it was textbook chasing when you read back through the thread. totally different behaviour on the way down, lumping £70 on a double, when on the way up was greening for £3.45 when around the £70 mark

cant argue with that , but it was only £70 , on way up I only started banking once I got to £100 of so , if you want to get somewhere on this sort of challenge , need to risk sometimes , not once it starts to hurt though of course ...start again Bet 1 £10 Leicester @1.5

thinking about it ...I know its easy in hindsight , but on way up I took it as seriously as my normal betting/trading , but once I got a couple of losers I lost interest

@gibmark, i did you a disservice, as i mixed up one of your posts with trilby's but still i noticed how much more careful you were being on the way up with more greening. it's not that i don't recognise the behaviour in myself, when your bank takes a big hit you want it back more quickly.

yeah discipline is hard to keep a lid on ! saying that i havent had a bet since valentines day and possibly wont have one till tommorow . which is decent going for me as i like a go on the horses as well . trying to be more selective !

when the stake is high enough , you take it seriously ,....these sort of challenges are a bit of fun , light relief almost ..can I do it ? , how far can I go ?
By:
FOYLESWAR
When: 16 Feb 18 18:25
dont take this the wrong way gib but  possible  the  way to approach these challenges is  with a much higher stake  as then you would take it more seriously and be more selective !

i say this because i have started betting on over .05  goals betting at low odds but started with a stake i was less than comfortable with so as to take it more seriuosly rather than have an attitude of" oh i only started with a tenner so dont matter if i lose as its only a bit of fun " it has made me more selective tbh.

I think everyone serious point wont be the same , but if it hurts to lose , then I totally agree , you are lot more carefully .......don't get me wrong getting to £200 and losing the lot isn't nice ....I didn't fool myself saying well I only started with £10...so I only lost £10 ..I lost £200,...not clever ! ...start again with £10 ..when I get to £200 and lose a bet ill scale down stake until I get back to £200....if you follow

i haven't cracked this. i'm good at growing an initial deposit up to a point but then the stakes start to matter and i'm too cautious, so then it doesn't grow at the same rate. the answer is to obviously withdraw it and grow it again but like everyone else i like the idea of pushing on to something massive. we can but keep trying, those of us who are not pro already :)

yeah i used to do a few "challenges "unders .overs etc ,and started with low stakes and found i was doing impuse bets with little thought or study as it was low stakes and it wouldnt harm . when i started with a bigger stake a lot more thought went into it and i am  much cautious and only play when i am confident of the bet !
By:
gibmark
When: 16 Feb 18 19:02
yeah that sound sensible , but doesn't mean more thought bets do better than impulse bets
By:
gibmark
When: 16 Feb 18 19:04
I mean , impulse doesn't have to mean stick a pin the paper or toss a coin , doesn't take a min to look at stats and form and see price and make judgement call

i agree with gib on that but, regardless of how much thought went into it, it's when the bank takes a hit that we are disappointed with, usually because we think our selection was good, so it feels a bit unfair, it makes one too tempted to try to find the next winner too quickly. and that's the chase.
By:

When: 16 Feb 18 19:12
exactly , selections are almost not that important , imo its all about staking correctly

if I go on losing run , I scale down my stakes , or take a break

By:

if you bet big on winning bets and bet low on losing bets , we would all be millionaires ...but it makes sense to bet low when on losing run until you turn it around on winning run

ok, though that wasn't quite the case with your expedition up (and down) the mountain the day before yesterday Grin. unless you mean you are taking a break now

everyonesawinner i also have not cracked it yet  and its easy to get complaicent ,  ,you can get too cautious and miss out on a few when/if i get to a certain amount i hope to bank half of it and carry on with the rest till a certain level and bank again and so on ! wishfull thinking but will see how it goes .

I wouldn't dream of staking such large % of my bank in my normal day to day betting / trading
By:
gibmark
When: 16 Feb 18 19:26
I guess about 5% stake of bank is what I m comfortable with

it does not matter how or when you reach the summit, just be careful with every bet you place."we all get a gut feeling when we see one that should win."so its best to wait for that gut feeling and keep your discipline until it arrivesGrin
By:
gibmark
When: 16 Feb 18 20:44
what if you et that gut feeling every 5 min ?

gib,if you have two mountaineers its not so bad if one falls of the mountain(its bad but you are still on the mountain)so as you go up an idea is to divide your stake.
i am not telling you what to do i am just putting an idea into your head.
you are the mountaineer with the most experience ,and you have found yourself in high positions many times, but you have to agree with me,small steps gets you closer so be careful.
