Tin hat on time.

I'm not picking on him due to today's performance as there were very few who made an impression.

But lets have it right Nick Woltemade is nowhere near good enough.

I know his goals at the very beginning of last season helped secure the points to the final tally that kept us up but i'm sorry he needs to be moved on.

He offers nothing to my good eye

There will be a significant loss no doubt from what we paid but I say take  what you can and shift him.

Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- August 12, 2026 8:00 PM BST
Don't want strong tackling in a friendly
but we didn't really create enough once they scored.

Goals win games, and so many errors leading to their first goal.

Never a pelanty but again a series of errors in lead up.

3rd is goal you expect to cencede in a friendly, without strong
tackling.

Never really had best team on pitch yet..

Not much point selling Woltemade for a loss as it is awful for psr. Could loan him out, swap deal perhaps... Who nose.

Lewis Miley returns to action as Newcastle United take on Bayer Leverkusen in the first match of the VisitMalta Weekender at St. James' Park (kick-off 3pm BST).

The 20-year-old makes his comeback after missing the remaining three matches of last season with a fractured fibula - and starts alongside his younger brother, Mason, for the first time at senior level.

Remarkably, Miley had previously played with his older sibling, Jamie, in a handful of friendly matches. And it's fitting that he features against the side he scored his first Champions League goal against last term; at 19 years and 223 days, he became United's youngest scorer in the competition when he netted at the BayArena last December.

In Matthias Jaissle's first home game as head coach, Germany international Malick Thiaw captains United for the second time this summer while his compatriot Nick Woltemade also lines up against the Bundesliga outfit.

Lukáš Horníček starts in goal with Mason Miley, Lewis Hall, Sven Botman and Thiaw in defence. Yoane Wissa partners Woltemade, with Miley in midfield alongside Sean Steur. Harvey Barnes and Anthony Elanga are the wide men.

On the bench are Aidan Harris, Dylan Charlton, Miodrag Pivaš, Trevan Sanusi, Henry Johnson, Rory Finneran and Sean Neave.

Newcastle United: Lukáš Horníček, Lewis Hall, Sven Botman, Yoane Wissa, Harvey Barnes, Malick Thiaw (c), Sean Steur, Anthony Elanga, Nick Woltemade, Lewis Miley, Mason Miley

Substitutes: Aidan Harris, Dylan Charlton, Miodrag Pivaš, Trevan Sanusi, Henry Johnson, Rory Finneran, Sean Neave

Newcastle United can confirm that defender Dan Burn has been appointed club captain ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

The England international, a lifelong supporter and former season ticket holder at St. James’ Park, will wear the armband in Sunday’s VisitMalta Weekender friendly against French side RC Strasbourg.

Dan led the side out on five occasions last season, having been a key part of the first-team leadership group.

The vastly experienced 34-year-old is the club’s fourth-highest appearance maker within the current squad and has 11 England caps to his name, including three at this summer’s FIFA World Cup.

Dan said: “It’s an absolute honour to be named captain of Newcastle United. It’s always an immense privilege to represent this football club, especially when I have been trusted with the armband on previous occasions, but to lead the team on a permanent basis is going to be really special.

“It’s been an incredible journey since I joined the club four-and-a-half years ago – we’ve achieved some amazing things together and enjoyed some unforgettable moments. I believe there’s still more to come and I’m relishing the responsibility of pushing everybody every single day to make sure that is the case.”

Newcastle United head coach, Matthias Jaissle, added: “Dan is a natural leader and a perfect fit for the role of Newcastle United captain. He puts the interests of the team ahead of his own every time he steps onto the pitch and always gives maximum commitment in everything he does.

“Off the pitch, he leads by example in how he conducts himself. Not many people understand what this club means to the city better than Dan and that experience will be vital in helping guide our younger players through this period of change and adaptation.”

Newcastle United's final pre-season friendly of the summer sees them take on Strasbourg at St. James' Park (kick-off 4pm BST) - and Matthias Jaissle has named an entirely different XI to Saturday's narrow defeat to Bayer Leverkusen.

The Magpies lost 2-1 here less than 24 hours ago but Jaissle has split his squad, meaning St. James' bows for new signings Ewen Jaouen, Aladji Bamba and Bazoumana Touré.

Fabian Schär returns after he was injured against Bristol City last month while Dan Burn captains the team. He was confirmed as skipper for the season on Saturday.

With Jaouen in goal, youngsters Leo Shahar and Dylan Charlton occupy the full-back berths and Burn partners Schär in central defence.

Bamba, Joe Willock and Jacob Ramsey are in midfield with Jacob Murphy and Touré on the flanks. William Osula leads the line.

Rory Finneran - who played the whole of the second half against Leverkusen - is on the bench along with Miodrag Pivaš, Trevan Sanusi, Henry Johnson, Rory Finneran and Sean Neave. Mark Gillespie is the substitute goalkeeper.

Newcastle United: Ewen Jaouen, Fabian Schär, Aladji Bamba, William Osula, Bazoumana Touré, Jacob Murphy, Joe Willock, Dan Burn (c), Dylan Charlton, Jacob Ramsey, Leo Shahar

Substitutes: Mark Gillespie, Miodrag Pivaš, Trevan Sanusi, Henry Johnson, Rory Finneran, Sean Neave

I'm fairly sure that if Dedic signs tomorrow then he will start at right back until Tino is fit.
