Imagine what life would be like under Sir Alex now. Probably have Kane, Anderson, Guimares and purring for a new season as joint outright favs going toe to toe with the Gunners, like the glory days.

Id love to bring some positivity to this page to balance out some of the comments Laugh

However, I can't see past Arsenal for the title again this season. I do think they might get off to a slow start with some after effects of the World Cup and lots of matches last season. There are too many doubts or questions about all the other possible contenders, mainly due to new or recently appointed managers.

Could actually see us finishing 2nd or 3rd again, purely down to those doubts about those around us (similar to last season), then again it wouldn't be a surprise if we were anywhere down to 7th or 8th place, especially if the squad stays as it is.

By the way, Bruno will not be going anywhere this summer, especially not at the prices mentioned Crazy Maybe while Amorim was in charge and playing him deeper but no way this summer while Carrick is there.

Both The Athletic and Fabrizio Romano (credible sources) suggesting a deal for Carlos Baleba is pretty close...

not too sure how to feel about that as he was pretty average last season and had injury issues..
By:

Baleba is not worth anything like £65m.

Smacks of desperation imho.

Was £100m last season.

Looked a good player but a year on things change. Get him back there and it's a bargain.

Big season for man utd, and maybe high expectations elsewhere take a little
of the pressure off Carrick.

How many midfielders is Carrick going to play?

If you're playing CL, ideally you want 2 players for each position to allow for injuries and rotation..

Santos, Tielemans, Fernandes, Mainoo, (Baleba), Mount, younger players as cover for an injury crisis and maybe get some domestic cup action..

You'll need 7 or 8 in a season

These 6s burn out rapidly with the work they get through.

What United need is someone who terrifies defences and scores 30+ Premier League goals a season.

Until that man arrives United will never challenge for the league or CL.

Arsenal just won the league with a top goal scorer getting 14, so I'm not sure it's really the case anymore...handy if you do of course but you expect more goals from wide attacking players and number 10's than in previous eras..
By:
----you-have-to-laugh---
When: 19 Aug 26 13:40
Citeh struggling with one that tops 30.

Games moved on and 30 goal man needs to press or else he gets carried, and if team
can't carry him, then they don't win.

I don't see a single 30 goal striker that presses

Spain won World Cup... Who is their striker?
By:
----you-have-to-laugh---
When: 19 Aug 26 13:43
Not saying it can't be done, just that the modern game perfect striker is yet to emerge

30 goals whilst leading the press...

I definitely think it prudent to buy a centre forward as Manchester United, purported by some to be the biggest club in the world currently do not have one, let alone two or three, that is currently playing footballCrazy

Sesko's close to returning (training now) but I think Carrick is pretty comfortable with either Mbuemo or Cunha playing as a non-conventional 9...they probably need to shift Zirkzee if they are bring in anyone else, which whilst there's been some interest from Italy, seems to be mainly of the dreaded loan variety..
By:
----you-have-to-laugh---
When: 19 Aug 26 13:56
You have sesko..

Playing Cunha might be a problem too as he doesn't work that hard.

Having 9 out fielders carry a striker is an option, but a team playing 10 and no carry
will have an advantage so long as they share scoring burden.
By:
duffy
When: 19 Aug 26 14:18
Sesko has been injured and not playing and as he's the size of an artic he'll probably be at full match sharpness in about two months, you don't want Cunha or Mbuemo playing there as however capable they might be you lose them running and breaking games open from deeper which is their real strength and in games where we are facing a low block I want aproper 9 that has the instinct to play the role in tight spaces.
By:

When: 19 Aug 26 14:20
I think it's on their to do list but a LB to cover and ideally compete or surpass Shaw is probably next priority..

Not that many teams that have a genuine '9' and a reserve genuine 9 these days..
By:

City don't really have an obvs cover for Haaland and Havertz @ Arsenal isn't an authentic striker by any stretch..

Hull away on opening day of the season feels a bit tricky (newly promoted team cup tie atmosphere) but if you can't beat Ipswich @ OT it could be a very long season..

tbh it's just textbook responses to inane questions I'd imagine..

where are we finishing this season ?

I'm thinking 5th or 6th tbh...

flattered by 3rd last season..(I went for 7th last season though that was on the assumption the Portuguese Messiah was at least doing the majority of the season)  - the business to this point has been 'ok' - I'm not sure we're significantly better, CL demands on top...would be delighted with 3rd or 4th tbh..

I was very hopeful of a top 6 last year, can't see us topping last year, I think 4th to 6th will be us, Liverpool and Spurs in any order.

The Prem as a league was pretty cr4p last season hence our 3rd position.

Manchester United have agreed a £70m deal for Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba.

The deal for Baleba is worth £65m + £5m in add-ons.

Brighton have inserted a sell-on clause within the deal as well.

Baleba is expected to sign a five-year-contract with Manchester United and will undergo his medical in the next 24 hours.

By:

When: 21 Aug 26 23:33
I've posted previously that I hoped we wouldn't sign Baleba, from what I've seen there must be better options out there, although most of those viewings were from last season. Obviously I hope to be wrong on this one.

At least we seem to have signed 3 midfielders who seem to have been chosen for their specific qualities rather than just buying who is available and then working out how to fit them in. A physical/mobile/ground covering midfielder was a must to complement Mainoo, Santos and Tielemans.

These 11 players are not a team.
By:

When: 22 Aug 26 13:15
Never mind about not being able to defend a set piece, the biggest problem that is glaringly obvious is that Bruno is too far forward, they think that Tielemans can operate in the deeper role that Bruno normally works in and can do that job, Bruno is practically a centre forward, he should be playing where Tielemans is and the bargain 35 million man shouldn't be out there.
