sports 1,2 or 3) these days there is rarely anything I want to watch, even though they have all these channels. Showing mainly re-runs or recordings of past events.

Now that there is no live footie for the foreseeable on Sky, this is surely the final nail in the coffin for all those on high subscriptions.

Subscriptions are being cancelled in their droves, and considering so much is paid for so little, who can blame them?

I had a similar experience with my subscription being put up which seems to be a common theme around this time of the year so after over 30 minutes on the phone I eventually got through to an advisor letting her know I was cancelling due to basically doubling my package. I looked at the sky home page and I was paying 35% more than a new customer for the same service ffs... as if as a loyal customer I will pay more than some random new subscriber. Anyway after what seemed an eternity of haggling she agreed to a new deal which was just about acceptable yet informed me there would be an " administration charge " added to my next bill. As I was ready to leave I basically told her either put me on what a new subscriber would be on with no charge added or I will cancel then and there- she cancelled the charge offering me further discounts. It's basically like a Tunisian market stall haggling and negotiating ever year with the result depending on who you speak to. If you can't get an acceptable deal , its best to put the phone down and ring back for another pot luck go with another " advisor" but for the elderly etc its completely out of order offering different rates for different people.

Well they took me to court , I defended the case and won but it was hassle and potentially disastrous if I had lost for my credit files. It went on for close to three years thinking about it

I subscribed to an 18 month contract but cancelled it a few months in but with whats going on with this virus I think the circumstances are different as you say. This was in 2016

I agree but the niggle is if you are also tied in with BB, phone deals and they cut you off completely leaving you with no internet, sorting out new suppliers at the moment would be a potential pain in the ar5e.

BT are paying £400 million pounds a year for Champions League and Europa rights, if people do cancel I cannot see them chasing millions of people considering those millions are within their rights considering they can simply argue that was the main reason they signed up, and it would create so much bad publicity if they tried going after so many, and it wouldn't be in their interest to target small numbers either if they've lost millions of other customers, they must be really worried.

It does make u feel that way Coachbuster. The way that loyal customers in their keep net are treated is unbelievable.

I too wish the bubble bursts and Sky and the like go out of business.

So long as the the sheep keep towing the line and paying their £1k+/year subscriptions though this seems highly unlikely...............

I caught some of the sports news on the BBC this morning saying the premiere league clubs will have to give back the money to sky if they dont play the games.

It would not surprise me in the slightest if sky then continued to hold customers to pay for the service as well.

I havn't paid the scrotes a penny for many a year after they took 2 payments one month and I went to the ombudsman with all the evidence who agreed with me.
By:

that's the trouble pushkin .

yes dusty ,i do thinks clubs should pay Sky back in fairness and Sky in turn pay the customers ..as it stands some of the clubs are every bit out to rob the fans /watchers too .

they can't hold people to their contracts if people all cancel en-maase, and people are within their rights to considering they are no longer offering the sport that they paid for, it may not be Sky's fault but that's by the by.

Too much top level sport has been lost from Terrestrial TV to subscription based TV over the years, Formula 1, Boxing and Champions League football all used to be on free to air tv, it's may be ok for Football but it's harder for sports like F1 and Boxing to grow when they're not put in front of people's faces. Even the Europa League, people used to laugh at clubs playing on Channel 5, now it's cool because it's on BT, which makes no sense.

If it is dambuster so be it.

The FA, UEFA, FIFA etc. will have to finish season 19/20 somehow, else they will be sued by those missing out, the likes of WBA, Leeds United, the other United to name but a few.

I saw an article today that Sky and BT Sport are not going to reduce the subscriptions for their subscribers. Even though the vast majority of the subscribers have taken out their subscriptions on the basis that they would see live sport.

And there now hardly any live sport on TV, save for the likes of darts, badminton, dominoes and tiddly winks..........................

It sure is Angoose, Sky and BT paid such premium price for live footie, that has driven the excessive wage demands of ever greedier players, and their even more greedy agents. As peabrain might have said if he was still around, a case of chickens coming home to roost LaughLaughLaugh

I wouldn't blame any SKY or BT Sports subscriber if they cancelled their subscription and DD even if in their contracted period. They are not getting what they paid for and it's gonna be a long time before they do.

it is correct i got the email on sunday, £2/month from 1 april for me. i am not in contract and was prepared to hold on for a bit but i just rung them up and cancelled. about 20 minutes on hold, the lady in scotland was good. i cancelled bt as well, also not in contract there.

I suspect the trickle of subscribers cancelling subscriptions will turn into a torrent once reality sinks in about how much they are paying SKY and BT Sport -typically around £1k/year for those in the keep net - now they are no longer getting any real live sport for the forseeable.

After waiting for nearly an hour to cancel my BT Sport I ended up keeping it. I was paying about £42 a month for internet and sport now paying £34 for both on a two year contract. Apparently costs now only go up inline with inflation.

Is it true that Sky are now offering to suspend subscriptions for Sky Sports, or is that just in Ireland?  I can't get through on the phone and can't find an email address.  I tried to do it online via "manage my account", but that didn't work.

Ring BT and tell them you're doing a stretch for bashing the Sky offices up when they wouldn't let you out of your contract and vice versa for Sky Crazy

If there is no sports coverage then people may find other things to interest them and when it comes to renewing they'll say no.

Sky have confirmed that paying customers can pause their Sky Sports subscriptions during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The channels will have reduced sports coverage over the coming months with almost all sporting events currently cancelled or postponed, including the Premier League and Football League.

Here's my report, I was paying about £100 for everything  all tv, brooadband line rental, the lot, but that was a deal itself, just noticed that the deal ended and they bumped it up to 140.

Phoned them up and after a few minutes, the bird said they could only knock 10 off, but I can put you through to someone else which she did.

Hour later got through to Scotland and the chap (Michael)knocked it back down to £97 for 18 months, which includes an increase to the broadband speed and for the first 3 months sky sports free which brings me down to 75 for the first 3 months.

Very happy with that.
