Stop blaming the ref ffs, he gave US everything in the first half! It was a stupid challenge by Hall who otherwise had a tremendous game, give the ref a decision to make and thats what happens, it was a foul and Hall knew it more than anyone.

Lets get it right, this was a point that we werent expecting, a welcome point at that, we played to hit them on the break and hit them quick and it worked, very well done to the manager for those tactics.

But also lets get thing right - this was not a great performance by us, less than 40% possession, they had more shots at goal and were better all round, apart from sticking the ball in the net, we had to make 39 clearances, they had 27 shots but only 7 on target, thankfully.

Our keeper was dodgy! yes dodgy, he flapped at one or two, was beaten by a grass cutter from 23 yards.
Thiaw and Botman could have been caught out several times, sloppy challenges but they got away with it, this time.
Steur was terrible, yes he was, he gave the ball away four times in his own half that on another day could of cost us dearly, the potential is there but right now thats what it is, potential.

A huge plus was the performance of Dedic, Wissa man of the match by a street mile, Osula was on the ball for the quick break aways, Elanga showed glimpses of why we signed him, Miley was excellent in midfield but he needs a more experienced man alongside him, lets hope we got someone in soon.

Just paid £28.60 (£22 + £6.60 fee) on live football tickets for a ticket for tomorrows match, a cracking seat in the Leazes End.
Prior to this I rang SJP, would not sell me a ticket unless I also paid an extra £39 for a club membership, quite blunt that any tickets left would not be sold to the General Public.  Club is being run by people who are taking the eyes out of the fans rather than getting off their backsides and increasing commercial revenue. The tight buggers have even done away with concessions for Whitely Park under 21 games.

Newcastle United are bringing in Brentford’s Dr Naheem S Ali to take a senior position within their medical team.

Dr Ali is expected to succeed Dr Paul Catterson, who has been Newcastle’s club doctor since 2009 but is moving to the Premier League to become their chief medical officer (CMO), and the former is currently on gardening leave at the west London club.

Bazoumana Touré makes his competitive Newcastle United debut as the Magpies take on West Bromwich Albion in the Carabao Cup second round at St. James' Park (kick-off 7.45pm BST

The summer signing from Hoffenheim is one of six introductions to the starting XI following the weekend's Premier League opener against Liverpool - and one of two debutants, with Ewen Jaouen handed a bow in goal.

Both 20, the pair impressed in pre-season and now get the opportunity to shine in the cup clash against the Baggies, who have started with three wins out of three this term.

The other changes see former Baggies loanee Jacob Murphy, Nick Woltemade, Jacob Ramsey and Joe Willock - who scored after coming off the bench at the weekend - come into the side.

William Osula is injured while Yoane Wissa, ex-West Brom winger Harvey Barnes, Anthony Elanga, Lewis Miley and Lucáš Horncíček are rotated.

Jaouen will play behind an unaltered defence comprising of Amar Dedić, Sven Botman, stand-in skipper Malick Thiaw and Lewis Hall.

Ramsey and Willock join Sean Steur in midfield, with Touré and Murphy supporting Woltemade in attack.

Newcastle United are delighted to announce the signing of Spanish midfielder Nico González on a long-term deal from Manchester City.

The 24-year-old, a product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy, will wear shirt number six and becomes the seventh senior addition to the squad this summer.

Nico said: “I’m really happy to be here at this amazing club. I’ve only heard top words about the club and the city, so I’m really excited to live here and to be part of this project.

“I love the black and white shirt already and I can’t wait to start wearing it on the pitch for this club.

“I’ve experienced playing at St. James’ Park twice with Manchester City and it was really tough. The atmosphere was amazing and the fans are so passionate. I can’t wait to experience that as a home player.”

Nico Gonzalez's first interview as a Newcastle United player
08:04
‘SERIOUS QUALITY AND ELITE EXPERIENCE’
Newcastle United head coach, Matthias Jaissle, added: “I’m very happy to see Nico become a Newcastle United player. He brings serious quality and elite experience in a key area of the pitch.

“Nico is a really strong ball carrier - somebody who can drive the team forward while staying composed under pressure. He also brings discipline defensively, he reads the game well and his physicality makes him well suited to the Premier League.

“Nico is a proven winner who has already played at some huge clubs in Europe’s top leagues, but he’s also still young and hungry to develop further. He is a fantastic addition to our squad.”

‘THE ONE WE WANTED’
Newcastle United sporting director, Ross Wilson, added: “We’ve worked patiently on this transfer for a number of weeks. This was the one we wanted, and we’re delighted to welcome Nico to Newcastle United this evening. He was an ambitious target but following our discussions, he was so keen to join this club.

“He fits the exact criteria we set for this position and we weren’t prepared to compromise on that. He’s 24 years old, with an abundance of elite experience across Manchester City, FC Porto and Barcelona. He’s already already shown his quality in the Premier League and we’re sure there is more to come here in a black and white shirt.

“We believe he brings a range of qualities that will complement our team, and his experience across some of Europe’s top competitions will only be of benefit to Newcastle United.”

ABOUT NICO GONZÁLEZ
Nico joined Barcelona’s youth set-up aged 11 after starting his football journey with Montañeros in his hometown, A Coruña.

He represented Barcelona B from the age of 17 and went on to make his first-team debut on the opening day of the 2021/22 La Liga season, replacing Sergio Busquets as a second-half substitute.

Nico joined Valencia on loan the following season, before making a permanent switch to Portuguese giants FC Porto in summer 2023.

Newcastle United will travel to Millwall in the third round of this season's Carabao Cup.

The tie will take place during the week commencing Monday, 7th September 2026, with the exact date and kick-off time to be confirmed.

It'll be United's first ever visit to the Lions' current stadium - now known as The Den, formerly The New Den - which opened in 1993 and their second meeting in this competition. Millwall were 2-0 winners on Tyneside in the 1977/78 season.

Newcastle - Carabao Cup winners in 2025 - beat West Bromwich Albion 3-2 on Wednesday night, while Millwall edged past Queens Park Rangers on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the first round, then won 1-0 at Cambridge in the second round.

They currently top the Championship table with two wins from two games.

Ticket information will be released in due course.

As pointer says, young keeper just not ready yet, cant blame him too much for the opening goal though as we decided on a two man wall and one of them (Ramsey) chickened out and the ball went past him, should cover his ball in brut for that.

Dedic, excellent again in possession but not so good last night defensive wise.

Woltemande, played his part in the winning goal but once again didnt justify his wages.

Stuer looked a little better last night albeit against a championship side, but there is a player in the making there in time to come.

Lewis Hall having one of those spells that players must dread, he's strong enough to come through it.

Won the Ladbrookes Gold Cup at Monmore last week:Shocked

WOLTEMADE, winner of last week’s Ladbrokes Gold Cup at Monmore, gets set for his next Category One campaign when he heads to Dunstall Park for a trial on Saturday.

Trained by the in-form Jimmy Fenwick, the Newcastle-based multiple big-race winner is to be aimed at the forthcoming Birmingham Cup at the Wolverhampton track.

Fenwick, who is also sending another of his four-bend stars, Elusivenomore, plus Zenith Pasha – third in last week’s Ladbrokes Summer Stayers at Monmore – for workouts, said: “Woltemade is booked for a 480m solo, while the other two will have a two-dog trial.

“Elusivenomore will also go for the Birmingham Cup, while Pasha’s target is the St Leger.

“I’ll see how our new dog Clonbrien Piper fares in the Select Stayers at Nottingham as I’m looking at him as another possible runner for the Leger.”

New signing Nico González has been handed his Newcastle United debut ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash away at Tottenham Hotspur (kick-off 5:30pm BST).

The Spanish midfielder, who arrived on Tyneside from Manchester City earlier this week, is one of six changes from Wednesday's 3-2 win against West Bromwich Albion in the Carabao Cup.

Goalkeeper Lukáš Horníček, who made his Premier League debut in last week's 2-2 draw against Liverpool, replaces Ewen Jaouen in-between the sticks.

Head coach Matthias Jaissle has named an unchanged backline for a third consecutive game, with Malick Thiaw and Sven Botman situated at the heart of United's defence, while Amar Dedić and Lewis Hall are set to play on the respective flanks.

González, who made his Premier League bow against Newcastle in February 2025, will line up alongside Lewis Miley in the middle of the park.

Harvey Barnes, who netted a second half brace against West Brom, as well as Joe Willock and Anthony Elanga are named in the starting 11 as they aim to provide attacking support for Yoane Wissa, who has three goal involvements in his last three league outings against Spurs.

Jaissle has a number of options to deploy from the substitutes' bench if required, including Jacob Ramsey who netted the winning goal in last season's 2-1 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Nick Woltemade, who scored in United's 2-0 win against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup last season, is also named on the bench as well as Bazoumana Touré, Jacob Muphy, Sean Steur and Aladji Bamba.

Fabian Schär and Leo Shahar, the latter targeting his Premier League debut, are defensive reinforcements.

Newcastle United: Lukáš Horníček, Lewis Hall, Sven Botman, Nico González, Yoane Wissa, Harvey Barnes, Malick Thiaw (c), Anthony Elanga, Joe Willock, Amar Dedić, Lewis Miley.

Substitutes: Ewen Jaouen, Fabian Schär, Aladji Bamba, Sean Steur, Bazoumana Touré, Jacob Murphy, Nick Woltemade, Jacob Ramsey, Leo Shahar.
