so the MacAllister deal is done -  initial £35m with add ons -  great value
Apparently he's a top bloke and you can see from the messages from Brighton how respected he was
still only 24 so plenty to be excited about
Wanted to come to Liverpool based on the conversation with Klopp on how he would be used in the team - similar to how he is used for Argentina on the left more attacking role

Hopefully more to come

I see klarna bank asked John Henry on twitter if he wanted to apply for a buy now pay later loan off them, talk about getting toasted. They know he won't spend like he should on a club that's had good success last 7 years or so, too busy doing the house up to make more money in the sale. They've had a great ride on klopp and transfer crew, time they paid them back in hard  cash to spend, but I doubt it. We're back in home bargains.

We've been cute in the transfer market in recent times, just think it would be good if we had the odd marquee signing, but we clearly can't compete for them players, but Fabricio is confident we're getting the Hungarian lad from Leipzig for 70m, but we'll see, be happy if we sign 3. two decent additions
Report The Dragon July 21, 2023 9:51 AM BST
Jurgen Klopp failed to convince Jordan Henderson to stay at Liverpool after making a ‘last-ditch plea’.

Henderson is closing in on a mind-boggling £12million move to Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ettifaq, where he will reunite with Reds legend Steven Gerrard.

Despite being someone who has proudly worn the rainbow armband as Liverpool captain and used his position to speak up for LGBT+ rights, the England midfielder has decided to tarnish his reputation as one of the good guys by moving to a country where homosexuality is illegal and punishable by death.

His Liverpool salary is believed to be worth around £10m per year (the poor sod) and in Saudi Arabia, he will earn a reported £36m every 12 months.

Reds boss Klopp was understandably reluctant to lose his captain in a summer where he is completely remodeling his midfield.
Henderson has been at Anfield since July 2011 and became club captain four years later following Gerrard’s departure.

Discussing the 33-year-old’s impending move to Al-Ettifaq, Klopp said: “In the end, all of these decisions are made by me.

“And because I respect the players a lot, it’s usually with consent. It was in this case, and it is all fine.”

Sad to see him go = money talks
Report The Dragon July 27, 2023 8:56 AM BST
Henderson has confirmes his departure.

Sad to see him go and wish he had fulfilled the final two years of his contract - definite loss for us and for a derisory 12 m.

Surely the club could have done more to keep him?
Report PorcupineorPineapple July 27, 2023 9:04 AM BST
His next place of work is always going to leave a bad taste after all he's said and done.

But at the same time he's been one of our greats. A better captain than Gerrard imo, though not as a player obvs. But it's clear he's got a bit of an ego. Should really have quit international footy a couple of years ago as he was already struggling to see a season out. Wasn't given assurances that he'd be the first name on the sheet and so has gone to play in a tinpot league instead. After losing Firmino and Keita for nothing (and plenty before them) it's probably good to be getting a decent wedge in for him and just after buying two players who would see him relegated to the bench.

Alongside many others, right now I feel a bit of bitterness about his departure, but in time I'm sure he'll be welcomed back and be treated with the respect his acheivements deserve.
Report The Dragon July 27, 2023 9:08 AM BST
Bitter taste is about right PP

He would have defo added to the squad if he stayed as well as brining on some of the new and less well established players.

Sold out for the dosh at the end of the day but hey ho he was a good servant for the club and enjoyed some fanatastic success.

lets hope our next captain equals or betters that success.
Report PorcupineorPineapple July 27, 2023 9:22 AM BST
I always wanted to keep him after losing Firmino and Milner in the same window. That's a lot of experience and leadership out of the club in one go. He'd probably not be a first teamer but his influence on the training ground and in the dressing room would still be huge. Just got to get on with it though and hope the likes of Robertson and Trent have picked up enough and are ready to be the leaders now.

Trent for captain btw.
Report vidou July 27, 2023 10:28 AM BST
One thing for sure the Saudis have really f*kkd up our preparation - now clubs are gonna be asking an extra 10 or 20m premium on the likes of Lavia. A lot of experience has gone in one month and Jurgen's preparation and plans are needing a lot of rethinking.

Supposed to be a bit disruptive behind the scenes and not the best trainer either. Got a good fee for him and as long as we get a good replacement in then we should be ok.

Jurgen Klopp has brilliant attackers, Alexis Mac Allister and Dom Szoboszlai are exciting buys, but it is nowhere near enough. Now, we're rushing to get overpriced players who will not get the benefit of the pre-season to acclimatise.

Romeo Lavia may well end up at Anfield, but he's 19. How can he replace a legendary skipper and a Brazilian who, while on the decline, was once the best anchorman in the business?

Temporary sporting director Jorg Schmadtke is doing his work from his laptop in Ibiza, while our only two buys were sorted by his predecessor Julian Ward.

What's the plan? It increasingly feels like there is not one. We obviously took the £52m in total for Henderson and Fabinho without incomers lined up. That is poor, from a club who were once unbeatable in the transfer market.

Now, we are risking wasting the final few elite years of Alisson, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah's careers. And the biggest problem will be trying to replace those superstars in the next few summers.

Liverpool fans are angry, and rightly so.

They might be in a good position re FFP but giving such long contracts is storing up problems for the future, If a player falls out of favour after a couple of seasons or a new manager doesnt want them then how the heck can they move them on to another club if they've got 6 years left on their contract when most clubs will offer 3 or 4 years.

Back from hols so catching up.

One conspiracy theory in my head that I can't believe the anti-FSG mob haven't picked up re Caicedo.

Maybe we always knew he wouldn't join us. Spoke to him enough times and his mind was made up. So our "bid" was done in the knowledge it would never be acted upon.

But imagine we did have that money and were prepared to spend it. Someone tell me agin then why we thought Bellingham was out of our price range. You've literally got the new Gazza/Zidane there and he's gone for less than the new Hamann. If we could spend that money why didn't we get the far better player. Oh, and for similar fees Rice is ten times the player Caicedo is.

The fee for Caicedo was clearly nonsense. You just can't pay that much for someone who'd play such a limited role. You just can't.

I think we still need to work slightly on our system. Trent is asked to leave the right wing but no-one is really covering it. There was a vid of Klopp talking to the new guy and telling him the team is too offensive. He's playing Gakpo in midfield ffs. Of course we're offensive. I'd like to see us try Gomez somewhere: either as a RB or DM. I think he could do it and add some better balance. At least till Thiago and Bajcetic get fit.
Report Latalomne August 22, 2023 9:16 AM BST
Did we have the money before getting in the unexpected circa £50m for Fab and Hendo?

Well I enjoyed that a lot. Best way to win. Trent's booking was ridiculous in that it was a clear foul by Gordon. Ref bottled the second one as he knew he'd gotten the first so wrong. Meanwhile their players had been watching Fernandinho clips all week and just doing cynical fouls all over the shop safe in the knowledge the ref wouldn't touch them.

Thought Howe lost it when he subbed off Gordon, Isak and Tonali at the same time. Basically said he thought the game was won and he was resting them for challenges ahead. Felt then that we'd get back into it. To win it though was great. Echoes of Owen at Wembley in 02.

Now if Darwin could bother learning some English and listening to tactical instructions we'd have a hell of a player.

Liverpool have agreed a deal worth £34.3m (40m euros) to sign midfielder Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich.

The 21-year-old Netherlands international joined the German champions from Ajax last summer but has struggled for first-team football.

Gravenberch has made just one substitute appearance this season.

Liverpool have been linked with him for much of the summer and will now aim to conclude a deal before Friday's transfer deadline.

The Reds have already signed Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo this summer in a refresh of their midfield.

Key midfielders Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have left Anfield to join Saudi Arabian clubs, while James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also departed on free transfers.

Gravenberch came through the Ajax academy and made his debut for the club in September 2018 against PSV Eindhoven.

In all, the box-to-box midfielder played 103 matches for the Dutch club, scoring 12 goals, before joining Bayern for an initial 18.5m euros.

Last season he started just three games in his 24 Bundesliga outings for Bayern, and made his one appearance this season as a late substitute in a 3-1 win against Augsburg on Sunday.

I'm quite excited for Grav, though it's probably more based on him being a star of my FM team than anything else!

But I don't get the downsides. Ok, he hasn't had a great year at Bayern but there've been loads of great signings in that profile. Weren't both Gini and Robbo relegated when we bought them. Thierry Henry flopped in Italy before Arsenal rescued him. He did ok.

So yeah, I don't think it really reflects his ability or potential.

I just hope it's properly scouted etc from our side. I'm still very nervous about Klopp getting more rein on transfers and that Jorg guy seems to have been a complete waste of time. To be fair, the signings so far have been good. MacAllister is a snip and Szobo looks a great player. This does feel a bit of a Pep signing, with him joining VVD and Gakpo.

And again, I'm not overly worried about the DM situation right now. I think McAllister can play there for one thing, and it's not an overly stylised position; essentially one midfielder has to sit back, read the game and be ready to spring if danger looms. The fees being bandied around for DM's have been utterly ridiculous and I'm glad we haven't joined that party.

I'd still like us to get a CB though. They're already dropping and we're clearly a man short there.

Brutal decisions yesterday - the ref and VAR got just about every major decision totally wrong. How can they be so incompetent? Totally f uck up your job and you'll get sacked but these clowns are untouchable. Unbelieveable how they f u cked that match up so badly

we seem to be talking about poor refs decisions and VAR rather than the football every week
Howard Webb should be taken to task about the drop in standards

Thats why I dont bet on the football anymore as you dont know how the poor officiating will impact on the game

Nice to see our midfield getting goals yesterday, and helping our front 5 out a bit , who have scored 35 odd between them so far. For us to go the whole way they’ll have to get to 80 i reckon, we’re doing good though, sometimes midfield gets outplayed  in periods of games. We need a player in there in January to bolster things up for the big push.
