The backline (only 2 games tbf) have been absolutely superb. Gonzalez was superb today. Him and Miley is a proper midfield with huge upside once settled in.

Four points better off than most of us thought after the first two games. Once again the speed of our attacks was awesome and we just about deserved the win.
Keeper made some good saves but still flapped at some crosses, needs to improve, the back four kept a clean sheet mainly due to excellent blocks by Hall who made 17 interceptions which was more than the rest of the team put together, the defence lost too many tackles, has to improve against better sides, Hall was man of the match for me, but lets not forget that this was a pretty ineffective Spurs attack yet they still managed 17 shots. Only two shots on target and two goals for us, 100% strike rate but despite our attacks their keeper didnt have another save to make in the 90 minutes but who cares.
Sod Tonali, Elanaga made a monkey out of him. Gonzalez, our quaterback? Cracking introduction. Tino will struggle to get his place back if the form of Dedic continues. Despite my appeal for quiet fortitude, it's impossible to overstate how much we needed all this. The media banging on about losing our best players shows how little attention they were paying. Howe had lost the plot and two of the three big names were a liability, and the other was too slow. We were going down for sure doing 433 regardless of who we played and losing 17 games with these mercenaries wasting space. 27 points lost from winning positions and a third of them down to a goalkeeper he wouldn't drop. Playing Burn at fullback with Hall on the bench at Fulham the final straw. No sane person does that! Hall would have been gone or on strike by now. Proper team now and a man with ideas in charge. But avoiding hype is never a bad idea.

Absolutely spot on. Howe is a decent coach but when you evaluate his full work at Newcastle, it was very poor at the end. For all the nonsense talk of FFP, he was fully backed. As some else said, he took over with Schar, Willock, Murphy & Joelinton. He bought Bruno, Tonali, Isak & Gordon and by the time he resigned all the old players remained and the new ones had gone. Absolutely ridiculous situation and poor squad management.

Paul Mitchell was hammered at the time for saying recruitment was not fit for purpose and Eddie got all sensitive and he had to go.

This summer they have broadened the depth of the squad which should have been the first step Howe took. They may only finish top 8 this season but they have a far better platform now to build towards top 4 etc..

BTW Wissa stating that the new manager was the best signing is a total giveaway that Howe had lost the dressing room.

Newcastle United are delighted to announce the signing of Matias Fernandez-Pardo from LOSC Lille for an undisclosed fee.
The 21-year-old Belgium international forward joins on a long-term contract and becomes the club's eighth first team arrival of a transformative summer transfer window. He will wear the number 20 shirt.
Matias arrives with a growing reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting young talents. Comfortable operating in central or wide areas, he has established himself as a direct, high-intensity forward, and his form for Lille last season played a key role in helping the French club secure UEFA Champions League qualification.
Matias said: “I’m really, really happy to be here and very proud to be at such a big club.
“I spoke to the head coach and he really showed how much he wanted me to be here. In terms of my own career progression, it made complete sense to come so I didn't hesitate at all.
“I know the club, I know about the stadium, I know it's a fantastic atmosphere. I've followed the team. What I've seen is a team that's very ambitious, wants to attack, get forward, really chase teams and go after them, and that's really something I want to take part in as well.
“I'm still young, I'm still hungry, and that's why I'm here, and I want to make that progress with Newcastle. I can't wait to start the wonderful adventure here."

Newcastle United head coach, Matthias Jaissle, said: “I am very happy to welcome Matias to our club. We were all delighted when we knew we could complete this deal.
“Matias is a highly technical player with explosiveness in his game. He can score and assist, he has courage, and he has the ability to take players on. We’re sure our supporters will enjoy watching him play.

Newcastle United forward Nick Woltemade has completed a season-long loan move to Serie A side Juventus.
The German international has featured 53 times in all competitions, scoring 11 goals, since joining the Magpies from VfB Stuttgart last summer.
Nick appeared as a second-half substitute during Saturday’s 2-0 Premier League victory away to Tottenham Hotspur.
The 24-year-old will now link up with Luciano Spalletti’s Juventus, who sit fourth in the Italian top-flight after winning both of their opening fixtures.
