Why say they have agreements in place then? Building fans up/taking mick, about ambition. Using these deals? to gloss over the clear negative feeling in the camp with everybody wanting to jump,to try and fool fans into thinking we are in the mix for top players is wrong and deceitful.

Joe Willock, William Osula and Sean Neave were on target as Newcastle United's 2026/27 pre-season campaign got off to a winning start against North East neighbours Darlington.
The National League North side - managed by former Magpie Steve Watson - made the short journey to The KNOX on Saturday for the behind-closed-doors clash at the end of United's first week back in training ahead of the upcoming season.
Howe fielded completely different XIs in each half, handing a debut to summer signing Sean Steur in the opening 45 minutes before fellow new boy Ewen Jaouen kept goal in the second period for a team largely made up of under-21 players.
Newcastle dominated the ball but it took until the 29th minute for them to find a breakthrough against a well-organised Darlington side who had won each of their two pre-season friendlies so far, when Jacob Murphy crossed from the right and Willock turned home from close range.
Six minutes later, Osula made it 2-0 as he converted confidently from the penalty spot after Willock went down under a challenge from Ben Hedley.
The interval saw both managers ring the changes, with teenagers Neave and Trevan Sanusi the only Newcastle players boasting competitive first-team experience for the Magpies.
And 19-year-old Neave - who made both his Champions League and Premier League bow last term - opened his account for the new season with a low shot following a strong run midway through the second half. New goalkeeper Jaouen was rarely tested as he kept a clean sheet in his first appearance following his move from Reims last month.
The Magpies' first public pre-season friendly of this summer comes against Gateshead next Saturday (kick-off 12:30 BST). Ticket details are here while the game will also be streamed live on newcastleunited.com.

Newcastle United have completed the signing of Guinea-Bissau forward Afner Cá.
The 19-year-old joins the club’s Academy following the expiry of his contract with La Liga side Levante.
Cá, who moved to Spain from Portuguese club Amora FC in the summer of 2025, made 27 appearances in all competitions for Levante U19s last season, scoring four goals.
He previously made his senior debut for Amora in the Campeonato de Portugal during the 2024/25 campaign, having impressed the previous year with 13 goals across 31 appearances at youth level.
On his signing, Afner said: “The project here, the lifestyle, and the club’s ambition made this the right move for me.
“I’m a forward who likes to find space, link play and work hard for the team. Scoring goals is a big part of my game, but my focus is always on contributing to the group, whatever helps the team win.
Ross Wilson, Newcastle United Sporting Director, said: “We’re pleased to see Afner join our Academy. He’s an exciting profile who has shown real growth over the last couple of seasons, having developed well during this time in both Portugal and Spain.
“We’re committed to adding talented young players who can grow with us. We’re excited to work with him in our development programme.”

Alongside this, we have completed detailed technical and design evaluations, examining potential options for every facet of our crest to establish what has endured and what requires refinement.
What you told us
Responses throughout have been clear: simplify and protect what already exists. Do not reinvent and do not start again. Craft an elegant, flexible, modern visual identity, but only if the club's core heritage is protected.
When asked, four out of five supporters have acknowledged the practical limitations the current crest presents even while appreciating how deeply it is loved.
84% of respondents confirmed they favour updating the existing crest to honour our heritage, rather than pursuing a wholesale overhaul.
Building on our strengths
Our crest was derived from Newcastle's historic coat of arms, making it one of the most authentically rooted badges in football. Accordingly, responses were equally definitive about what must be preserved.
The castle was overwhelmingly identified as the most essential element of our crest. After all, it’s in our name and has been a symbol of our city for centuries.
The shield, rendered in black and white, remains immediately recognisable.
The seahorses – enduring symbols of our immeasurable maritime contribution to the world – should remain.
And as we shape up, no generic circular badge. No change for change's sake. Retain the ribbon. Honour our history.
Collective feedback tells us that these are not just design components. They are symbols of our collective identity that have endured across generations. Every decision in this process has been guided by that mandate, and that is why we are determined to protect them.
What happens next
This is your club, and your voice will continue to shape what comes next.
In August, we will hold workshops with key fan groups to hear where we are, what you’ve told us, and what happens next. We will also host sessions, in person and online.

As a player, he brought world-class talent, ambition and belief to St. James’ Park, helping to transform perceptions of what Newcastle United could be.
As a manager, he ignited our city. Kevin gave supporters hope and pride, and led a team whose style, spirit and passion captured the imagination of football fans around the world. He was so much more than an Entertainer.
Above all that, Kevin forged an extraordinary bond with Newcastle, built on the roots of his father, Joe. He understood our people. He embraced the North East with a passion that was genuine and unwavering, and in return, he earned his rightful place in the hearts of millions.
