Very disapointed with last nights performance from some.I will start at the back, defence looked strangers who had just met and spoke 4 different languages.Midfield, none of them can see a forward pass apart from Nico and thats a long diagonal to the wing.Forwards, well in name only,no one in the middle to win headers for the wingers if they got a cross in.Wingers came in too narrow and full backs didnt overlap.Wissa ran about in the defensive midfield area having a competition with Nico on who could give the stupidist free kick away in the most dangerous area.Subs came on andhad to chase long aimless balls that even a collie dog would get sick of chasing. You might think i am having a go at the manager.I am not,its these brainless players who lack the talent and courage to attack in a meaningfull way. Most of the starting 11 have been here a whils now and same old failings came out again. We were crying out for Stuer to come on and make some penetrive forward passes.

All in all a good nights work though and a clean sheet is good.
Report Trackman September 9, 2026 9:52 AM BST
Agree the performance wasn't the best however the result was achieved.
It's only four games in and players are adjusting to a new system.Do we have the correct players to play the system would be my question.Never thought I would say this but we need Will Osula back asap.

As an article in the Mag said "Millwall only gave Newcastle United fans a meagre 2,072 tickets for Tuesday night and they have sold out. This is the basic minimum 10% of capacity allocation that Carabao Cup rules dictate for away fans.

So we are going to have one of those ridiculous situations where there will be a half empty stadium and thousands more Newcastle United fans, especially those living in and around London, would have loved to have gone but Millwall preferring to have empty seats rather than away fans paying for them."

Because of the points system, only the very longstanding season ticket holders could have got a ticket. Madness.

Do you think they were better options than buying wissa?

I think wissa was best buy at the time, and he had a poor season because of injury and silly beggars wanting to engineer transfers.

He's playing a bit deeper now too, and needs
players around him to get beyond him from wide positions and midfield.

Pardo and osula alongside him should be explored before spending another 70m to buy
a striker.

We wanted that guy from Portugal but he didn't want to come, then got injured.

There's not many oven ready centre forwards around these days and with increased physicality in Premier league I think fewer
fancy being battered 38 times a season and
burning out.

The scouts will be out looking as wissa is already 30.

Joelinton is great at winning balls in the air

If you want to punt it in the air, play him as a 10 with wissa running off him

Or play it to feet, or over the top for speed merchants to chase.

If balls in from wide were a bit better then wissa would shine.

We've not really had a striker jumping for the ball for some time, isak got on end of a few but he made almost zero effort winning
50/50s.

As I say Joelinton is best at it. Woltemade was fouled repeatedly and got nowt so you can't stick with that.

Mitrovic, and Shola were good at it, and big dunc, who did some great work for Shearer.

Good headers of ball who score goals... Ronaldo7 and Haaland, but even Haaland doesnt get a lot of long punts onto his heed. Kane maybe but he's not so hot at 50/50s

Four of Newcastle United's Premier League fixtures have been rescheduled after being selected for live television coverage across the festive period.

Newcastle's visit of Manchester City will remain on Boxing Day but the league clash at St. James' Park will take place at 8pm (GMT).

The Magpies' final game of 2026, at home to Nottingham Forest on Wednesday 30 December, will now kick-off at 7:30pm (GMT).

United kick off the new year with a trip to the capital to face Chelsea and the game has been pushed back to Sunday 3 January, with kick-off taking place at 2pm (GMT).

And Newcastle's match against Manchester United at Old Trafford, which was set for Wednesday 6 January, will now take place a day later, with kick-off set at 8pm (GMT).

All four matches will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

Over the Christmas and New Year period, clubs have at least a 60-hour break between fixtures. This is in keeping with commitments made to clubs to address the congested festive schedule - in the context of an expanding European and international fixture calendar.

Broadcast selections for match rounds in November are due to be announced by the week commencing 21 September 2026 and match rounds in December will be announced by the week commencing 19 October 2026.

“One of the main reasons I play is to make my family proud, and I know how much it means to them to watch me playing for Newcastle United.

Matias Fernandez-Pardo makes his first Newcastle United start as the Magpies take on Leeds United at Elland Road in the Premier League (kick-off 8pm BST).

The summer signing from Lille has made two substitute appearances so far and comes into the first XI as one of three changes from last week's Carabao Cup win at Millwall.

Malick Thiaw and Lewis Miley also return, with Fabian Schär, Jacob Ramsey and Joe Willock dropping to the bench. Anthony Elanga misses out altogether with an injury.

Thiaw captains the side while there's a possibility of Mason Miley joining his older brother on the pitch for the first time in the top fight. Mason, 17, is on the bench after impressing in pre-season.

Lewis Hall agreed a new long-term contract with the Magpies last week while Harvey Barnes netted twice - including a stoppage time winner - in last season's 4-3 victory against Leeds at St. James' Park.

Newcastle United: Lukáš Horníček, Lewis Hall, Sven Botman, Nico González, Yoane Wissa, Harvey Barnes, Malick Thiaw (c), Matias Fernandez-Pardo, Jacob Murphy, Amar Dedić, Lewis Miley

I fear that new manager is absolutely clueless and basically a company man.

Away at Leeds and he plays 2 pretty lightweight technical midfielders. He then makes it worse by bringing on 18 year old Steur when Gonzalez goes off injured.

His 2 starting wingers are the 2 slowest players on the pitch ffs.

That team seriously lacks physicality in the middle/forward thirds. Nobody to stick a boot in an physically impose themselves.

Selecting Murphy on the wing is a sacking offence on its own.
