Newcastle United defender Fabian Schär has signed a new one-year deal with the club until the end of the 2026/27 season.

Fabian's contract was set to expire at the end of June but the 86-time Swiss international will now enter his ninth season at St. James' Park as preparations continue for the upcoming campaign.

The centre-back is the second-longest serving player in the current squad, having arrived from Spanish side Deportivo La Coruña in July 2018.

Fabian has 251 Magpies appearances to his name in all competitions and has played a key role in the success of recent seasons, helping the team twice secure UEFA Champions League qualification as well as lifting the Carabao Cup last year.

The 34-year-old has also established himself as a threat at the opposite end of the pitch, finding the net on an impressive 22 occasions.

On extending his stay with the club, Fabian said: "I'm really pleased to be staying at the club. I feel like I've achieved a lot in my eight years here but I believe there is still much more to come.

"I'm proud to call Newcastle home. Everybody knows how happy I am, both in this city and with this club, so I'm very glad to be continuing that for another year.

"Last season didn't end the way I wanted in terms of my injury, but my full focus now is on getting back to fitness and helping the team achieve our goals next season."

Head Coach Eddie Howe added: "Fabian has been outstanding since I arrived at the football club so I'm really pleased to see that he'll be staying with us.

"He's a really highly valued member of our squad, not only for his ability on the pitch but also for the leadership and experience he brings to the group.

"Fabian's form was really strong until injury ended his season. His creative distribution, defensive mentality and huge experience was a big miss towards the end of the last campaign. He has worked tirelessly to regain his fitness and we look forward to seeing him back in action next season."

Sporting Director Ross Wilson commented: "I'm delighted that Fabian has committed himself to the club and will continue his Newcastle United journey for another year.

"It's clear how highly regarded he is by everybody at the club. He's made a really positive impact during his eight years here and we believe he still has a key role to play both on and off the pitch.

"We had some complex discussion but all involved were keen to reach a conclusion on Fabian's future quickly following the season's end, so I'm pleased to have that clarity this early into the summer. We look forward to seeing Fabi back in the squad during pre-season."

I would have thought a bid in the region of 60m should the club wish to sell.
Report brentford June 4, 2026 8:05 PM BST
sounds about fair Trackman, I can see Utd of Manchester going above that which worries me..if you get 65-70m you are definitely winning imo..though age (sell on value) allied to quality is a tough replace I guess..
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- June 4, 2026 8:15 PM BST
We paid 28 + loan fee for him, you'd want 70,unless he has a release clause.

Don't have to sell, but he's obviously happy to move on.

So don't let contract tick down.

Probably far better than a full back.

Was doing well, great season but couple of poor games at wrong time
cost him England plaice.

Not necessarily his fault he had poor games, but getting left 1 on 1 too
often when you are tired is tough.
Report brentford June 4, 2026 8:20 PM BST
yep, was surprised he missed out on England tbh..would pay 55 + add ons to 60 personally..but would struggle with 70m though totally get from your point of view that's the sellable point...and with Gordon sold I guess you can sit if he's a half decent type..
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- June 4, 2026 8:24 PM BST
Quite possible he would be an excellent midfielder

But Newcastle wouldn't have much height if they
played him their,... Sort of old fashioned to have
little guy at full back, but still a thing.

He carries ball well and might be best dribbler at the club.
Report brentford June 4, 2026 8:28 PM BST
with Gordon gone is it fair to say, you don't need to sell beyond that (taking player power out of things) ..thinking Guimares and Tonali as well..
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- June 4, 2026 8:31 PM BST
If they want to go, it's best to sell them to grow the club.

Only way to reach promised land, of course best to sell
on our terms for timing and price.

Spence is faster and bigger / stronger than hall.

Probably why Tuchel picked him.

He's an intelligent player, (when not getting sent off) and

The full story; does this mean we should build 100;000 stadium Shocked

Supporters are being contacted to let them know their positions in the list.

Fans have given an incredible response to the Season Ticket Waiting List, with almost 50,000 signups since its launch earlier this summer.

An unprecedented demand for tickets has seen fans from across the world pledge their support by signing up to the waiting list; an initiative driven by the collaborative work of the Fan Advisory Board and club officials.

Ensuring tickets remain available for the upcoming season, 250 lucky fans will receive notification this week that they have been successful in their application. Meanwhile, others who have logged their interest, and continue to be a Mags Member, will enter a tiered list to gain access to future season tickets.

Commenting on the historic demand, Chief Operating Officer Brad Miller, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the sheer volume of fans logging their interest to gain access to tickets.

“Not only does this show the incredible levels of support we are fortunate to have, but it highlights the immense size and potential of this football club. This demand shows exactly why we needed a structured waiting list to give supporters transparency and fair access to tickets.

"We must also extend our appreciation to our Fan Advisory Board for helping to drive this important piece of work.”

Chairman of the Fan Advisory Board, Michael McCarthy, added: “The support and demand to purchase season tickets is extraordinary and the number of signups reiterate this. The reaction that we have had from supporter groups and individuals has been brilliant and it’s great that we are now rolling out the Season Ticket Waiting List.

“Congratulations to those who have been successful in securing their tickets for next season and we will continue to listen to fans on ideas for the Season Ticket Waiting List and overall ticketing.”

Mags Members can still join the Season Ticket Waiting List by going to book.newcastleunited.com from Wednesday 10th June.

just for you trackers
Newcastle United has completed the signing of highly-sought after goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen from Stade de Reims on a long-term contract.

The much coveted 20-year-old made 34 Ligue 2 appearances last season, keeping 15 clean sheets, and has represented France at Under-21 level.

Jaouen joined Reims in the summer of 2023 after beginning his professional career with Guingamp. He spent the second half of the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Rodez, before moving to USL Dunkerque for the 2024/25 season where he was part of the squad that reached the semi-finals of the Coupe de France, losing to eventual
winners Paris Saint-Germain.

On his signing, Jaouen said: “I’m really excited to become a Newcastle United player.

“When I visited the training ground, I could see how passionate everyone is about the club and the work they do, and I loved the environment straight away. I also had the chance to see the stadium and it’s huge.

“I’ve heard so much about the supporters and how they are the best in the country. The passion of the entire city and the atmosphere at St James’ Park are famous throughout football, and I can’t wait to experience that for myself and become a true Geordie.

“As a goalkeeper, I enjoy one on one situations and playing as a modern keeper, building from the back and being comfortable with the ball at my feet. Now I want to develop alongside the amazing players and staff here, enjoy my football, and prove my value on the pitch.”

BTW regardless of them winning, Livramento should never have been allowed to play at the U21 last summer. The min a full senior cap is given any underage games should be ruled out.

Some of these players need to learn what side their bread is buttered. You think Fergie would have allowed a senior first teamer to play in some tin pot U21 tournament rather than rest the season before a CL campaign.

Fabrizio Romano ‘Fraud’

Shocked

Fabrizio Romano is being called out for making tweets for payments by agents and clubs in order to unsettle players, and by betting companies to push forward more gambling.

Late last night Luke Edwards a journalist for the Telegraph that covers Newcastle United called him out on his ‘work’ on Twitter/X.

https://x.com/lukeedwardstele/status/2069178105114005709?s=46

Edwards doubled down and claimed that Romano has no relationship with Newcastle United because unlike other clubs, they refuse to pay him to cover them. As a result it has been claimed by supporters that when he does cover Newcastle United, he typically does so in a negative manner. Fans of other clubs also have similar complaints about him.

Another journalist has also called him out for his practices, even going as far as making his article free to read so that people can be freely aware of his practices.

https://sportingintelligence832.substack.com/p/here-we-go-the-lowdown-on-football

In this article, not only are his links to his practices called out, but it even goes as far a unveiling that Romano was the person responsible for spreading fake news of Christian Atsu being found alive following an earthquake in Turkey. This resulted in Atsu’s family travelling to local hospitals in order to try and reach him. In reality Atsu had not been found at all, nor was he confirmed to be alive. Atsu was later found to have denied and been buried beneath the rubble of his clubs training ground.
