Who would take over this current club?? Gerrard is NO go for me.  No way will he line up against his former boss and mentor.  SG is very close to Rodgers.  He won't have the resources to challenge Celtic.  This is my personal opinion
Report Kriskin April 28, 2018 11:04 PM BST
Brendan Rodgers, the Celtic manager, has urged Steven Gerrard to be extremely careful about his first step into management as his former captain contemplates whether to take over at Rangers.

Rodgers offered no view on whether or not Gerrard should join him in Glasgow but pointed out that a “high percentage” of new managers never get a second chance if their first move goes wrong. Gerrard, who coaches Liverpool’s under-18 side, has been contacted by Rangers and will be their next manager if he decides to come north.
Report scandanavian_haven April 28, 2018 11:31 PM BST
His name is Steven Gerrard, if it goes t1ts up he will get a second chance, and a third.

This current Rangers manager seems a very odd character to me, in pressers he sounds and seems like a robot, displaying no personality and zero charisma, like he's reading from a script or something, scared sh1tless to say anything that could jeopardise his position, need to relax, have a laugh and get the players on side rather than worrying about losing his job, when the players are challenging you in the dressing room the writing is one the wall anyway regardless of who's in the wrong.

" Gerrard is within touching distance of the Ibrox hotseat and ready to seal a sensational move.

The Rangers board are hopeful that – if final details can be ironed out – they’ll be able to unveil Gerrard within days.

The 37-year-old, currently in charge of Liverpool’s Under-18 side, was targeted by director of football Mark Allen to replace temporary boss Graeme Murty.

Allen has been encouraged by the Gerrard discussions and is now confident a deal can soon be struck.

We understand former Scotland international Gary McAlister has agreed to be assistant boss subject to dotting the Is and crossing the Ts.

Reds youth coach Tom Culshaw would complete the back-room team.

The Anfield icon has been mulling over Rangers’ offer and last night was nearing a decision to take over."

I remember when souness took over in the eighties.
The Gers went on to dominate for the next decade or so, but make no mistake it was far from easy.
Soey knows he had to fight tooth and nail for every inch of every victory to get them to the top.
It was a fight.
A fight with certain people inside the club, a fight with other scottish clubs, a fight even with some players within his own squad.
I look at the current Rangers team and wonder who is up for it?
If Stevie G is prepared to go into ibrox and be the iron man then he has the possibility of success.
If he goes there thinking its a step toward the liverpool job then he is deluding himself and he will fail.

Alex Rae believes Steven Gerrard would be a "box office" appointment at Rangers and says the club were right to sack Graeme Murty.

The former Liverpool and England captain is expected to continue talks this week with a view to taking over at Ibrox after the club announced the departure of Murty on Tuesday morning following Sunday's 5-0 defeat to Celtic.

Rae, who won a Scottish title and a League Cup during a two-year spell at Ibrox as a player, says Gerrard would bring a "winning mentality" back to the club should he take up the role.

"He's box office. He would bring a level of standard that has been missing in recent years from Rangers that has been diluted," Rae told Sky Sports News. "The winning mentality needs to be brought back here and Steven Gerrard would do that, I'm sure.

"He needs financial backing from the board and he's obviously in a strong position in negotiations at the moment. So he will be looking for assurances if he is looking to take up the post here at Ibrox."

Rae believes Gerrard will need to be backed financially in order to compete with Celtic and to oversee a revamp of the current Rangers squad.

"There will have to be a massive clear out and that costs a lot of money but you also have to attract the right player.

"Steven Gerrard has got plenty of contacts throughout the game and he would need considerable backing, you are talking about tens of millions because the gap is considerable at the moment. Celtic will strengthen again in the summer and so it needs big backing financially from this board."

Rangers released a statement on Tuesday confirming Murty had left his role as manager and Rae backed the board's decision to make a change, with Jimmy Nicholl and Jonatan Johansson set to take charge for the remaining three games of the season.

"I felt it was the time for a change to be made. There are only three games to go and it looks as if the players are really struggling for confidence at the moment," Rae added. "They really need to get something going in the last three games to try and get that second spot.

"Ideally you would like to bring a new manager in, it would give them time to assess the players but Jimmy Nicholl and Jonatan Johansson have got the reins for the next three games.

"They will be looking for some sort of bounce, the performances of late haven't been great and the players are struggling for confidence. But you have to be brave to play here at Ibrox, with 50,000 fans demanding a performance here at the weekend against Kilmarnock."
Report Platini May 1, 2018 8:28 PM BST
the comparison with Souness is a poor one, the only similarity is a Liverpool connection.

It was easy for Souness. He was given billions to spend (in today's money) and with English clubs barred from Europe, he was free to sign the best players in England at the time.

“The rumours are true, I have had initial talks,” said Gerrard. “I have had positive talks. I’ll pick them up on Thursday and we will see if we can progress it. We will see.”

Gerrard was speaking on BT Sport, for whom he is a pundit for both of this week’s Champions League semi-finals. He is known to want assurances from Rangers regarding precisely what resource will be available to mount a challenge to Celtic. Rangers have been without a permanent manager since the removal of Pedro Caixinha last October.

Yes, I suppose Glen Hoddle's Swindon were much different from Rangers.

"Swindon Town were denied a place in the First Division after admitting 36 breaches of FA rules. In what would have been their first ever season in the top flight, they were initially demoted to the third tier before being allowed to stay in the second on appeal."

An appointment that makes no sense for SG nor Rangers.

Rangers are getting a manager who has never managed. Yet another impressive player being considered for a completely different role. (See Keane, Ince, Stam, Solskaer (cardiff), Shearer, Barnes...)

SG is taking a job where success is finishing above Celtic which is unlikely in the next few years.
Even if he did achieve it, would it be regarded by clubs down south?

I can't see Prem clubs desperate to sign Rodgers...

If Rangers finish a creditable second in the next 2 seasons, what then for SG? Championship at best but more likely League One.
