Celtic only have one hope in hell of beating PSG and that is Lee Griffith's left foot.  The question is how often his left foot touches the ball, and that isn't going to be often.  As for fight Celtic always have plenty of that, hence their fine home record, but all fight does is keep you in a contest.  I remember Steve McManamin absolutely ripping a good Celtic side to shreds one night at Parkhead with his pace, skill and guile.  Can see that happening here too.

PSG should have been priced at 1.02 IMO...and Celtic at 50s

Spot on! Imagine if Celtic had been drawn in the same group as one of the English teams like Man City

It makes a mockery of the competition really, having pub teams making up the numbers in the group stages. The champions league doesn't start until after Christmas, and at that stage Celtic will be playing Cowdenbeath or the like in a Mickey Mouse Scottish Cup match.

What will the final score be?

UEFA can't win with format though. Putting in more teams from top leagues = making mockery of "Champions" League. Putting in more Champions = making mockery of Champions League, as it's the same every year these days, the teams that come through the Champions route in qualifying are the weakest sides.

I think the number of teams from Champions route is down to 4 from 5 next year, but same for league route as all English, Spanish, German, Italian teams go straight into the group stage.

I also don't think the idea of making it knockout solves anything which forever seems people's solution. Knockout would make it worse. Ties like PSG vs Celtic won't be competitive over 2 legs anyway, so you will get a load of hammerings, and there's also potential for stacked draws so you end up with latter stages getting a load of hammerings.

I don't think it would be better viewing like this, and it would draw less money as there would be less games. People view these things with nostalgia, but forget you used to get a load of hammerings under the old format of this.

round robin in the round of 32 as well

probably at least 8 teams of the 32 have next to no chance of qualifying. not sure what you can easily do to make it better though if everyone wants a guaranteed minimum number of games and the cash

if you chucked those 8 out and went to say 4 groups of 6 then quarter finals you'd risk loads of dead rubbers in some groups where there may still be 2 obviously superior sides

I really doubt that. They'd be in a relegation battle for sure imo.

Problem a team like Celtic has is their purpose each year is basically to qualify for the group stage of the Champions League in which they inevitably take a few hammerings and have no chance of qualifying out of their group in. Their domestic league is virtually pointless and they're rarely playing teams of rough equivalents to themselves. This is a problem for many of these teams too, many smaller domestic leagues are totally dominated by 1 team who then find themselves out of their depth at CL level.

They can occasionally raise their game when they play the big boys in Europe but I think they'd struggle very badly if they were suddenly awarded a place in the Premier League.

Because pot 1 is a mish-mash now since they made it winners only.

Another thing they can't win on. Before people used to moan the likes of Arsenal were always in pot 1 despite not threatening to win it once over the past 5 year cycle.

So pot 2 actually ends up deeper than pot 1 in reality when you do that.

John Hatton from Belfast jumped over a metal railing and ran on to the pitch at Celtic Park before trying to kick forward Kylian Mbappe.

A shamefaced Celtic fan yesterday wept in the dock as he admitted invading the pitch and assaulting a Paris-Saint Germain player during Celtic's 5-0 defeat in the Champions League .

Twenty-one-year-old John Hatton, from Belfast, Northern Ireland, jumped over a metal railing and ran on to the pitch at Celtic Park last night before assaulting PSG forward Kylian Mbappe by attempting to kick him.

It happened in the 40th minute after PSG's Edinson Cavani scored PSG's third goal.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court, Tesco worker Hatton also pleaded guilty to behaviour likely to incite public disorder by approaching Mbappe.

Hatton, who was wearing a Celtic tracksuit, was banned from every football ground in the UK by Sheriff Sukwinder Gill who told him: “I don't know much about football. But this was a high profile match. It was a Champions League match. It was televised across the UK.”

Hatton was granted bail and sentence was deferred on him until October 11 for background reports.

A second Celtic fan Anthony Lavelle admitted punching Hatton on the head as he was being led from the stadium by police.

Depute fiscal Louise McNeil said: “Mr Lavelle was a spectator and after seeing John Hatton invading the pitch he became upset and angry. While the police were escorting Mr Hatton from the stadium he punched him on the head. Mr Lavelle was then arrested.”

Defence lawyer Ann McKinlay said: “His last conviction was 42 years ago when he was 19.

“Mr Lavelle was far from the only person who was angry about the pitch invasion. The consequences for the club could be very serious. UEFA could make them play their matches behind closed doors.

“Mr Lavelle said that as Mr Hatton was being taken out of the ground he was laughing and he struck out and hit him on the head.

“I am told that Mr Hatton is very sorry that Mr Lavelle got into trouble because of him.”

Sheriff Gill said: “Was it a case that Mr Lavelle managed to get to him first,” and Ms McKinlay replied: “I don't know about that but he accepts he managed to get to him.”

The court was told that Lavelle, an asbestos remover, who now lives in St Albans, England, has been a Celtic supporter since he was 13 and takes his nephew who suffers from epilepsy to matches.

Sheriff Gill fined Lavelle £400 and gave him two months to pay it.

She refused a Crown motion to impose a football banning order on him.

Sheriff Gill told Lavelle: “You have been going to football matches for 48 years with no trouble and you take your nephew to matches.

“If Celtic Football Club wish to revoke your season ticket that's a matter for them, but, I would hope they would see sense.”

Celtic have been charged by UEFA following the pitch invasion on Tuesday night.

The latest charge against Celtic comes after the club were fined £20,000 for illicit banners and blocking a stairway during their qualifying win against Linfield.

It's not the first time a fan has entered the field of play during a European match at Parkhead. AC Milan keeper Dida was slapped by a supporter in the 2-1 victory over the Italian giants in 2007.
