There was a thread about profit & loss and a lot of people thought making a profit betting on football was difficult. Although I gave up betting when I retired this is how I used to do it.

 Early season form is very hard to predict but City & Liverpool are using last season's cores so they should have no trouble at the weekend against Norwich & West Ham. Having said that Norwich's players will be relishing their return to the PL so Liverpool at 1.16 is a little too much like picking up pennies from in front of a steamroller for me. City at 1.29 seems a fair enough price for a team determined to retain their title against a side who will sorely miss Arnautovic up front. Are City "using last season's cores" in the opening match? Is Aguero starting? Fernandinho is back in training but will he play or Rodri? I couldn't tell you which central defenders will start. De Bruyne is back so it won't be the same midfield as last season, assuming he starts. Left back I expect Zinchenko, but Angelino wouldn't surprise me.

A stroll in the park for City today but I think next week against a Spurs set up by Pochettino it will be much much harder for them so I'm not going to take the 1.37 on offer.

On Saturday I spent a dreadful afternoon watching Crawley beat Salford. Salford were useless. Always beaten to the loose ball, inept at passing and toothless in the final third.

I think Leeds will field some of their new signings and u23 players.
Having said that the Salford I watched on Saturday couldn't beat the Red Lion. I was shocked at how piss-poor they were. It's not like Crawley are a top League 2 side. |

if you'd gone for liverpool to lift the trophy, rather than the match odds win, your bet would have won. it is interesting that you were more cautious with city in the community shield. it struck me at the time that you were giving yourself the extra insurance of them needing penalties for quite a drop in potential returns from the bet.
