very soft pen which wouldnt have been given had Salah not crumpled..depends on your view of the modern game overall whether you think he's 'entitled' to crumple or not...personally feel you need to be fouled to a greater extent than that to have 'earnt' a pen

If Ashley Young had dived like that they'd be calls for his manager to have a word with him.
BTW it's called cheating. |

Dermot Gallagher’s view:
DERMOT SAYS: I thought it was a penalty - he [Dummett] caught him by the arm and there was enough there. At the speed people move, you do not need much… (to go over). His reaction is that he almost gives upon the decision, like 'why have I done that?' There were some reports today claiming Salah could face retrospective disciplinary action from The FA similar to that handed down to Everton's Oumar Niasse and West Ham's Manuel Lanzini last season. However, Gallagher explains why those two cases are different. "He [Niasse] is going forward and actually initiates the contact, whereas with the Dummett and Salah one, Dummett takes him from behind," says the former top-flight official. "Whereas Niasse sees the leg and then goes into it. |

dont think even the mighty, ahem, Dermot Gallagher is going to change the way i view the game after 40-odd years!
|
|
By:
Just adding it as a counter to Halsey saying it was cheating. Shows how even the refs see things differently.
|
|
By:
At the speed people move, you do not need much… (to go over)
is Dermot actually saying Salah went down solely cos of the contact, cos that's naive in extreme if so |

The var guys wouldve knock it back whilst munching on their popcorn
fa best to give into their p1ss poor penalty claims so liverpool can win their 1 in 29....before var is impelemented. |

If you are behind someone and you grab at their arm just like if you do it anywhere on the pitch it’s a foul doesn’t matter if the player goes down or not
A week ago salah was caught down the Achilles and stayed up and scored probably saved the opponent from a yellow card as I said pointless thread |

By:
Donny. You are taking this badly
![]() |
|
By:
im not taking it badly, my view can be seen in real time on newcastle thread
i am enjoying seeing liverpool fans condoning cheating |
|
By:
Liverpool have had loads of soft penalties against us. And in actual fact, that was the first penalty at Anfield since the first game LAST season. Any suggestion the refs give us these often is laughable.
|
|
By:
Are people not allowed a different opinion then Donny? Is it ‘condoning cheating’ just because they see it differently to you?
It’s a very naive and silly challenge. |
|
By:
thats not the point in question though
that seems to be an admission you know it was cheating but others cheat so its ok you now got one in your favour why not come out and say that instead of defending cheating and saying others are taking it badly |
|
By:
Eh? That’s not my point at all. He didn’t cheat imo. Cheating is when you go down under no contact.
|
|
By:
The facts are simple. Salah is past Dummett. And he knows it. He tries to pull him back to stop him. However minimal the pull was, he still did it. Or are you disputing the fact he pulls him?
|
|
By:
you seem desperate to defend his cheating
you will see it differently when it goes against you thats why its so funny |
|
By:
You can’t even answer my question?
It’s gone against us plenty of times before. I’d be honest enough to say the defender shouldn’t give the ref the option. Not constantly whinge about cheating. |
|
By:
did he pull him with sufficient force to cause the reaction to the force applied?
or did salah cheat? do i need answer your question again, or can you not understand that salah cheated and liverpool fans are defending him? |
|
By:
He pulled him sufficiently to stop him getting away. He then makes the most of it and goes down. If your player did it, I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t be calling them a cheat.
I went with two Newcastle fans yesterday and both thought they couldn’t argue with it, even if he went down too easily. It’s obviously soft. But he shouldn’t be pulling players back in the box. It’s never going to be a question of ‘how hard did he pull him’.... just ‘did he pull him’. |
|
By:
if he isnt strong enough to brush off that contact without instantly choosing to go into tom daley
mode then he would be in some care home and not cheating at anfield |
|
By:
Donny....you are losing this badly, you should really give this up.
|

so badly the reserves are taking over, lol

When Oumar Niasse became the first player to be banned for simulation last season,
the FA said: 'The arching of the back and collapsing of both legs, were simply not consistent with the amount of force exerted upon him by Dann and in exaggerating the effect of the contact made, Niasse deceived the ref and this led to a penalty being awarded.' I don't see much difference between Niasse's reaction and Salah's. |
|
By:
Niasse initiated the contact Salah didn’t
That’s the difference that you don’t see |
|
By:
Of course the bin dippers are going to excuse Salah's cheating. History has shown they will excuse any behaviour rather than face facts. It's in their DNA and one of the reasons people shy away from Scousers.

Oh dear there’s me trying to have an intelligent discussion about the simulation laws
|
|
By:
if initiation of contact was the only standard, why would they make
the statement in tts quote above? |
|
By:
nice to see many feeding the scousers at christmas time
|
|
By:
Probably isn't the only standard, but it's a pretty clear tactic of late. Suarez was an absolute master at it to be fair. But you'll see at least one incident per game where the attacker will deliberately run into, across or dangle a leg back trying to create some contact.
As for cheating, again it happens all the time. All those professional fouls high up to stop a break away. The shirt pulling at corners. Game is absolutely full of small scale cheating. As for Salah, he undoubtedly made a meal of it but Dummett's an absolute fool for doing what he did. Not sure there's a striker around who'd stay up given the same circumstances. Given Salah stayed on his feet after Cook deliberately raked his studs down his achilles when running on goal it's clear he's not a serial conman. Just think if you put 100 players in Salah's situation yesterday then you'd get 100 players hitting the deck. |
|
By:
Dermot Gallagher analysed it on ref watch on sky sports
It isn’t the only standard I was making the point that the Niasse incident was different No one can argue that the defender initiated the contact I always blame the poor defending |
