Not 4-1 bad, but disjointed,and playing a 10

what we've got.

If we don't make chances/ score goals it can
be spectacularly bad.

So many folk on twitter blaming so many different players seems a fair summation that we've had a poor evening.

Think maybe the underlying problem with the system is we don't have a 6.

Depends where you think our starting position is!

I think we are inexperienced kids and players that struggled to get on the bench
and manager trying to juggle injuries.

So being a bit off, from a lower start point
than last season.

Yeah it looked awful, and it's mostly self
inflicted, as Coventry were not very good, apart from picking up the gifts we generously scattered all around.

Hull and Coventry look like they will struggle, and we ain't much better, so work
to do not to join them.

Disorganised, Disjointed, muddled, flustered, higgledy piggledy.

Not a single player emerged with any credit last night. System isn't working so.............change the damn system. Teams are walking through our midfield because we dont seem to have anyone in midfield, at least not where they should be, shows up our central defenders for what they are, which is not very good. Powder puff in attack, who told this Pardo bloke that he was a striker? Answer - he did! Everyone else thinks he's a wide man.

There is a lot of sorting out to be done.
Report nineteen points • October 13, 2026 12:06 PM BST
Firstly, goalie is hesitant and that kills your defenders.Defenders arent playing as a unit, our clearing of the ball is a joke,10 year olds can clear the box farther. The midfield dont play together, the one man who can pass forward was dropped and our other good midfielder was right full back who never got involved.Hall is great but i wish he would look for the ball 5 yards further up than he does.Wissa a total waste in whatever that position he is in.the best bit though is the total lack of a centre forward.i felt sorry for the young lad pushed up front.Lots of decisions to be made and some arzes to be kicked.

Getting osula in up front seems like a good idea, right or centre, then the energy improves and aerial ability improves, even before his goal threat.

Joelinton again increases energy and workrate, when fit, so get him in too.

Once the front and midfield works better then the defence should improve for pressure applied before ball gets there.

Manzambi looks a very tasty player, we missed out there.

Going back to yesterdays press conference; something that Jaissle said was; you can have the best tactics in the world but if players make individual errors the tactics will be irrelevant. No excuse for Hornicek error for their penalty; Joelinton made an error late on in the game which lead to the goal; Pardo's dummy instead of smashing the ball into the net and Willocks miss rings true to what he said. As NP said this morning the bloke has only been in the job for 2 months. FWIW Jaissle has to be judged on results and apart from 2 monday night horror shows it hasn't been a bad start to the season. A clean sheet would be fantastic tomorrow for confidence and as for the starting line up Crazy he plays his cards that close to his chest I wouldn't have a clue

I was of the understanding that he was wanted as AG's replacement but it was thought we couldn't get him so Toure was brought in. (maybe i'm wrong)

Clueless

Newcastle   0   Aston Villa  1

NUFC.COM

Newcastle may have unveiled a new version of The Blaydon Races before kick-off on Saturday, but there weren't many smiling faces at St.James' Park by the full time whistle.

Matthias Jaissle lost on home soil for the first time thanks to a display from his side that bordered on the inept and was greeted by a chorus of boos at half and full time.

The only goal of the game came from Johan Manzambi, who rejected a move to Tyneside in the summer in favour of Villa and was left unattended in the United box to nod home a Joao Gomes cross on 36 minutes.

United's most dangerous moment came early in the second half from the boot of Sven Botman, but unlike Monday's effort, he failed to find a way past 'keeper Zion Suzuki.

Making one change to the side that started at Coventry, Joelinton returned to captain the side from central midfield, Jacob Murphy making way for Matias Fernandez-Pardo on the right and Yoane Wissa fielded at centre forward.

The ineffectiveness of that formation saw replacements warming up after half time; Bazoumana Toure and Will Osula both introduced barely ten minutes after the restart.

The tempo and frequency of United's attacks increased, but the quality of crossing remained uniformly poor with nothing remotely troubling Suzuki as the minutes ticked away and our efforts became desperate.

A team lacking any poise or coherence ended up with Dan Burn leading the attack once again, trying in vain to trouble a Villa side who needed to be no more than workmanlike to take all three points and could have added to their tally.

Jaissle may have spoken about his players needing to show a reaction in this game, but like his selections and tactics, the gap between aspiration and reality at present is visible. The reaction was insipid, the effort misplaced, the spark missing.

To our eyes there is a credibility issue with this coach and his players; a paying audience largely unconvinced by what they've seen and heard thus far this season.

Saw the wissa miss again, and osula running offside was a bugga, barnes is too close for a pass, and Toure was probably the ball, but
a lot going on, and plan c being best option for a pass, it's no wonder he shot and missed.

A lot depends on how good villa are... If villa are good then we have poor season

If villa are poor then we need to find somebody else with Coventry and hull or
we could well join them.

As I've said since they have hired him he will and should be judged on results; as it stands at the moment including cup games; 4 wins out of 9; not spectacular but not the worst we have had by far; worrying all the same that they only had 1 shot on target yesterday and Villa carved through them especially in the 1st half with such ease. If I interviewed any manager I'd ask what his formation would be.....4-2-3-1 and he is shown the door.

Its a pure tell the manager has not put any effort in and is copying the latest fad.

Great managers initially flex the system to suit the players not the other way around.

Hes not a popular example but when Redknapp took over at Spurs, he worked with what he had, rubbed the players bellys, played to suit them. This bought him time which he then used over a number of transfer windows to move things forward.
Report Tiger Tiger • October 18, 2026 12:58 PM BST
A woeful performance at best.

Thiaw and Botman need replaced.

Gonzalez needs to offer more going forward, though perhaps its not his fault, we need three in midfield.

Its not the current players fault that, Trippier, Bruno, Tonali and Gordon were not replaced like for like, quality for quality.

Only two of yesterdays starters were brought in by this manager.

We need to accept that this squad is not as good as last seasons squad.

The manager needs to accept that the formations needs to change as most of us agree, certainly me and Trackman have been saying this for a while.

Or are we being too impatient? Amorim is doing quite well at Milan atm.
Report Trackman • October 18, 2026 1:54 PM BST
